Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Meeting Talents in Extracurricular Learning

Zhang Lei didn’t actually want to be the general manager of that startup company, but he didn’t know who had reported to him for stealing disaster relief supplies.

In order to atone for his sins and repay Liu Ruidong for not firing him, he had no choice but to take up the role at the gaming news website.

Zhang Yan, however, didn’t follow to the gaming channel just to accompany Zhang Lei, but was on a mission. If they didn’t reach the sales target set by Liu Ruidong within a year, both he and his wife would have to leave the industry...

But Liu Ruidong wasn’t too heartless. He agreed to let Zhang Yan take a few assistants to help her, and the vendors she was responsible for weren’t forced to hand over, so the one-year agreement was still very feasible.

Liu Feifei had already given birth, but due to amniotic fluid embolism during childbirth, not only was her uterus removed, but she also was left with only a half-life left. It might take her about a year and a half to recover before returning to the workplace, so she also proposed resigning after a year of nursing.

Upon hearing this news, Zhou Xueyin’s feelings were mixed. Although she really didn’t like Liu Feifei, she couldn’t help but feel sympathy for her encountering such a tragic event.

On the other hand, her own team’s revenue finally didn’t have to be shared with someone who did nothing all day but to give orders, which was indeed good news worth being happy about.

It had been almost 4 months since she joined the group, and the sales not only had already met this year’s target but also had nearly doubled last year’s. Seeing this number, Zhou Xueyin truly breathed a sigh of relief. It was time to pick up her initial dream of learning Japanese.

Zhongguancun’s commercial street had just opened, and in one of the business buildings, there really was a Japanese language training institute with foreign teachers who taught one-on-one. It was currently offering a 20% discount, and Zhou Xueyin was hugely tempted after reading the introduction.

But going there to learn by herself might be a bit boring, so she asked Wei Jingzhu if he wanted to learn together.

[Xiaojing, Xiaojing, I’m planning to learn Japanese, do you want to join?]

[Ah? So sudden? Although I’d like to, I don’t have the money. You know, with just my salary...] Wei Jingzhu was genuinely strapped for cash, even though he was the person in charge of the gaming channel, his salary hadn’t increased much.

His monthly expenses for food and rent and others already left him barely making ends meet. Dreaming about learning Japanese was practically a flight of fancy.

[No worries, I’ll front you. Think of it as me pulling you along to study with me?] To be able to learn with someone who shared similar interests, Zhou Xueyin was more than willing.

However, the tuition fee was not much in terms of her own salary, so paying for both of them was quite easy.

[How can that be... Although I really want to learn, having you pay for me to learn...] Even though their relationship was quite good, it wasn’t so intimate as to disregard each other’s finances. Making him have her spend money like this was really a bit embarrassing for him.

[Then... how about I lend it to you? You can pay me back when you have the money, how about that?]

[Okay then... I’ve been planning to learn, and if I don’t sign up now while there’s a discount, the price will only go up later.] Wei Jingzhu nodded his head.

[That settles it then, after work today, come with me to register!] Zhou Xueyin really couldn’t wait to sign up and learn Japanese.

At the end of the workday, Zhou Xueyin and Wei Jingzhu met at the 9th-floor timecard station, fortunately, today went very smoothly without being delayed by various other matters.

But also going to sign up for Japanese classes were Kang Siyin and Zhao Kai.

Both of them were also ACG fans; one was to buy figurines from Japanese sites, and the other was to read original novels, so when Zhou Xueyin suggested learning Japanese, both reacted strongly and also wanted to sign up.

That day must have been the most impressive team that the Japanese training institute had hosted since it started classes. Four workers in their twenties signed up to learn for the sake of their hobbies, which really opened the eyes of the receptionist.

During the trial class, a long-haired girl interacted enthusiastically with the foreign teacher; although her pronunciation was not very standard, it was clear that she was really putting in the effort and was willing to interact with others in a foreign language.

This long-haired girl caught Zhou Xueyin’s attention; she thought that if she could recruit her into her company as a salesperson, she would probably dazzle the clients with her banter even before drinks were involved.

"Hello, I am Zhou Xueyin from 51buy. I noticed you were quite active just now, and I’d really like to get to know you." After the trial class, Zhou Xueyin took the initiative to approach the lively long-haired girl.

"What a coincidence, I’d love to get to know you too. You must have a solid foundation, right? You could even converse with the teacher, and your pronunciation is very standard!" The long-haired girl, not shy at all, quickly familiarized herself with Zhou Xueyin, "Oh, right, my name’s Yang Xiyuan, and my English name is Donna!"

"I’ve never given myself an English name, but I have a Japanese name, Kariya Rine..." Zhou Xueyin said happily.

"No wonder, you even have a Japanese name; you must really love Japanese anime! Unlike me, I just wanted to learn a different language after finishing English..." Yang Xiyuan chuckled.

"That’s impressive... Is your dream to dominate minor languages?" Zhou Xueyin joked, not knowing why but from the bottom of her heart, she very much liked this girl and would love to hire her.

"You know, you’re right! Having just a certificate of Proficiency in English is too unchallenging!" Yang Xiyuan’s remark shocked everyone, "Dominating minor languages would be so cool, right?"

A certificate of Proficiency in English? And that’s not challenging enough? Who is she to say this?

"If you weren’t employed, I’d really like to recruit you to my company. Haha~" Zhou Xueyin said, half-joking, half-serious.

Typically, people who come here to learn Japanese are either students or office workers, learning in their spare time. It’s unlikely that anyone would come here specifically to learn Japanese, as they would have enrolled in a full-time class instead.

"Eh? Could I? I’ve interviewed at several companies, and as soon as I mention wanting to learn other languages, which might affect my overtime, the response has always been rejection. If you could hire me, I would be so grateful!" Yang Xiyuan looked surprised yet delighted at Zhou Xueyin.

"I can’t promise anything else, but I can assure you that my company doesn’t require overtime for now! I’m the general manager; what I say goes. See, I even came here to study, so they can’t really say anything." Zhou Xueyin said confidently.

Indeed, not only had Zhou Xueyin come to study, but she had also dragged three other people from the group here.

Although she couldn’t dictate everything at Zhongonline, Wei Jingzhu, the channel supervisor, had some say in whether they did overtime; at least, there was some flexibility in time.

"Yinyin... Can you let me have this person? I need a presentable editor..." Wei Jingzhu, who had been left out for a while, pleaded with her.

"Huh? Aren’t you guys from the same company?" Yang Xiyuan looked puzzled at the two.

"We’re from the same group... his name is Wei Jingzhu, he’s the supervisor of the gaming channel. They just restructured and are short on staff. But overtime shouldn’t be a big problem, just as long as the work is done during working hours," Zhou Xueyin explained for Wei Jingzhu.
