Chapter 39: Driving Her Plan Into Motion
Thane’s phone rang in Gilbert’s hand, but that was the last thing that caught his attention.
"Doctor! Inflammation levels are rising!"
"The stem cells implanted are rejecting his tissues!"
"The lung damage is-"
Gilbert stared through the glass with fear in his eyes as the doctors and nurses set to work on Thane, crowding the I.C.U.
He silenced the phone and shoved it in his pocket, focusing on the young master, hoping that he could get through the night safely.

Brooke’s countenance fell when she tried calling Thane two more times but he didn’t respond. When asked to dinner, she insisted she was full and retired early to sleep.
She laid on her bed, and decided to log into her socials, to see what was happening currently to take her mind off Thane.
Just as she logged into the account, did a message from her mother’s account pop up.
-Serena: Brooke I’m in trouble! I need your help! Please come see me immediately!
Brooke didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
This woman had no shame whatsoever. She deleted the message and tried blocking her number, but another message came in.
-Serena: You ungrateful bitch! You have no compassion for your mother!
-Serena: If you don’t come see me, I’ll post your wedding certificate online! Just you try me!
"This woman!" Brooke sat up. "Is she even human?"
Serena’s call came through and Brooke wasted no time to answer.
"You finally decide to answer your mother! You foolish girl! Where the hell are you hiding?!" Serena yelled over the phone.
Brooke had thought that hearing her mother’s voice would weaken her resolve, but it only made her anger grow.
"Serena you don’t have any ounce of shame do you? Why are you even calling me? We have nothing to-"
Her mother interjected, "You cheating whore! You acted like you were better than everyone else, that you were better than your sister. When you left your husband to fool around! Aren’t you ashamed?!"
Brooke pinched her temples, it felt like she was speaking to a rock. "I only answered to tell you never to try contacting me. You and everyone else in that house are dead to me!"
"Is that so? Well I still have business with you! Unless you want me to tell the whole world you’re Ethan’s wife, I suggest you come see me tomorrow."
Hearing someone call her Ethan’s wife made her skin itch. That was one secret she wished she could carry to the grave till she died.
Her mother went on. "I’ll tell everyone about how you’re a cheating bitch who stole Ethan’s money and ran off with your lover. You know how the media works, they’ll have a field day making the public hate you even more. And as for me, I’ll shed a tear or two, just like I did for Cassie, and her fans will hate you even more. Everyone will despise you," she snickered, "Is that what you want my darling daughter?"
Broke hissed, "F-Fine. But I’ll pick the place."
Serena agreed. "Of course."
The next day, Serena arrived at the venue that Brooke had picked, a coffee shop at the outskirts of town, with little to no customers. She sat down and ordered, while waiting for her daughter.
She waited for over thirty minutes, before Brooke was wheeled into the coffee shop, with the man she assumed was her boyfriend.
Upon seeing her daughter, the first thing she noticed were the worn out clothes she had on, and the cheap looking wheelchair she sat on.
’Ack! Look at my foolish daughter! Living life from riches to rags!’ she shook her head, when she got to the table, and noticed the bandaids plastered all across her arms and neck.
"So? What did you want from me?" Brooke asked, as she reached the table.
Serena raised her nose, and set her expensive bag on the table, making sure her daughter saw it. She took out the divorce papers and threw them at her daughter.
"That should never repeat itself, Ethan is willing to give you another chance, but you have to earn it." She said, "Be warned, this is your last chance."
Brooke looked through the papers"That stubborn man still hasn’t signed them?"
Her mother frowned, "Are you possessed? How could you think of leaving a man like Ethan for..." She looked at the plain looking man that wheeled her in.
Brooke scoffed, "That abuser?"
Serena pointed angrily, "Every man has faults, so why can’t you let his go? Why are you such an ingrate?!"
Brooke shook her head, "I wanted to give you a chance, but it seems like the only thing that controls you is money. It’s all you can think about, that’s why you sold your senses and can’t even see how cheap you look right now!"
"Cheap?! You need to look in a mirror!" She raised her voice, "Everything I’m wearing is either imported or very expensive, but look at you, you don’t even have good clothes on your back! Where has your stupid pride gotten you?!" She grabbed the papers from Brooke and ripped them to shreds.
She gathered her things and stood up, "Get up! Enough of your foolishness! We’re going home now-"
Her words were cut short when she heard her voice play from Brooke’s phone.
"You know how the media works, they’ll have a field day making the public hate you even more. And as for me, I’ll shed a tear or two, just like I did for Cassie, and her fans will hate you even more..."
She paused, crippled in shock and turned her attention to Brooke, who sat with a wide grin on her face.
"Brooke you recorded that?" Serena asked, with nothing but stun in her tone.
Brooke slipped her phone to the man standing behind her, reclined into the chair and crossed her arms across her chest.
"Serena, sit down." She ordered, an aura of iciness and dominance strongly exuding her.
"I have a thing or two of my own to say to you." Brooke said, driving her plan into motion.
