Chapter 470: Chapter 468: Tos Civilization

Seeing everyone sitting upright and with serious faces, Mr. Chen Mu continued, "Especially in the coming days, we may land on a planet and select our own embassy. I hope everyone will maintain proper etiquette, speak as little as possible in public places, as no one knows whether other civilizations possess the means to read electromagnetic wave codes. Observe more, think more."

"We must seek to better understand the entire universe, the political systems of the Milky Way, including factions that are at the core of high-level civilizations, to see if their influence will impact our own development..."

"We have come bearing these tasks."

Zhao Qingfeng raised his hand to signal, "Mr. Chen, I think we should first ask this Huantai Civilization guide; even if we don’t pay, he should still provide some basic information and knowledge. Like the Alef Civilization, Hicks Civilization, we know nothing about these high-level civilizations. It would be good if we could find out something from this Cocos-shaped Wart."

Minister Chen Mu shook his head, "Your question is good, but this guide only gives out some basic universal knowledge, much of which we have already learned from the Badit people. As for the rest, most of it comes at a cost... Let’s first take a look, especially at the related universal political factions."

Most of it comes at a cost? Zhang Yuan wrinkled his nose; this giant worm really was a rip-off.

Firstly, the Gaia Faction is a neutral faction centered around the Gaia Civilization, with the lowest entry threshold set at a Sixth Level Civilization!

Its ideology is unknown.

From its current actions, it seems to be somewhat friendly towards low-level civilizations, usually providing a little help, as exemplified by the Hicks Civilization that’s currently dispensing a "Newbie Gift Package."

Someone murmured softly to themselves, "So... the Enlighteners we’ve previously met, were they members of the Gaia Faction?"

The entire room fell silent, with no one discussing further.

The standard of a Sixth Level Civilization startled everyone greatly.

Zhang Yuan was lost in a daze, struggling to find words. The technology of a Sixth Level Civilization was almost like fantasy for humans; just the Virtual World Technology gifted by the Gaia Civilization alone had spawned endless possibilities. Without this technology, the path of human development would undoubtedly be much harder.

This was merely the lowest entry threshold for the Gaia Faction!

The colossal entities in the depths of space, even if just the tip of the iceberg, were enough to leave one in awe.

Regrettably, however, the activity traces of the Gaia Faction have been growing weaker over the past hundred thousand years. In recent years, only the Hicks Civilization has been active in a few trade markets of the Milky Way, and it’s not clear what has happened in between...

"Or possibly, these civilizations have shifted their attention to other Star Domains."

Minister Chen let out a sigh, "...Apart from some popular knowledge, all information comes at a price. Next up is information on the Noah Faction."

The Noah Faction is a major faction that entered the Milky Way from an external galaxy system more than a hundred thousand years ago.

Its main civilization behind the scenes is known as the Noah Civilization.

The civilization level is unknown, and it is even more likely that the main civilization has not intervened in the Milky Way at all.

The members of the Noah Faction are keen on spreading their own ideologies and assimilating other civilizations. Their most well-known project is constructing superluminal communication networks throughout the Milky Way. At least on the surface, that indeed seems to be the case.

"What about the Alef Civilization then?"

"Don’t know, no information was provided. Perhaps there are many types of religious civilizations. We’ve categorized it under the Noah Faction; maybe it’s part of it, maybe not."

"Sigh..." Zhang Yuan let out a gentle sigh, feeling rather like a frog being slowly boiled in warm water.

Without becoming a true Level 4 Civilization, you are just a grasshopper capable of only a few leaps, no matter how hard you try, you can only jump so high.

However, making random guesses here is not very meaningful, what’s most important is still the development of oneself. With so many interstellar civilizations, if one isn’t anxious for progress, humans get flustered without having heard a single piece of news.

He shifted more of his attention to the information trading spreadsheet.

...

Soon, under the guidance of the local guide "Cocos-shaped Wart," people found a decent trading partner.

The first to conduct a trade with humans was a Third-level Civilization that pursued brain enhancement technology— the Tos Civilization.

This "Tos Civilization" didn’t need anything else, they were solely after elementary brain enhancement technology, particularly the biomimetic technology of electronic eyes. Coincidentally, humans had knowledge in this area, which made the situation quite wonderful.

In fact, any theory regarding intelligence had always been quite valuable and sought after by the various major interstellar civilizations. This is understandable since the development of all professions requires intelligence, and the higher the intelligence, the better.

But often, intelligence, being such an abstract thing, can only reach the species’ limit through education and cannot break through that limit.

To increase the limit, one has to either resort to the brutal method of selection through reproduction, attempting natural evolution and eliminating less intelligent individuals, or by modifying genes, or through biomimetic technology to transform one’s own brain.

And brain modification is the most rapidly effective method, yet it relies upon a flash of inspiration from genius scientists. This thin skylight, if punctured, can immediately take one to a higher level, making a big leap for civilization. If you can’t break through, you can only stay honestly below.

Not all civilizations are adept at discovering and nurturing those peculiar genius scientists. Albert Einstein, for example, ended up working at the patent office in Switzerland precisely because he couldn’t secure an academic position at a university.

Excavating geniuses from the masses is a very big and extremely difficult problem.

Without a doubt, the Tos Civilization had been stuck for a long time and belongs to the not-so-powerful category among Third-level Civilizations, making it a suitable trading partner for humans.

The negotiation experts on the spaceship came across a good trading partner and immediately began an excited and passionate discussion. Zhang Yuan, not being an expert in this field, found listening in from the side quite insightful.

People were reluctant to sell off their genius scientists’ hard-earned research papers on the cheap, especially concerning human brain modification, that was core technology, and absolutely not something that could be traded away. What if the other side discovered a loophole in the brain support system and invented some sort of electronic virus, it could be a matter concerning the safety of all humanity!

Even if the probability of such an event was very small, humans still had to be cautious.

Of course, trading papers on the mechanisms of intelligence production, neuronal structures, and some about neural networks, neuronal cells and memory, including the brain structures of Low-level Civilizations—these vague contents posed no problem when traded away.

Meanwhile, people also wanted to gain more benefits from the other party.

The other side also had relevant materials in this field, a large part of which was traded from other interstellar civilizations, but these technologies couldn’t be directly applied to themselves.

The brains of every kind of life form differ to a great extent. Unless they had other civilizations tailor-making technology for them, the last step still had to be completed by themselves.

These kinds of second-hand technology would certainly be much cheaper in terms of price.
