Chapter 57: A Successful First Movie Experience

Thane turned to her, his expression concerned.

"I was worried this sort of thing would happen," he said, his voice laced with regret. "It was inconsiderate of me to do this when you haven’t fully recovered."

Brooke’s eyebrows shot up, confusion etched on her face. "What? No, I never saw it that way," she replied sharply.

Thane’s gaze followed hers to the dress she wore, the source of her awkwardness all morning. He sighed, his shoulders sagging in self-reproach. "I should’ve minded my boundaries, it’s my fault. If you aren’t comfortable being alone with a guy yet, then you shouldn’t hesitate to tell me."

Brooke’s expression softened as she reflected on her actions, finally understanding Thane’s point. And then, she couldn’t help but laugh at his endearing concern.

Thane’s ears flushed with embarrassment as he scratched the back of his neck. "Did I say something funny?" he asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

He watched, mesmerized, as Brooke’s laughter lit up her face. He hadn’t seen her laugh like that in a while, and he wondered what he had said to bring such joy to her eyes.

Realizing how rude she was being she stopped laughing and straightened her shoulders. "It really isn’t how you think, I swear, your presence doesn’t make me feel threatened, in fact it’s almost the opposite when I’m with you. I don’t even think I’m with a man sometimes-"

Thane furled his lips into a slight frown at her remark, "Is that so?"

Brooke wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole. "Ah, wait that’s not what I meant! I just-" her words were cut short by the movie finally starting.

She sighed in defeat, and glued her eyes to the screen, trying to at least enjoy the film he had taken her out to see.

But Brooke couldn’t concentrate on the movie one bit, she kept stealing glances at Thane, to check if he was still angry at her. But each time she did, she couldn’t make sense of his expression, and ultimately gave up.

That was, until she soon realized how cold it could be inside of cinemas. She ran her fingers up and down her arms, trying to keep herself warm.

’I should’ve brought a jacket or worn a longer dress-’ in the middle of her thoughts, she felt something rest on her shoulders, that dispelled the cold.

"What-"

"Please wear it, I don’t want you to catch a cold." He said, referring to the jacket he had on, that was now resting on Brooke’s shoulders.

She nodded, "Thank you." And properly put it on, pulling it tightly.

’Ah, it even smells like his cologne.’ she said, secretly inhaling his scent, her ears flushed from her perverted behavior.

Her heart skipped a beat when she realized just how much like a real couple they must’ve looked.

For the rest of the movie, she couldn’t rub off the smile on her face, and ended up enjoying her first movie experience.

"Ah, you can have this back." Brooke sheepishly said, attempting to take his jacket off once the movie ended.

But Thane calmly responded, "It looks better on you, you should keep it."

Brooke was too flustered to say anything and kept it on. Also, with the jacket on, she felt less exposed and could carry on with the rest of the date.

"What did you think of the movie?" Thane asked, as he wheeled her out of the cinema room.

Brooke’s eyes lit up, "It was very good. The initial start was slow and seemed boring, but it served as a nice setup for the foreshadowing of that big plot twist! And the exposition was delivered in a way it felt natural, not to mention the last scene with the heroine, she played into her character nicely." She analyzed, her heart racing with excitement.

Due to her life as a shut-in, she watched movies alone in her room, and never had anyone expect people online to talk about the movie with.

Ethan wasn’t a fan of movies, so she couldn’t watch or even speak about a movie she liked with him.

But now, she felt she did have an ear to finally listen to her.

"Also," she went on, "The setting is similar to the world background in the film I’m auditioning in. What a coincidence."

Thane half smiled. "Yes, a coincidence." He replied, as though he had not reread her script three times over and brought her to see the only showing movie he deemed was close enough.

Hearing Brooke say she enjoyed the film he carefully selected was a huge ego boost for him.

"You’re hungry aren’t you? Let’s find something to eat, before we head to the next place." He announced.

"Oh. I thought you took me out to only see a movie." She thought aloud, "Is it okay for you to be away from work so long?" She worried for him.

"I said I wanted to spend the day with you. If you’re okay with it, I really mean that, I want to be with you today from start to finish." He told her.

Brooke gulped and held onto the jacket tighter, ’That sounded like some love confession! Damn it Brooke, stop thinking that way about him. Friends go on dates lot of times.’ she told herself, as he wheeled her out of the Cinema.

"Please, come again sir~" The manager raised his voice as Thane drove away from the parking space.

Keeping his gaze on the road he said to Brooke, "You look pretty." He said all of a sudden, confusing her.

"Ah," she played with her hair and looked away, "Thank you."

Thane went on, "I wanted to say that to you before we left, but I was worried I would upset you." He let out a defeated sigh and muttered to himself...

"Even after I said I’d stop being a coward."

But Brooke caught what he said, and it made her heart race wildly in her chest, as to what that statement could’ve meant.
