Chapter 60: Why Don’t You Feed It To Me?

Chapter 60: Why Don’t You Feed It To Me?

When Thane returned from speaking to the police officer, Sadie had passed out and was fast asleep on Brooke’s lap. Thane crawled into the driver’s seat and stared at her through the rear view mirror.

"That girl, she’s been through a lot." He pointed out.

Brooke nodded, "She doesn’t even have a place to spend the night, the poor thing. She says she’s too scared to sleep in that house, that they may come back to get her."

"It’s fine. I’ll arrange for an apartment she can stay in." Thane announced, starting the car. "And tell her when she wakes up not to bother coming back here, she should just forget about it."

Brooke wanted to ask why Thane would go that far for a girl he just met, but then she felt the answer was obvious enough.

"Thank you. And, I’m sorry the date got cut short, I’ll make it up to you, I promise." She said, as he drove away from the area.

"It’s fine Brooke, and besides this ended up working in our favor." He pointed out.

Brooke nodded. "I hate to think I’m using Sadie for my revenge, because she really is a good girl. But you’re right, with this we can land a strike against Luther." She said, then cast a forlorn glance at Sadie’s peaceful expression.

"That man has no heart." She gritted her teeth, utterly disgusted with Luther’s behavior.

Thane made a phone call, and in a matter of minutes he was able to reserve a brand new apartment for Sadie. And when she woke up, she was stunned to see she was sleeping on a bed she never owned, in a room she’d never been in before.

"W-Where am I?" She blinked twice, as she got out of bed, only to notice Brooke sleeping at the edge of her bed on a wheelchair.

The movement from her waking up, woke Brooke up as well. She did some light stretches as she got up. "Did I wake you?"

Sadie shook her head. "No, but where am I?" She asked, the room was large, far larger than her former bedroom, and looked expensive, but yet the space was minimized perfectly.

"You’ll be staying here until things have died down." Brooke announced.

"What? But this place looks so expensive! I won’t be able to cover the rent!" She spat out.

"You don’t have to, the full year’s rent has already been paid for."

Sadie gasped, "What? By who?" Her question was answered when the tall, good looking man from earlier with a cold look in his eye walked into the room, holding a plate of sandwiches and a cup of what smelled like coffee.

She shrank back when he approached her, scared that he would shout at her or something of the sort. But he gently laid the plate next to Brooke, and all of a sudden the coldness in his gaze melted into warmth.

"You haven’t had anything to eat all morning, you need to replenish your energy." He said, scolding her lightly.

Brooke obediently took the mug off his hands and drank from it, a warm smile etched on her face after taking a sip.

Thane turned to her, the coldness in his eyes returned, "Are you feeling hungry?" he asked.

She shook her head. Scared he was just asking to be polite.

He frowned, "Alright, just let me know when you are, so I microwave the meatloaf I made."

Sadie was shocked to hear that the intimidating man had been in her kitchen all day long making her something to eat.

"Mr Grayson" Brooke said, offering him half of her sandwich. "You haven’t had anything to eat either."

Thane’s warm gaze returned, he leaned in and said in a flirtatious tone. "Why don’t you feed it to me?"

A blush crept on Sadie’s cheeks, she felt like she was intruding on something she shouldn’t have.

Brooke pursued her lips, "Please stop teasing me already, I’m being serious here. You already look so pale, here, have it." She insisted, passing it to him.

Sadie noticed the hint of disappointment on his face when he took the half sandwich off her hands and ate it. However that disappointed contorted into a helpless smile, once Brooke started grinning in contentment.

’Could something possibly be going on between these two?’ Sadie wondered, as she watched them closely.

"Sadie, we want to help you get back at Luther, but that can only happen if you’re willing to do something about it." Brooke said, stealing her attention.

But Sadie still looked hesitant, "But, I’m not the only one who has to go through this. What if we don’t win? What’ll happen to me then?"

Brooke exchange quick glances with Thane. "What do you mean you’re not the only one?"

Sadie replied. "President Crane helped some of the other staff members, and in their employment contract, he takes a percentage of their salaries."

"What?!" Brooke couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

"Yeah, some of the other actress have to pay back an interest rate of over fifteen percent of what they initially owed. While still having a forty percent cut out of their salaries." She explained.

"That’s exploitation!" Brooke cried out.

Thane asked her, "Do you have a copy of the contract?"

"Yes, it’s saved on my drive."

"I’ll need a copy of it to send to my legal team." He told her.

At the mention of terms like exploitation and a legal team, Sadie got scared. "I knew that he was an asshole, but I signed the contract on my own, do you think we can do anything about that? Won’t I get in trouble for breaching the contract?"

But Brooke’s anger wouldn’t die down. "What contract? This is modern day slavery! And besides, wasn’t he the one who sent those loan sharks to your house to harass you? He breached it first!"

In a calmer tone, Thane said to Sadie, "You did well holding out until now, just leave the rest to us, we’ll take care of everything." And although his eyes were still menacing, his tone was sincere, and made Sadie feel at ease.

At ease to hear that she could finally breathe.
