Chapter 52: Departing the main family (2)
Chapter 52: Departing the main family (2)
The beast egg was delivered to Renard in an incubation artifact that maintained the perfect temperature and environment for its development.
No questions were asked about his selection, though Sebastian did give him some odd looks—probably wondering why he’d chosen such a visibly small egg.
With that matter settled, Renard left the main house and returned to the Eastern Wing where he had been staying. Lilly was still waiting in the quarters assigned to him, having prepared everything for his departure.
"I have prepared your clothes and luggage, young master," she said with a respectful bow.
"Thank you, Lilly."
Since he had some time before leaving, Renard decided to gather information about the Awakening Ceremony. He already knew what each participant had awakened from his past life, but he wanted to confirm the details and see if anything had changed.
There had actually been three people who awakened Royal rank Blood Crests, not counting Renard whose awakening had been officially covered up as a "malfunctioning of the Genesis Pillar."
The first was, of course, Lyra Grim, whom he had witnessed personally. The second was Adrianne from the Twins of Ironshade—it seemed the sister was more talented than her twin brother.
The last person was from a branch family—a boy named Vanar. His awakening had been the most shocking after Renard’s chaotic display, since no one had expected someone without direct patriarchal blood to awaken a Royal bloodline.
That’s right! Unlike all the others, Vanar wasn’t an offspring of Patriarch Zephyr. He was the son of a minor branch family that had settled near the shores of Vyrmland, one of the seven regions under House Grim’s control.
They weren’t even the lords of Vyrmland—just people who had settled in one part of it, excluded from most family affairs.
Seeing such a prodigy emerge from such humble origins had indeed been shocking for everyone.
According to Lilly, when Vanar awakened, the golden light that manifested showed an entire army of beasts. Renard wasn’t surprised—everything had progressed exactly like his past life.
What he regretted was not getting to meet the second son of the First Lady, who had also participated in the awakening ceremony. Unlike the others, this boy wasn’t particularly talented, and the Blood Crest he awakened was subpar from the standards of the Grim family, only being the Epic rank. But Renard wanted to meet him because of his older brother.
The first son of the First Lady was currently the strongest candidate for the position of next Patriarch. Renard had never met him personally in his previous life, but he wanted to build some connection with him if possible. The man was said to be an amazing beast master, and if that was true, having him as an ally would be invaluable in the coming war against the seven great families.
Nonetheless, with all his belongings prepared, he was ready to depart. But there was one major problem—he didn’t know where to go!
Taira Castle was absolutely out of the question. The commander of Taira castle had witnessed his awakening and who knew what preparations he might have made to have Renard killed.
Renard was wondering if he would even be safe outside the main house.
Returning to Draemir territory was also an option, it would be safe, but it wouldn’t be useful for achieving his goals.
His current priorities were clear, to cure his mother and prepare for the war against the great families.
Curing his mother was complicated. He needed to visit a special place where the cure could be found. Although he knew the place, to even attempt the journey, he would need to reach at least the Transcendent rank just to guarantee his safety.
And even if he found the cure, returning to Taira Castle would be dangerous—he would have to face the commander and his army waiting to kill him.
His mother was safe because ’she’ was beside her, but the same couldn’t be said for him if he tried to return now.
The good news was that his mother’s condition wasn’t immediately life-threatening. Although she couldn’t use her powers, her life wasn’t at immediate risk. He had time.
As for preparing for war, he needed strength and money. People don’t follow weak leaders, so he had to become strong enough to command their loyalty and respect.
But strength alone wouldn’t be enough. War required resources—vast amounts of them.
He would need money to hire mercenaries and skilled fighters who weren’t bound by family loyalties. The seven great families had centuries of accumulated wealth and established armies. To challenge them, he couldn’t rely solely on whatever forces he could gather through bloodline connections.
Money would be needed for weapons and armor—not just ordinary equipment, but enchanted gear capable of standing against the artifacts and treasures the great families possessed. Beast cores for cultivation, rare materials for forging, magical supplements to accelerate training—all of these required significant financial investment.
Then there was the matter of information networks. Spies, informants, and intelligence gatherers all demanded payment. In a war against multiple great families, knowing their movements, plans, and weaknesses would be crucial for survival, let alone victory.
Most importantly, he would need to establish his own territory and power base. That meant purchasing or conquering a land, constructing fortifications, and building the infrastructure necessary to support an army. Food supplies, medical facilities, training grounds—maintaining a force capable of challenging the established order would drain gold like water.
He knew how to get stronger—that was simply a matter of training and cultivation. The real concern now was money.
Although he knew about some important investments and opportunities where he could make a big amount of money, he didn’t even have the money to start that ’investment’.
But thankfully, he knew exactly where he could get that investment amount.
"Lilly, do you have paper and ink?"
Now that he had decided on a destination, he needed to inform his grandfather and sister. He didn’t want them worrying about him unnecessarily. Also, he had sent Zain on an important mission and didn’t know if it had been successful, so he decided to send a letter to him as well, just in case.
After finishing his letters, Renard handed over them to Lilly asking to pass them to Sebastian to be sent to Draemir territory.
With the immediate concerns taken care of, Renard finally set out with a slight smile on his face.
"Should I buy some flowers? I am visiting my fiancée after such a long time after all!"
