Chapter 282: Chapter 199: Fine of 2000, Detention for Ten Days
As the evening sky darkened, Jiang Ning took Qi Xingzhou downstairs and drove out of the neighborhood.
While rescuing someone this afternoon, Jiang Ning had forgotten to throw her phone away, resulting in it being soaked in seawater. Hence, after leaving the neighborhood, the first thing Jiang Ning did was to find a nearby store to buy a new phone.
As for the phone that had been soaked in seawater, she left it at the store for after-sales maintenance.
With a new phone, Jiang Ning felt a sense of security return. Knowing that Qi Xingzhou enjoyed eating seafood, she took him to a nearby seafood restaurant that was quite famous.
Jiang Ning had visited this restaurant before and knew that their seafood congee was particularly delicious, so the first thing she ordered upon sitting down was the seafood congee.
Jiang Ning ordered several dishes she liked and then passed the menu to Qi Xingzhou, indicating that he should pick a few that he wanted to eat as well.
After Qi Xingzhou finished choosing, Jiang Ning handed the menu to the server standing by.
While waiting for the dishes, Jiang Ning took out her new phone and began downloading all the apps she used to use.
When she saw the ’Mengbo’ app, Jiang Ning suddenly thought of the screenshots Qi Xingzhou had sent her that afternoon.
"Do you know this app?" Jiang Ning put her phone in front of Qi Xingzhou, the screen brightly showing the download progress of the Mengbo app.
Qi Xingzhou looked at it doubtfully and then shook his head.
His reaction was expected by Jiang Ning.
Qi Xingzhou didn’t seem like someone who surfed the internet often, and he also didn’t appear to have an addiction to phones. Jiang Ning had never seen Qi Xingzhou play with his phone during the many occasions they had been out together. The only time she had seen his phone was when they added each other on WeChat.
"This is Mengbo, a social media app. The screenshots you sent me this afternoon were taken from this app..." As Jiang Ning spoke, she kept an eye on the download progress. After Mengbo was installed, she logged in with her account, showing Qi Xingzhou how it worked while explaining it to him.
Qi Xingzhou listened quietly, his gaze intently focused on the actions of Jiang Ning’s hands, his expression serious, much like a student attentively listening in a classroom.
Seeing this, Jiang Ning’s interest grew, and she not only taught him how to use Mengbo but also explained all the other apps she had just downloaded to him.
After listening, Qi Xingzhou pulled out his own phone from his pocket: "I want to download them too."
He wasn’t actually interested in these kinds of apps, but Jiang Ning was on them, so he wanted to be as well.
"Sure," responded Jiang Ning and then leaned in to watch Qi Xingzhou operate.
Qi Xingzhou’s phone screen was brightly lit and extremely clean. His long, knobby fingers gliding over it were visually pleasing, almost like a piece of art.
Jiang Ning noticed that although Qi Xingzhou had quite a few apps on his phone, many had English labels. Occasionally, there were a few in Chinese, but regardless of whether it was the names or the app logos, they all looked exceptionally obscure.
The few apps that Jiang Ning recognized were WeChat, Call, Message, Camera, and Settings.
After Qi Xingzhou finished downloading and registering for Mengbo and Douyin, the first thing he did was to find Jiang Ning’s account and follow her.
Seeing this, Jiang Ning immediately followed back the account with no profile picture and a name that was a string of garbled characters, which looked particularly like a zombie account.
The two instantly followed each other.
Qi Xingzhou looked at his account’s follower and following counts, both now at 1, and felt quite happy.
The partially closed private room door was knocked on by the server from outside, and then the server, pushing a cart, opened the door to bring in the dishes for Jiang Ning and Qi Xingzhou.
Jiang Ning was already feeling hungry. As soon as the dishes were served, she immediately urged Qi Xingzhou to start eating, and the two enjoyed their meal immensely.
On the other side, Huo Miao was not faring as well.
As netizens had said before, donating to charity is a voluntary act of kindness, not something the state can force its citizens to do. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a crime if someone suddenly decided to renege on a donation.
However, as a public figure, Huo Miao’s repeated incidents of this nature had already caused a negative impact on society through the internet.
In the show, Jiang Ning sold the expensive rabbit and Pheasant without forcing the guests to buy. Huo Miao and the other guests voluntarily purchased Jiang Ning’s rabbit and Pheasant.
If Huo Miao truly could not afford the money, she could have honestly told the netizens and given Jiang Ning a candid explanation instead of using a Photoshopped image as proof of donation. After being exposed by the internet users, she then immediately made an anonymous donation of just a single cent and intentionally misled the public by pixelating the image.
Her series of actions had violated the professional ethics expected of a public figure.
After a thorough investigation, the police notified that Huo Miao would be detained for 10 days and fined 2000 yuan as punishment.
When Huo Miao saw the punishment notice, she was stunned.
Raised in a family of luxury from childhood, she was always proud and never imagined that she would see the day when she’d be taken into a police station!
For Huo Miao, this was utterly humiliating!
As Huo Miao looked at the notice, she immediately broke down crying, tears swiftly falling from her eyes. Pleading with the police in her fragile state, she begged, "I really know I was wrong. I’ll pay the fine; can I pay 20,000 yuan instead? Please, don’t detain me."
If she just paid the fine, she could leave after paying it off. But detention meant she would have to stay in the station for a full ten days!
"No," the officer coldly refused.
After about ten minutes of sobbing and pleading, which only returned the same icy response, Huo Miao bit her lip in frustration, stepped aside, and dialed Huo Song’s number.
The call was quickly answered, and before Huo Miao could start to cry, Huo Song’s indifferent voice came through, "What did the police say about the handling?"
Upon hearing this, Huo Miao quickly guessed that Mother Huo must have called Huo Song to inform him about her being taken away by the police.
With trepidation and a sense of guilt, she softly said, "A fine of two thousand, ten days of detention."
There was silence on the other end for a while before Huo Song, massaging his temples and sounding somewhat weary, replied, "Let it be detention then; don’t do such foolish things in the future."
Huo Miao felt a sense of relief to the sound of Huo Song’s tone, which was neither cold nor warm.
It seemed to her that Huo Song hadn’t given up on her.
As the head of the Huo Family, as long as Huo Song stood by her, Mother Huo’s dislike would be powerless.
Holding the phone displaying the end of the call, Huo Miao turned around and signed her name on the punishment notice.
Shortly after, Capital City Public Security posted the results of Huo Miao’s punishment on the social media platform, providing the netizens with an explanation.
[Not bad! They caught someone and got the results out so quickly, such high efficiency!]
[This punishment is not bad, although the fine amount is a bit low, and the ten-day detention seems light, but posting it online for all to see can be considered a public punishment, hahaha, social death is the worst!]
[Detained, Sister One Cent should probably be out of the circle from now on]
