Even After My Death
Chapter 209 - 148: Life-Saving Benefactor (Three-in-One)

Chapter 209: Chapter 148: Life-Saving Benefactor (Three-in-One)

Early autumn skies hung above, the river carrying a hint of icy chill.

Jiang Ning dragged Mu Mingxuan’s heavy body towards the shore with Qi Xingzhou on the other side, also pulling at Mu Mingxuan. He pressed his lips tight, not only taking on more than half of Jiang Ning’s burden but also shielding her from some of the water flow with his body to make her swim easier.

Both of them were agile, and in the turbulent river water, they joined forces to bring the unconscious Mu Mingxuan to the bank.

Jiang Ning had jumped in to save Mu Mingxuan because she didn’t want his corpse polluting the river. She had no sympathy or pity for someone she disliked, naturally, her actions in dragging Mu Mingxuan were far from gentle, even somewhat rough.

All she wanted was to fish the person out, dead or alive.

But Mu Mingxuan was obviously lucky; after Jiang Ning pulled him to the shore, the unconscious Mu Mingxuan, under her abrupt actions, suddenly coughed out the water that was stuck in his throat, his breathing became hurried, and, surprisingly, he wasn’t dead.

Jiang Ning climbed ashore first, then turned back to extend her hand to Qi Xingzhou.

Qi Xingzhou blinked his moist lashes, obediently reached out his hand, and, once Jiang Ning grasped it, she exerted a little force and pulled Qi Xingzhou up from the river.

Looking at the soaking-wet Qi Xingzhou, Jiang Ning couldn’t help but scold him, "Are you stupid? Didn’t I tell you to wait on the shore? If you do this, I might not dare to bring you with me next time."

Qi Xingzhou had been happy to be pulled up by Jiang Ning, but after hearing her say she wouldn’t take him out anymore, his eyes widened in panic.

He lowered his head, like an ostrich, shrinking his tall frame, and looked at Jiang Ning with a pitiful expression, still secretly holding onto her hand, both softly and earnestly pleading for himself, "Be good... go out together..."

[Hahaha, why is the cool guy so funny?]

[Cool? Where? Little kids have more presence than him.]

[High and cold in front of others, but becomes a sissy in front of Jiang Ning.]

[Yo, yo, yo, you still think about going out to play with Jiang Ning even though you don’t listen, no worries, come to my place after the variety show, I’ll take you wherever you want.]

[...Hey, the person above, the sound of your abacus beads is hitting me in the face.]

The audience joked in various ways, but the teased Qi Xingzhou wasn’t in such a good mood. His eyelids drooped, he looked at Jiang Ning with anxiety and grievance, uneasy like a child who had done something wrong. But he couldn’t bring himself to say, "I won’t do this again next time."

How could he possibly just stand by and watch while Jiang Ning was in danger?

Qi Xingzhou held onto Jiang Ning’s hand, his actions faintly stubborn.

Seeing no response from Jiang Ning, his lips were pursed, his expression sad, and his eyes began to redden slightly, as if he was about to cry.

Jiang Ning hadn’t expected the young master to be so delicate that a scare from her would make him cry, so she quickly spoke up, "Don’t cry."

She said that to scare him.

After she had jumped into the river to retrieve Mu Mingxuan, just as she hit the water, the sound of a splash from behind startled her.

She had explicitly told him to wait on the shore, but Qi Xingzhou had jumped in after her!

Jiang Ning even regretted it a bit; if Mu Mingxuan was dead, then he was dead, and if the river was contaminated, so be it. She could just give up on that river. But what if something happened to Qi Xingzhou? In her heart, ten Mu Mingxuans didn’t amount to a fraction of Qi Xingzhou.

Fortunately, not only could Qi Xingzhou swim, but he was also an excellent swimmer. He took on most of the weight of Mu Mingxuan and thoughtfully helped her resist the impact of the river water.

If it hadn’t been for him, Jiang Ning wouldn’t have been able to pull Mu Mingxuan ashore so swiftly.

Looking at Qi Xingzhou drenched from head to toe, Jiang Ning’s heart suddenly softened. She pulled Qi Xingzhou to walk back, "Thank you for jumping down without hesitation to help me. I didn’t mean to blame you. I’m worried about you, I care about you, do you understand? Let’s go, we should get back and take a shower, don’t catch a cold."

But Qi Xingzhou still stood motionless in place.

He held Jiang Ning’s hand, stubbornly seeking a response that would reassure him, "In the future, together, go out."

Seeing the serious look in Qi Xingzhou’s eyes, Jiang Ning realized her words had scared him earlier.

Although she had spoken those words, her tone was very light, with no scolding or anger.

Qi Xingzhou had risked the danger to help her; she was too touched to be angry, much less truly upset with him.

Jiang Ning turned around, the hand held by Qi Xingzhou gently swinging from side to side, her tone cheerful, "Yes, yes, yes, I’ll even take you tree-cutting tomorrow. A free little helper, if you don’t come, my loss would be huge."
