Chapter 125: What’s Got Them All Riled Up?

Chapter 125: What’s Got Them All Riled Up?

"Eld! Naden!"

Gal shouted frantically, yanking the greatsword from his back to rescue his buddies.

Just then:

"Boom!"

"Boom!"

Around these giant claws, two more sand giants burst out of the ground.

"Get out of here! Gal!"

"Don’t worry about us!"

Eld and Naden looked like they’d seen their own graves.

They knew it took all three of them just to barely handle one salt giant—if their teammate charged in now, it would be a suicide mission.

Gal knew the score too, but to abandon his teammates and run like a yellow-bellied coward...

The giant salt claws squeezed hard, and bone-chilling cracking sounds filled the air.

Eld and Naden let out bloodcurdling screams.

"Eld! Naden!"

Gal threw caution to the wind and swung his greatsword toward those sand claws.

"Bang!"

Two sand giants flanked him from both sides, boxing him in.

Massive fists came down like hammers.

Gal was sent flying like a rag doll, hitting the ground hard—nobody knew if he was dead or alive.

Seeing this, the two sand giants grinned like devils, their cruel eyes gleaming as they prepared to finish him off.

"Gal!" x2

Eld and Naden, fighting through excruciating pain, saw this and felt their hearts sink into their boots.

They kicked themselves—the three of them should never have taken this cursed mission!

Just as the three waited for the grim reaper, a series of explosive sounds suddenly thundered in their ears:

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Salt sand flew in all directions.

Four greatswords dropped from the sky, followed by four towering red skeleton monsters radiating pure terror.

"?"

"Boom!"

Tall bodies flashed, razor-sharp greatswords sliced through the air.

In just a few swipes, the two sand giants had their limbs chopped off and cores destroyed.

The remaining giant sand claws, seeing the writing on the wall, tried to beat a hasty retreat back into the sand.

But the Shield Guards were lightning-fast, their greatswords cutting deep into the claws’ bases.

The two sand claws immediately shrieked and writhed, involuntarily releasing the Psionics they held.

The Shield Guards twisted their swords and heaved upward with brutal force.

The sand claws’ foundations were instantly severed as they crashed to the ground, deader than doornails.

All this happened in the blink of an eye.

After finishing the job, the four Shield Guards stood like granite sentinels on the salt surface.

Eld and Naden, who had just escaped death by the skin of their teeth, looked at each other with pure shock and fear.

"What in tarnation are these things?"

"Why would they save our hides?"

These two thoughts bounced around their heads as they tried to get up.

Just pushing themselves up with their hands:

"Cough!"

"Son of a gun!"

Right away, the brutal pain in their bodies kicked into high gear—they felt like a whole mess of bones were busted.

"Eld, Naden, you boys all right?"

Gal, who was less banged up, quietly crawled over with worry written all over his face.

"Still breathing!"

"Just some busted bones!"

Gal quickly helped his teammates up and gave them alchemical healing potions.

At the same time, he looked gratefully at the four skeleton monsters up ahead.

....

In the sky, Carlos took in the whole show below.

"Sand giants, sand claw monsters—how did they turn up here?"

These two types of monsters were lackeys of the dark mist node boss, the One-Eyed Sand Giant.

They usually only prowled around the heart of the Pure White Salt Pool, where the salt particles were finer and better quality, perfect for their growth and feeding.

This was the outskirts—by all rights, these monsters shouldn’t be anywhere near here.

Carlos mulled over this puzzle for a hot minute before putting it on the back burner.

There were some troubles that needed his attention right now.

In his line of sight, whole armies of sand giants were actually charging toward this spot from way off in the distance...

...

On the salt surface, the three Psionics huddled together like wounded animals, nursing their injuries.

Naden had eagle eyes.

Suddenly, he spotted countless black specks appearing on the far horizon.

After getting a good look, his face went white as a sheet as he pointed with a shaking finger into the distance:

"Holy smokes! Massive numbers of sand... sand giants!!!"

"What!"

His two companions looked where Naden was pointing and felt like they were staring death in the face!

Countless sand giants were kicking up waves of white sand as they barreled toward their little group.

"Run! We gotta run!"

Without missing a beat, all three made the same call at once, propping each other up as they struggled to their feet.

Before high-tailing it, they didn’t forget to holler to the four skeleton monsters who had saved their bacon:

"Skeleton fellas, massive numbers of sand giants are heading this way!"

The Redrose Shield Guards didn’t budge an inch.

Without orders from their master, they couldn’t possibly make a move.

"No reaction!"

"Aren’t they getting out of Dodge?"

The three Psionics looked at each other, scratching their heads.

Though these four skeleton monsters were tough cookies, taking out the sand claws and sand giants with just a few sword swipes, what they’d be facing soon wasn’t just a handful of sand giants, but countless monsters!

In the Desolate Desert, this force was enough to steamroll anything in its path!

After shouting several times and finding these skeleton monsters completely stone-faced, the three Psionics had to throw in the towel on convincing them.

"Let’s scram! We’re getting out of here!"

The three quickly beat feet in one direction...

After running for just a few minutes, they were forced to stop dead in their tracks, their faces looking like they’d seen a ghost.

On the distant horizon in that direction, another army of sand giants had shown up!

"Quick! Change course!"

This time, what they saw wasn’t sand giants, but whole swarms of wandering sand claws.

The three quickly veered toward the last direction.

Before long, numerous sand claws were swimming toward them like sharks smelling blood.

"We can’t get away!"

"We’re trapped like rats!"

The three felt like they were between a rock and a hard place.

Beyond feeling doomed, they also felt stumped:

Why would they be worth such a massive monster army hunting them down?

...

High in the sky, Carlos was equally baffled.

Such a large-scale deployment of boss underlings definitely wasn’t for these three small-time Psionics.

If Carlos hadn’t sent out the Redrose Shield Guards to step in, the three Psionics below would probably already be dried-up corpses.

"Only the dark mist node boss One-Eyed Sand Giant could round up such huge numbers of sand giants and sand claw monsters."

But strangely enough, looking around, Carlos didn’t see hide nor hair of the One-Eyed Sand Giant.

"What’s in this neck of the woods that’s got them all riled up?"

Carlos stared at the salt pool below, lost in thought...

...

Below, the three Psionics grimly fell back to the side of the Redrose Shield Guards.

They knew making a break for it was hopeless.

Staying near these four powerful skeleton monsters might let them live to fight another day.

"Think these four skeleton fellas can punch through?"

After hearing Gal’s words, the other two companions gave it some serious thought.

"Fat chance—there are too many monsters hemming us in."

"Even if these four skeleton... fellas can take down one, two... even ten, twenty... we’re staring down at least several thousand!"
