Chapter 69: A Messy Scandal!

"Miss Brooke, are you sure you’re only having lunch? You’ve been staring at that mirror for an awfully long time." Hannah folded her arms, her eyes narrowed on Brooke, who sat by the dresser in her room.

Brooke paused, holding the hair brush to her hair, "I’m just making sure I look fine." She lied.

’I can’t possibly tell Hannah me and Mr Grayson are going ring shopping today. She’d make too much of a big deal out of it.’ Brooke thought, dropping the brush on the dresser.

Thane’s proposal some days ago had come as a huge shock to her. She didn’t think he was serious about getting married, and thought she could dodge the subject all together.

’Getting married again...’ she rubbed her ringless finger. ’The thought scares me a bit...’

"Is that so?" Hannah was not convinced, but decided to let the issue go. She believed Brooke would tell her if she wanted to.

"Anyway, what happens to the audition? You haven’t heard back from them all this while? They’ve already announced the confirmed cast members, your friend Sadie being one of them. I thought they’d hold the auditions for the female lead sooner, right?" Hannah asked, slicing through her thoughts.

Brooke sighed, "The incident at the audition is still fresh, the producers are trying not to act rashly. For now they have the public’s attention, but it’s not for favorable reasons. Any wrong choice they take could ruin their movie drastically before is even released." She dropped her shoulders.

"Frankly, if I were them, no matter how good the talent, I wouldn’t cast them. Especially after that stunt Cassie pulled." She confessed.

Hannah balled her fists. "That woman is such a bitch. She rejected the role and went on to tell that to everyone. It’s almost like she’s trying to say even if she isn’t the lead no one else can be. Just how old does she think she is?!"

"It’s fine. Even if I’m not cast for that role, at least Sadie will get justice for what happened to her and get a fresh start. That’s all that matters to me right now." Brooke said, only for her phone to vibrate on the table.

She casually picked it up, half expecting it to be Serena, cursing her out for what happened at the station two days back.

"What?" Brooke tilted her head and furled her lips, she shot a quick glance at Hannah, then back at the text from Sadie.

"What’s wrong?" Hannah asked.

Brooke flashed the text message that Sadie had just sent her, Hannah quickly read it, and was equally as stunned.

"She’s quitting the film?" Hannah blurted out. "I don’t understand, why would she..." in the middle of her sentence a notification popped up. "Miss Brooke, you should see this." She passed the phone back to Brooke.

Hastily, Brooke tapped on the headlines and gasped at the photo of Sadie and the producer, coming out of a car together, with what looked to be his jacket draped on her shoulders.

"This is horrible." Her eyes watered at all the hateful comments that followed the article. She immediately tried calling Sadie a few times but she didn’t answer, and it made Brooke worry for her.

When Brooke went to their shared bedroom to tell Thane all about what was happening, he was already on a phone call, handling the situation.

"I see."

"What’s going on? Who took those pictures?" Brooke asked, as she wheeled into the room.

"I just got off the phone with my informant. The pictures were shared first on a newly created xxgram account." He filled her in.

Brooke’s expression contorted into worry. "And Sadie was just getting out of her shell. I was the one who convinced her to press charges, and now her career..." She couldn’t finish her words as tears fell from her eyes.

Thane tossed his phone to the bed and went over to Brooke. He rested his hand on hers and started warmly into her eyes. "There is no point in self blaming. Right now, I’ll find out who posted those photos and have them come out to make an apology statement." He assured her, tightening his grip on her hand.

"Why would she even..." Brooke couldn’t understand why Sadie would go to see the producer, especially at such a risky time. What was it that was so important she went out of her way to see him?

"Ahahaha! Is this karma? Or am I just too lucky? I didn’t even need to lift a finger and that bitch was taken care of!" Cassie yelled in amusement the second she read the article on Sadie and the producer of pocket change productions.

Cassie went on, "So that bitch was sleeping with that producer? Was that why she kept insisting on being in that film? How hilarious! And she dared to look down on me?!"

Her mother furrowed her brows, "I don’t understand, what does this mean? Will your father be taken out of prison now?" It had been two days, and no move had been made.

Her daughter forbade her from going to see him in prison, and all she had been doing was waiting.

Cassie frowned. "Use your head mother! The woman that filed the charges is being chewed out right now. Everyone is saying she’s a social climber, now is the perfect time for us to make a statement!"

"A statement? I thought that assistant from Mr Grayson told us not to make any decisions without consulting him first?" Her mother was nervous, that her daughter was overly excited and forgetting to think.

But Cassie was on a high, she took her phone and logged into her socials to start a live stream. "Remember mom, we have to sell the act. So go cut some onions or use some water, we’re going to ruin this bitch."

*Two days ago*

When Sadie arrived at the rendezvous spot, she took out her phone and called Lucas to find out where he was. In order not to be a burden, she asked the driver to go home, and insisted she would return by herself.

"I’m already at the spot, where are you?" Sadie asked, her gaze skimming around the expensive restaurant they were meant to meet.

"I’m almost there, I actually am not alone, I hope you don’t mind that. I came with a guest." He said, rousing her suspicion.

"A guest?" She raised a brow. What guest?

"That’s fine. And besides it’s better it isn’t just the two of us. I wouldn’t want any weird rumors flying around about us." She responded.

She waited for about ten minutes, before she heard footsteps approach her table. But when she raised her gaze from the overpriced menu, her countenance fell.

She rose from her seat, "J-Justin?" She locked her gaze on the shorter guy in a hood, standing next to Lucas.

"Big sis!" Justin cried out, then rushed over to hug his sister. "I’ve missed you so much!"

"W-What are..."

Lucas filled her in. "He approached me earlier, and told me who he was. I remembered you telling me something about your missing brother, so I immediately called, so you two could meet."

Sadie couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She reflexively hugged her brother back, her tears flowed freely from her eyes.

"Well then, I’ll leave you two alone." Lucas said, and left the restaurant to give the siblings privacy. He intentionally chose the place because he knew the owner, and the place was quiet.

No one would photograph them, or spread distasteful rumours.

Once Lucas was gone, they both sat across from each other, to catch up. Or so she figured.

"Justin! What the hell were you thinking running away? I had been looking for-" her brother cut her off.

"That man, he’s in love with you. Isn’t he?" Justin asked out of the blue.

"What?" Sadie’s cheeks flushed. "Don’t talk rubbish, he’s just the boss! And besides we’re talking about you..."

Justin stretched his hands out on the table, revealing the cigarette burns on his wrists. "No ordinary boss would go this far? He could’ve sent me away, or had someone take me to you. He had no business making the personal trip."

"Justin I don’t understand. What are you trying to say?" Her tone was shaky.

Her brother grinned, "You’ve been enjoying haven’t you? Appearing on television, being cast in such a popular show. You’re living large-" all of a sudden he grabbed her wrists and hardened his tone. "While your brother has been out there suffering! What a cunt!" He gritted his teeth.

"Justin-ouch! Stop it! You’re-"

"You think you can live as an actress and just forget about me? You selfish sister! I’m not going anywhere, not when you’re spreading your legs for a rich man. I deserve some of that money too." He hardened his grip, restricting her struggling.

"You’re misunderstanding! What the hell are you even talking about?! I’m not like that!" She snapped at him.

"Shut up bitch!" He dug his nails into her hands, "I don’t care how you do it, but I want six hundred thousand dollars credited into my account in two days! Or you will fucking regret it!"
