Deliberately Approaching
Chapter 196 Eavesdropping Outside the Kitchen

Chapter 196: Chapter 196 Eavesdropping Outside the Kitchen

The street wasn’t too far from Jin City University, maybe about two bus stops, but it was rather deserted with few pedestrians and vehicles.

Under the fading sunset, the sign was striking.

"Roast lamb leg?"

Tang Xiaowan yelled out.

The car slowly stopped, Leng Lingxiao gave Tang Xiaowan a slight smile before honking the horn twice, prompting two middle-aged men to come out of the shop.

One was carrying a light gray storage box, and the other a metal toolbox.

Tang Xiaowan asked, "What are you going to do?"

"Just checking the car," Leng Lingxiao replied, hitting a switch to open the trunk.

"You think Li Zishen put a tracker on me? No need, Cheng Shi took everything off long ago. It’s very safe, nothing is there."

Tang Xiaowan smiled proudly.

She thought the man would give up, but instead, she heard an even more determined response.

"Very quick, just a few minutes."

"Do we need to get out of the car?" Tang Xiaowan followed up.

"No need."

"So, are we having lamb leg for dinner?"

"It’s already in the trunk."

Upon hearing this, Tang Xiaowan immediately beamed with joy, her little head quickly turning towards the back seat.

"Oh, so that storage box just now was it? I wondered; it was so big and didn’t look like it was carrying tools. How much was it, I’ll transfer to you."

Leng Lingxiao raised an eyebrow, "Really transferring?"

That look was clearly one of disbelief, mixed with a bit of skepticism and teasing.

"Forget it, just deduct it from the account."

"Ha ha ha, I knew it; that’s just like you. When have you ever been polite with me before? Every penny I earn, you have a share in."

Tang Xiaowan stuck out her tongue at Leng Lingxiao and then burst into laughter with him.

But it didn’t last long before she stopped abruptly.

This scene felt so familiar to her; the two of them clinking glasses, eating freshly roasted lamb, planning how to make money in the future.

"Huahua, do you eat lamb leg... without dipping it in sauce?"

Caught off guard by Tang Xiaowan’s sudden question, Leng Lingxiao was a bit flustered, pausing for a few seconds before smiling and responding, "The original flavor is freshest."

The man, with his sharp eyebrows and starry eyes, truly was blessed with good looks.

Tang Xiaowan quickly turned to look out the window.

"I’ve been here before, right?"

Leng Lingxiao’s lips slightly curved, "Yes."

"Is it the medicine you gave me that, after finishing, helped me recover?"

"I don’t know, hopefully."

"The person who ambushed me that day... was it Lin Xiaoxiao? That’s why she is dead."

"Tangtang, some things are better left in the past. I’ll naturally tell you what you need to know, but some things are better not known."

"Okay, no more questions, I won’t force it."

Suddenly, the car window was tapped, by the man who was carrying the metal toolbox earlier.

The window slowly rolled down...

"Mr. Leng, Lady Tang, all done, you can go now."

Tang Xiaowan: "?"

This address... clearly shows he knows us.

It seems I really have been here before, and it was with Huahua.

"Okay, thank you," Leng Lingxiao replied.

"As it should be."

With that, the man quickly stepped back.

The car slowly started moving, but the man’s gaze stayed on Tang Xiaowan’s smiling face until she was out of sight.

"That man just now, does he know me?" Tang Xiaowan turned to face Leng Lingxiao.

"His name is Gangzi, your grandmother saved his life. Naturally, he’d be moved seeing you. You learned your lock-picking skills from him."

"Oh, I was wondering what—what did you just say? He taught him?"

Tang Xiaowan, as if shocked by electricity, suddenly turned around and looked toward the back of the car, where the man holding the metal toolbox was still standing.

"Sit tight, just know it in your heart."

"You too, you should have said something earlier. After all, he’s my mentor. It was so impolite, you didn’t even get out of the car."

"Sometimes, it’s better to keep a certain distance between people."

"Oh, okay, got it."

Tang Xiaowan’s eyes were wide open, a look of half-understanding on her face.

Ten minutes later, they arrived at Jinyuan Academy.

Leng Lingxiao parked the car behind building 28, and Tang Xiaowan noticed that the lush green lawn had disappeared, turned into a parking lot.

"How does this place keep changing? Initially, I remember there was a big tree, then it mysteriously became... Now it’s... Huahua, it must be you, right?"

"Tangtang, this piece of land was originally mine. You’re lucky; parking is so convenient now."

"Nonsense, seeing a big tree when I go out is so refreshing. The car can be parked on the side of the road, it doesn’t bother anyone."

"That tree was too big, blocked the view."

Tang Xiaowan: "..."

"You’re not spying on me, are you?"

"Joking, me, a..."

Leng Lingxiao cut his sentence halfway and, seeing Cheng Shi come out, tossed him the keys, "Take the leg of lamb out of the trunk and send it to the kitchen."

Cheng Shi nodded, "Okay, Mr. Leng."

Tang Xiaowan observed the entire scene, curious why there was no reaction between the two men.

He said you’re not a man!

Shouldn’t he be kicked for that?

Swapping cars without my permission, definitely deserves a beating!

"Hey, Tangtang, what are you thinking about?"

Leng Lingxiao waved his hand in front of Tang Xiaowan’s eyes, having seen through her little schemes.

"Nothing, I’m just hungry and was thinking whether to snack on pig’s feet first or start with the lamb leg. Let’s start with the lamb leg."

"Me too, let’s go inside."

Dinner went very pleasantly, although Tang Xiaowan repeatedly invited them, Cheng Shi and the others insisted on keeping the master-servant divide, each eating their own.

One table in the dining room, another in the kitchen.

"Eating alone must be boring, right?" Leng Lingxiao asked.

"Yeah, they’re having a great time over there, three people chatting and laughing. Every time I just hold my bowl and run over to eavesdrop."

Seeing the envious look on Tang Xiaowan’s face, Leng Lingxiao also felt deeply.

He too was someone who ate alone.

"No worries, you’ll have me in the future."

Tang Xiaowan frowned, "You?"

"Yeah, not welcome?"

"You really plan to stay in Jin City permanently? What about the company?"

"That’s not something you should worry about. Besides, what era are we living in? Remote work solves a lot of issues. If there really is something urgent, I can get from here to... many places in just a few hours."

Tang Xiaowan nodded repeatedly in agreement.

Meanwhile, on the other side, in the kitchen.

The three were gossiping about who Tang Xiaowan likes.

Wang Meijuan: "It must be Mr. Leng."

Granny Yu turned to look at Cheng Shi, "From what you know about them, who is more suitable for the lady?"

"Either is fine, both are good."

As soon as Cheng Shi finished speaking, Wang Meijuan grumpily moved the lamb leg a bit further away.

"You don’t know anything. What do you mean ’both are good’? One look at Li Zishen and you know he’s up to no good. Knowing the lady isn’t willing, he still insisted on holding her hand under the guise of protection to take advantage."

Granny Yu frowned, "Is that so?"

"Yes, don’t believe me? Ask Cheng Shi. It happened the night before we moved out of Li Garden. If Cheng Shi hadn’t barged in, who knows what he would have done to the lady. Mr. Leng is much better."

Wang Meijuan became more agitated as she spoke, unaware that outside the kitchen, two people were secretly listening.
