“What nonsense are you spouting?”

Lilith hurriedly pushed the Dragon Eater away. In that fleeting moment, she had actually entertained the idea that the Dragon Eater could be trusted. But how could that be possible?

Based on Lilith’s knowledge from her previous life, anyone trapped within the main character’s body, constantly whispering in their ear that they were a good person, claiming to be one with them, and insisting they must be trusted, was undoubtedly a villain!

Yes, the ultimate kind—the one who coveted the main character’s body!

“Oh my, looks like it’s still not working. I thought you’d start to trust me a little more,” the Dragon Eater said, pouting in disappointment.

“Trust you? Dream on,” Lilith snorted.

“You’ll believe me someday and that day will come soon,” the Dragon Eater said, turning around, unimpressed.

Watching her back, Lilith’s brow furrowed slightly.

Why is she so confident? Could it be that the Dragon Eater really knows some undisclosed secrets?

Lilith felt a headache coming on. Recent events felt like a vast net ensnaring her, and despite her frantic efforts, she couldn’t tell whether she was inside or outside of it—or which side held the truth.

What role did her mother, the Dragon Queen, play in all this?

Ciel claimed that she was orchestrating everything, but… Lilith recalled her mother’s tender expression—it didn’t seem to be an act. Everything in the world could be faked, except a mother’s love. It was easy to tell when someone was pretending.

Having never experienced a mother’s love in her previous life, Lilith understood its profound significance even better.

“I guess I’ll go back and ask her directly.” For now, that was all she could do. Lilith prepared to leave. But at that moment, the drop of golden blood above them in this space of consciousness suddenly burst into a scorching, bright light.

“This fluctuation…”

The Old Ancestor?

Lilith was taken aback. The Old Ancestor hadn’t stirred in a long time.

But then, excitement flooded her. If her current predicament was like wandering through a dense fog, then the Dragon Ancestor was perhaps the only being she knew who could see through it. Many of her questions could finally be answered.

As the drop of golden blood pulsed, a will slowly emerged.

“Old Ancestor, I have a question—”

“Lilith!” Before she could ask her question, she was interrupted by the Old Ancestor. A massive, golden dragon head emerged from the drop of golden blood, its face twisted in an indescribable fury.

The Old Ancestor immediately roared, “Why did you use that in front of those from the Great World?!”

“Eh?” Lilith was momentarily stunned as if doused in cold water. Then, she answered honestly, “Because I wanted to save someone.”

“Save someone? Are you stupid? Who in that wretched place is worth using that for?” Rage filled the Old Ancestor’s voice.

“But I…”

“Foolish! Reckless! Do you have any idea how serious this is? Do you understand what will happen now that those from the Great World have seen it? Can you even take the responsibility?”

“It’s not that serious, right…?”

“Not that serious? Ha! You b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲! You know nothing, and yet you dare say that?”

Bas…tard? Lilith’s mind reeled as that word echoed in her head. The kind Old Ancestor… The Old Ancestor who is always a little silly… The Old Ancestor who has helped me many times… He actually called me a b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲?

Lilith stared blankly at the massive dragon head. For the first time, the voice of the Old Ancestor felt unbearably harsh… and unfamiliar.

“Damn it! Damn it all! Do you know how much trouble I went through to hide it? Because of your foolish whim to save a worthless human, my nine million years of effort have gone to waste!”

Hide? Nine million years? What the hell was he talking about?

Lilith stumbled backward, glancing around as if searching for someone—anyone—who could help her decipher the meaning behind the Old Ancestor’s words.

But this was her space of consciousness. There was no one else here. No one… except the Dragon Eater. Lilith instinctively turned toward her.

Kik…

It was the sound of teeth gnashing together. The Dragon Eater had already turned away, her beautiful face twisting with unfiltered rage as she glared at the Old Ancestor. The hatred she radiated was so profound, that it felt carved into the very marrow of her bones.

Oh, that’s right…

It was the Old Ancestor who had locked her away here.

Is he furious because I exposed the Dragon Eater too soon and disrupted his plans? And if this is part of some grand scheme… Is it the same plan that my mother—the Dragon Queen—seems to be orchestrating? If so… Will she be just as furious the next time she sees me?

“Forget it, there’s no use taking this out on you.” The Old Ancestor finally ceased his furious rant, but his tone remained sharp as he spat, “Listen carefully. Stay put and behave. If you go around stirring up trouble again, I’ll come back for you immediately.”

“Wait, I have a question—” Lilith barely had time to speak before the golden blood lost its luster. The Old Ancestor’s presence had vanished without a trace.

Lilith opened her mouth weakly. Then, in frustration, she clenched her fist and swung it into the empty space before her.

“Seriously?! All of them speak nothing but riddles!” Lilith threw punch after punch in frustration, her fists slicing through the air with sharp, whistling force. “Watch me punch these riddlers! Riddlers deserve to be punched!”

Only after venting her frustration did she regain some composure. With no reason to linger, she disappeared into thin air. Once again, an eerie silence settled over her space of consciousness.

The Dragon Eater stood like a frozen statue, her face still twisted in rage. But as time passed, the corners of her lips lifted… just slightly. Then, in an unsettling, bone-chilling manner, her expression slowly shifted from pure rage… to a smile.

“Hehe.” Her chuckle quickly escalated into an unrestrained, manic laugh. “Hahahahahahahahahaha…” The sound echoed through the space.

The Dragon Eater stared at the dull, lifeless drop of golden blood, laughing so hard that tears welled in her eyes. “Nine million years, Gerald. Nine whole million years… I’m finally about to witness that day. How could this grand performance proceed without its leading actor? Come now, the stage is set… Only you, the final actor, remain to make your entrance.”

Unfortunately, that drop of blood had already lost its power, so the Old Ancestor could no longer hear her words.

With a smirk, the Dragon Eater dissolved into the darkness.

Lilith’s consciousness returned to her body. As she opened her eyes, she found the lake’s surroundings had been completely restored—as if the fierce battle between the demigods had never taken place.

Nothing had changed, except for the addition of a massive hill at the lake’s edge. But it wasn’t a hill. It was a grave; the final resting place of the giant serpent named Greenie.

Ciel said she was her pet, unearthed from the snow by her own hands on that fateful day. She said that she had been waiting for me, too, for tens of thousands of years. But I don’t remember anything. No matter how vividly Ciel described it, my memories remain a blank slate.

Lilith had no idea what went wrong, but even if her memories were lost, she was certain of one thing—she had felt something. And feelings do not lie. So…

“Wait for me, Greenie. I’ll set everything straight. And if I have really lost my memories… I’ll find them back. And then, I’ll return to pay my respects to you.” Facing the enormous grave, Lilith whispered her promise.
