Chapter 135: Episode 135: The Blind Date Guy Became a Client

The next day, Kang Siyin woke up without an alarm and scrambled with her brother to use the bathroom.

"I’m going to have dim sum with mom in a bit, let me use it first!" Kang Siyin squeezed past her brother.

"I have a date with a potential girlfriend and I’m going to be late, let me go first!" her brother retorted without backing down.

"A potential girlfriend? Aren’t you moving a bit too fast?" Just as Kang Siyin was taken aback, her brother sidestepped into the bathroom.

"Just kidding, I’m going to the movies with my buddies! I’m not as fickle as you think, changing girlfriends as if I’m changing clothes!" her brother boasted from inside the bathroom.

"Go to hell..." Kang Siyin kicked the bathroom door and went back to her room to look for a comb to tidy her hair.

After getting ready, Kang Siyin went downstairs with her mother for some morning dim sum.

Her cousin and the person she was set up with were already sitting inside, waiting.

"Xiaoying, you’re here? Why didn’t you put on some makeup? Look at this bare face..." Her cousin started to nag as soon as she saw Kang Siyin’s makeup-free face.

"I don’t know how to do makeup, and I don’t buy any..." Kang Siyin replied irritably.

"How can you not buy any? How much do you make? You can afford makeup, right? Don’t you need to wear makeup in Beijing?" Her cousin bombarded her with questions.

"In Beijing, the air itself is already ruining my skin, I don’t want to have the skin of a 50-year-old when I’m only 20, because of makeup!" Kang Siyin retorted with some hidden sarcasm.

"You’re impossible... Anyway, let me introduce you..." Her cousin pulled the blind date closer, "Ning Lei, a relative of my colleague, he works at that... eh? Where did you say you work again?"

"Ni Lanya skincare products Huanan District chief sales assistant..." Ning Lei murmured.

"Ni Lanya? That facial cleanser from your company is so good and it lasts! A 150g bottle can last almost a year!" Hearing the brand name, Kang Siyin was quite familiar with it; several people in her apartment were using that brand’s facial cleanser.

"Oh, is that so... Well, that’s good to hear..." Ning Lei shyly lowered his head and smiled embarrassingly, as if he was bashfully accepting a compliment.

"Come on, don’t just stand there, have a seat and order some dim sum, I’m starving!" her cousin ordered everyone around.

"Go on, sit with Xiaoning..." Kang’s mom nudged Kang Siyin next to Ning Lei and pressed her shoulders for her to sit down.

"I don’t have anything to talk about with him..." Kang Siyin muttered under her breath.

"Didn’t you just say you were familiar with his company’s products? Just talk about that..." Kang’s mom believed that having something in common was enough to start a conversation.

But as it turned out, she had vastly overestimated her daughter’s ability to communicate.

The two sat side by side, neither initiating a conversation with the other, just eating the food on their plates.

"Didn’t you two start off with quite a bit to chat about? How come as soon as you sit down, you both turn into mutes?" her cousin teased. "Xiaoning, why don’t you ask my cousin about her job?"

"Oh... What does Miss Kang do for a living?" Ning Lei echoed the cousin’s prompt with parrot-like precision.

It seemed that he too was not particularly skilled in communication. It was baffling how someone who was this bad at initiating conversations could be a sales assistant.

"I work for a fashion forum; I handle the technical stuff," Kang Siyin answered nonchalantly after swallowing the shrimp dumpling and then added a siu mai to her plate.

"C...COO, huh? Pretty impressive. Respect, respect..." Ning Lei complimented, then fell silent again.

"You silly girl, stop focusing on eating and ask some questions, things you want to know!" Kang’s mother snatched the chopsticks away from Kang Siyin, who was seriously picking out the peas from the siu mai, visibly irritated.

"I don’t really have anything to ask; I wasn’t planning on going on a blind date... You insisted I come..." Kang Siyin picked up another pair of chopsticks from the bucket.

Although Kang Siyin’s voice wasn’t loud, Ning Lei, who was sitting beside her, still heard it: "Actually, I didn’t want to come either..."

"Xiaoning, how much is your monthly salary?" Since Kang Siyin had nothing to ask, her mother took over.

"Not much, not even 1000. I just joined, still in probationary period..." Each time Ning Lei responded to a question, he respectfully set down his chopsticks on the plate.

"Our Xiaoying’s monthly salary is 5000 by now, right? This Lunar New Year, she even got three times the salary!" People love to compare, and Kang Siyin’s vain mother was no exception.

"That’s really good... almost catching up to my boss’s salary! I wonder how long I’ll have to work before I can earn that much." Ning Lei said enviously.

"Your company provides the three insurances and housing fund, right? How are the welfare benefits?..." Kang’s mother bombarded him with questions, leaving Ning Lei speechless.

"Mom! Can you please stop, we’re eating!" Kang Siyin knocked her plate with her chopsticks impatiently, "Why did you become a sales assistant? You don’t have to answer her questions, just answer mine..."

Perhaps it was the attraction between similar types, Kang Siyin felt no nervousness talking to Ning Lei, and her social anxiety didn’t flare up.

Maybe it was because the other person seemed even more nervous than her, but Kang Siyin wasn’t panicking at all at the moment, just focusing on eating her dim sum.

"Because I’m too shy, and I don’t like dealing with people. My brother found this job for me to try and toughen up..." Ning Lei’s voice was laced with extreme reluctance, it seemed he too was being forced by family to do something he didn’t enjoy.

Hearing this, Kang Siyin couldn’t help but feel grateful for Zhou Xueyin’s help; otherwise, she might have been driven insane by now.

"Actually, our company could connect with sales like yours, but I don’t really understand what a sales assistant does. However, with your personality, it probably really isn’t suitable." Kang Siyin was brutal, directly stating that Ning Lei wasn’t suited for his job.

"But I can’t really do anything else, and the entry barrier is low..." Ning Lei said, even less confident.

Her cousin was really ridiculous, arranging a blind date without understanding the situation, and now she ended up with a dud.

Incredibly shy, speaking slowly and without urgency, it’s like there was no hurry at all.

"I’m full, I’m going back. Enjoy..." After finishing the siu mai, Kang Siyin wiped her mouth and stood up to leave.

"Where are you going? Come back and sit down! You two should chat more!" Kang’s mother pulled Kang Siyin back to her seat.

"Chat? What’s there to chat about? I need to get back and watch over the forum so nothing goes wrong! It’ll be troublesome if the data messes up!" Kang Siyin said with displeasure.

"Oh right, my boss said he wants me to expand the business over the holidays, preferably find a platform for advertising..." Ning Lei suddenly remembered the holiday task his boss had assigned.

"Wow, your boss is a real skinflint, eh? Assigning you tasks even during the holidays?" Kang Siyin looked at Ning Lei with a complex expression.
