Even If I’m Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem -
Book 6: Chapter 23: Trap
Ciel’s hand suddenly felt light, but it wasn’t because she had missed the black river. The moment her golden blade touched the black river, it felt as though her blade was stuck in cotton that absorbed all its force.
Ciel couldn’t help but frown. Her golden sword, capable of cutting through space itself, was astonishingly powerless against the black river.
As the stream corroded the blade, the Artifact Spirit dwelling in it began wailing in agony again.
Ciel glanced at Three, who wore a smug expression, and gritted her teeth. Golden flames erupted around her, surging toward the black stream.
The stream, seemingly sentient, avoided the golden flames with ease. Then, with a violent burst, it transformed into countless droplets that scattered in all directions.
“What?!” Caught off guard, Ciel was too slow to react. Moreover, ordinary divine barriers were useless against the black water droplets; only the flames of her divine power could repel them slightly.
It was too late to act.
When the droplets touched Ciel, her breath hitched, and a suffocating pressure overwhelmed her. She felt as though she was drowning; her lungs were burning, desperate for air.
As a demigod, she shouldn’t need to breathe—she could even stay at the bottom of the sea without any issues.
“So… this is the full extent of Complete Authority?”Authority… was akin to a concept. Unlike any deity’s conventional attack, Authority forcibly changed one’s state instead of inflicting physical damage.
Three’s Complete Authority was “Drown.” This meant that she could make Ciel drown unconditionally, as long as those black water droplets touched her. This state transcended physical strength, cultivation realm, environment, and even… the essence of life itself.
Ciel looked at the longsword trembling in her hand, its edge now as dull as if it were blunt.
“I’m sorry… In the end… I’ve failed you too,” she apologized sadly. With a hand as feeble as a mortal’s, Ciel gently stroked the longsword. “But please, muster your strength one last time, for my sake… Combust,” she pleaded.
The longsword chimed softly. With a small smile, Ciel gathered the last of her strength and hurled the longsword.
“What are you trying to do?” Three frowned at Ciel’s strange action as her gaze followed the trajectory of the longsword closely.
After being engulfed by Authority, both Ciel and the longsword should have been incapacitated. As the longsword flew through the air, it quickly lost momentum, faltering and ultimately plummeting like a falcon with a clipped wing.
“Ha, I thought you had another trick up your sleeve, but it seems it was just a futile struggle.” Three dismissed the longsword and shifted her attention to an island in the middle of the lake where Lilith was hastily preparing to escape with Erica.
“Planning to leave? Dream on!” Three smiled sinisterly, confident that she could close the distance between them within the blink of an eye with her demigod abilities. Lilith definitely had no chance to escape.
As she prepared to leave, she cast a final precautionary glance back at Ciel. To her surprise, the woman was wearing a small smile on her face, despite her pained expression.
She’s smiling?! Why is she smiling?!
Three was puzzled.
It was during this moment of distraction that she heard a sharp, piercing sound near her feet. The plummeting golden longsword had suddenly disintegrated into hundreds of smaller swords.
Though mostly corroded by Authority, they quivered in mid-air before starting to fall toward the lake’s depths. Amidst them, one small sword in the center remained untouched by Authority, shielded by the others.
It suddenly emitted a long, resonant whistle as it burst into a blinding light.
Three realized her oversight. Though she wielded the Complete Authority, the limitations of her current body meant she could only harness a fraction of its potential, so the process of corroding the target required time.
Had it been instantaneous, the golden sword would have been destroyed at first contact with the black droplets.
Ciel had seized this opportunity to cleverly allow the untouched smaller sword to slip through, using the others as a diversion.
“DAMN IT!” Three roared in frustration as she contemplated invoking the power of Authority once more.
No, I shouldn’t do that here.
She quickly calmed herself. Had she become so dependent on the power of Authority that she considered using it against a demigod weapon she could easily handle without it?
Mobilizing it in her current cultivation realm was just too slow. but…
PFT!
A sharp pain stabbed through Three’s chest. Her realization came too late and she couldn’t adjust her stance in time.
The single smaller golden sword was exceedingly swift. Before her thoughts could catch up, the sword had already breached her divine barrier and embedded itself ruthlessly into her chest.
With a gasp, a mouthful of crimson blood spurted from her mouth. She didn’t even have time to wipe it away as she glared at Ciel, who had outsmarted her again.
“Heh, is this your last move? What were you thinking? Think you can kill me with just this? You’re too naive!”
“The… one… who’s… naive… is you,” Ciel retorted in between coughs. The suffocating agony had blurred her vision, but she still managed a sneer. “Do you really take… me for a fool?”
“What?” Three froze for a moment before finally realizing something was amiss.
A mini magic scroll, about the size of a finger, hung on the hilt of the golden sword lodged in her chest.
“This is…” Just when Three attempted to reach for the scroll, she realized she couldn’t move. “Immobilize spell?”
She knew the scroll’s effects without even having to check, but there was no satisfaction in this realization. She hadn’t expected Ciel, an esteemed demigod-level expert, to resort to such a trick.
“Hehe… Do you like it…? I made it just now…”
“You! It’s a normal magic scroll, how long do you think it will last?” Three now understood why Ciel had drawn in a substantial amount of magic power earlier.
After ascending to the demigod level, her magic power would also be converted into divine power. As a result, the fluctuations of divine power were always closely monitored in conflicts between demigods.
However, magic was different. No demigod would typically use low-level magic power in battle as it was inefficient. Hence, they seldom paid any attention to their opponent’s magic power, knowing that it couldn’t even breach their divine barriers.
Ciel exploited this oversight and set a trap specifically for her! She used her smaller golden sword, a demigod artifact, to breach her divine barrier, enabling the magic scroll to activate without any hindrance.
“Ha… it will probably only last… less than thirty seconds… But… it’s enough… to buy me time…”
