Chapter 305: Chapter 304: The Golden Sun, Greetings (Extra for Alliance Hierarch Autumn Cat!) “So we can only use the method of overload… these launch devices might be scrapped, and even if they’re not, they need major repairs before they can be used again.”
“Alright, I understand,” Zhang Yuan heaved a sigh, “This really is burning money, with a high probability of breaking down after just one use… this is just…”
He understood even more the difficulties that the Deep Space Foundation faced in the past, and it was no wonder that for so many years, The Golden Sun and Earth Civilization had not sent signals frequently.
If it wasn’t for something particularly important, who would want to keep burning money like this?
Just to send a greeting and end up crippling oneself would definitely be a fool’s errand.
Therefore, Zhang Yuan also felt that sending one signal to let the other side know of their existence should suffice. If there were any major breakthroughs in the future, only then would they send a second or third signal.
This naturally formed loose Science Alliance, in fact, wasn’t too bad.
“Now, it’s finally our turn to burn money.”
“Everyone is actually very happy to spend this money,” Dr. Li Cheng from the secretariat added from behind.
After the group had prepared for the related matters, they hurried to the meeting place and found it already packed with a sea of people and a buzzing of discussions that shook the heavens, an atmosphere of impatience brewing in the air.
The public exhibited an extremely high enthusiasm for this matter.
Some staff were also collecting blessing messages from the Common people, with the voting process about to conclude.
Zhang Yuan took the stage and spoke directly and to the point, “Ladies and gentlemen, today marks the 30th day until The Kunlun Mountain’s formal departure, a special day…”
Soon after, all the whispering in the venue vanished.
“In 30 days, we will face the final farewell… Approximately eight million people, including myself, are willing to board The Kunlun Mountain and step into the unknown space. What awaits us is an uncertain tomorrow.”
“Another six million people want to continue staying on this Planet, to provide technical support for The Kunlun Mountain while ensuring communication with Earth Civilization and The Golden Sun.”
“These two choices are neither right nor wrong, superior nor inferior. Since we can never know which path leads to light and which to darkness, we can only continue to make choices and learn from our mistakes…”
“… I sincerely hope that both those who are about to journey into the distance and those who stay here will maintain their youth and vigor for a long time to come, staying forever young and full of life just like now.”
Ye Kaifu, listening from below, felt a sourness in his nose; farewells are never a comfortable affair. He had lived here for 105 years, and even the neighboring Glizerians began to feel strangely dear.
Moreover, he had friends here, colleagues, and one might even say comrades-in-arms!
Now they were about to part ways, never to meet again; how could he not feel sad?
But!
Not everyone was willing to embark on another deep-space journey. Taking safety, resources, military, and many other factors into account, no matter how large or advanced The Kunlun Mountain was, it could not compare to a planet. From the standpoint of comfort, The Kunlun Mountain could not compare to the underground bases that have been diligently developed over more than a hundred years.
Most importantly, many people, especially the first generation of astronauts, had gradually lost the ambition to travel afar. That three-thousand-year-long voyage was too painful, too torturous, and with the first generation of colonists now middle-aged, advancing towards old age, their mindset gradually tended toward stability; it wasn’t necessary for the entire population to venture into space.
However, these things should not be forced. Those inclining toward stability and those leaning toward radical change thus formed a fork in the road, giving birth to two completely new civilizations, which was at the core of the New Civilization School’s ideology. The road is made by walking it. Does staying mean certain mediocrity? Not necessarily.
After finishing his speech, Zhang Yuan bowed and stepped down.
Next, a sixty-something-year-old young man took the stage; his name was Zheng Xin, and he was to be the highest Commander of the ground Human Base.
A New Civilization never lacks talent, the absence of one means nothing, and the addition of one is no different. That is a normal, sustainable society.
And with the advancements in technology, plus all the legacy equipment left behind, including five Universal Factories and various advanced devices, six million people could also very well live comfortably, that was beyond doubt.
This young man spelled out the governing philosophy of the entire team that followed, which was, just like The Golden Sun, to slowly develop technology on this planet and greatly lean production resources toward the development of Science.
“… Even if the cost of trial and error becomes higher and the development of Science becomes more difficult, we cannot, and should not, stop.”
“If we stop, we will fall into the trap of laziness and lose all chances of turning things around.”
“We will also become the eternal base for The Kunlun Mountain, a safe and solid base!”
Applause!
But what kind of emotions they actually felt, like drinking water, only the drinker knows the temperature…
The next part involved sending messages to Earth Civilization and to The Golden Sun aboard the Captain Star.
A letter appeared on the big screen and was then read by a dignified and beautiful female host.
“Friends of Earth Civilization and The Golden Sun, greetings. This is from the branch of humanity represented by Earth Era, living on Gliese 581.”
“We are happy to inform you that our civilization has developed well over these years. And soon, we will be divided into two, to form our own sub-civilizations.”
“A spaceship named The Kunlun Mountain will travel down Cosmic String number GB781***78 on its deep-space journey, to make contact with a broader world… Here, we truly thank the branch civilization represented by The Golden Sun for providing the relevant technological support.”
“… We hope through this endeavor to maintain the long-lasting vitality of our civilization; this is also part of the seeding program.”
“The whole process of parting is painful, but we are willing to bear it.”
“Our goals have never changed, and neither has our determination or courage.”
Another round of enthusiastic applause followed.
Then came a recount of some significant events encountered by the new humans over these years, including incidents that occurred during the 3000-year voyage and relevant history about the Glizerians, as well as some cosmic information that humanity had learned.
Of course, because the information sent into the cosmos was public, there was a chance it could be intercepted by Alien Civilizations.
Even if the probability was low, people still took some precautions.
First, they used a lot of conventional idioms, sayings like “Marx’s theory,” “Newton-Leibniz theorem,” and the like, which, without knowledge of human culture and history, would likely lead to misinterpretations if forcibly deciphered.
Second, they obscured certain key points. Some aspects concerning security could only be brushed over; this was unavoidable.
The High-dimensional Fragments and Bozeman Quantum Consciousness Converters possessed by the New Civilization might be treasures of great significance. With treasure comes great responsibility, so this information that might be leaked needed to be hidden.
