Chapter 71: TRAPPED

"I’m Kakashi Yami, third class mage, supernatural" Kakashi received the handshake.

"What do you think about demons?" Rita question surprised Kakashi.

"Umm, I... don’t... really know" Kakashi stammered.

Rita smiled while Kakashi kept staring at her eyes.

_There is no reflection of light in her eyes!_

"Rita, are you done?" Kelvin asked.

"Yes!" Rita nodded and ran to the door. "Come in, I’m going to activate the barrier"

Kakashi and Kelvin walked into the building while Rita stayed at the courtyard and activated the tallisman, a dark energy appeared above the building and slowly slid down till it completely covered the entire school.

"With the barrier on, we won’t need to worry about civilians" Rita remarked, probably satisfied with herself. Kakashi wondered why.

Kakashi made his way into the building’s hallway with Kevin by his side and Rita closely behind them.

_Something’s up, I don’t trust that girl. She’s strange _ Kakashi thought, taking little peek at Rita who quickly noticed but smile each time he looks at her. It made Kakashi feel a little weirder. _Should I tell him?, No, he might be with her in it_

"So..., How are you able to activate a barrier?" Kakashi asked Rita, trying to start a conversation but Kelvin answered instead.

"Demon hunter don’t have karma, so we work with witches to make talisman, ...actually, the Witches makes the talisman for us. There are different types of talisman, each one is used for different techniques. Only the females are thought to use it though"

The hallway seems longer than it should be, the walls were painted with royal blue with windows every two meter apart, the other side of the wall also has windows and doors that led in classroom.

"What are we looking for anyways?" Kakashi asked as he squatted and examined some bloodstains on the ground.

"We’re here to find the demon who’s been killing students and stuffing their bodies in lockers" Kelvin replied again.

"I know, but... How are we going to find the demon? We’re not going to keep walking till we get attacked, are we?" Kakashi stood up. "We should have a solid plan, walking around isn’t going to help"

"I know!" Rita finally spoke up. "Let’s split"

"I don’t think that’s a good idea" Kakashi voiced. "Neither of us know what type of demon resides here, it might be what the demon what is to do"

"Then we should...." Rita tried to suggest another plan but Kelvin interrupted.

"Hey guys, look" Kelvin said pointing at the window, probably talking about what is outside.

Rita turned to the window close to her and looked out, Kakashi also did the same.

"I don’t see anything"

"That’s the point" Kelvin said, he was getting scared by the moment. "The outside world is completely dark, I can’t even see the courtyard"

Kakashi hurriedly tried to open the window but it didn’t budge, then he tried to break it but it didn’t even crack.

"We’re stuck in here" Kakashi announced. "It’s like we’re trapped in a domain"

"B... How is that possible!?, When did the demon activate it?. I didn’t even sense any form of Karma" Rita said.

"Neither did I" Kakashi replied. "It must already been active even before we enter the building, that way we wouldn’t notice the change. I guess it was when you activate your barrier"

"A domain that let you enter but won’t let you out" Kelvin said, looking a little bit calmer now. "It an advance form of karma manipulation. The demon must be a first class"

"Thankfully, the barrier I set up outside will prevent anything inside from going out and also stop anyone who isn’t a supernatural from entering" Rita informed, hoping it will at least help the situation. "Hopefully, if we take too long the academy can send some backup"

"But what if they don’t send someone!?, And we never get to find a way out!?. The demon might want us to starve or force us to live here forever!." Kelvin began to freak out. "Are we going to stay here forever!!??"

"We can’t stay here forever, Kelvin" Kakashi reassured, finally giving hope to the demon hunters.

"We won’t?" Kelvin and Rita asked.

"Of course, we won’t. We’ll die after a few days" Kakashi stated matter-of-factly

"What?!, Do you really need to say that!" Rita said angrily.

"As long as we stay together, we should be fine" Kelvin said.

"I didn’t ask you to be a hunter" Kakashi turned towards the end of the hallway. "I don’t think staying together with help us either. If we want to lure out the demon, then we should go along with Rita’s idea"

"But you said that’s what the demon wants?" Kelvin asked.

"And that’s what it’ll get. Both of you should stick to the ground floor, I’ll head up to the first" Kakashi ordered.

"And we’ll send each other a signal if we encounter the demon" Rita added.

Kakashi nodded and climbed the stairs while Rita and Kelvin went deeper into the darkness.

"Are you sure that was a great idea?" Kelvin asked and opened the door to a classroom.

"What do you mean?" Rita walked to the teacher’s drawer and opened it one by one.

"You might be a upper third class demon hunter but I’m just a lower rank, wha... What if we got attack by a demon, huh?" Kelvin said. "If so many hunters have died before, doesn’t that mean the demon is powerful. Staying together was our best bet"

"You worry too much" Rita smiled. "I’m here incase we run into a demon. Besides, you always say that but when we worked with Yaze, you ran off without me"

"I think you’re right, I’m just gonna... Ahhh!" Kelvin yelled as a demon jumped out of nowhere with it mouth wide open.

In a flash, Rita pulled out her sword and cut of it’s head, the demon fell on Kelvin and slowly disintegrate into ash.

"Wahh!" Kelvin pushed the demon off him.

"See, I’m here" Rita smiled and extended her arm to Kelvin.

"Thanks" He held her hand and pulled himself up.

"Stay alert, there might be more demons"

Kelvin walked towards the window.

"It’s totally black outside, almost in a frightening way. There might be... Ouch!" Kelvin stepped on something and fell down. "Today is definitely not my day"

"Look, isn’t that?..." Rita pointed at the figure on the ground.

"It... It’s a bodies of a demon hunter" Kelvin stood up. "Probably part of the last set of hunters that were sent here"

"There’s a trail of blood leading outside" Rita pointed out. "We should follow it"

Kelvin and Rita ran to the door and opened it only to find their self in another classroom.

"Isn’t there suppose to be..." Kelvin turned back and discover that they were in the school’s gym. "The... The demon is teleporting us to different location in the building"

"I highly doubt that, it’s more like a domain. It’s not teleporting us to different location, we are the ones who have lost our sense of direction"

"That’s why most of the demon hunters died, sending Kakashi on his own was a bad idea" Kelvin opened the door and ran back to the previous room but found himself on the roof.

"It’s no use" Rita said.

Kelvin saw a trail of blood and followed it till he found another body.

His eyes widened with shock as he fell back.

"R... Rita, sh... She’s dead" Kelvin stammered. "If Rita is here, then who is s..."

**cough**

Kelvin coughed out blood as the demon stabbed him from behind with her katana. Kelvin slowly turned his head around to look at the demon, he opened his mouth like he was about to say something before he fell down lifelessly.

"Gotcha!!!" Kakashi yelled and opened a door to an empty classroom. "Not here either"

He had been running after a demon since he got separated from Kelvin and had not seen the demon after he missed a corner.

"This is frustrating!. I’m lost and I can’t even find Kelvin and Rita" Kakashi opened the next door. "And this building is like a maze!"

The room was also empty. Suddenly, he heard a loud crash, follow by growling approaching him. Kakashi quickly ran into the empty classroom and jumped out through the window, scattering the glass in the process and surprisingly landing in another classroom.

"There wasn’t suppose to be a classroom here!" Kakashi looked towards the window which he had broken thought but he couldn’t find it.

It was just a wall, but he could still hear something running down the hallway. He decided to investigate the room he was in but couldn’t find anything useful unless the karma swords which were neatly arranged on the floor.

He picked up two of the swords and opened the exit door and found a staircase leading downstairs right in front of him.

"Mark it right here" Kakashi said as he forced the sword into the door. He looked at the sign above the door and it says ’infirmary’

He quickly took a battle stance, with the second sword on his right hand as soon as he heard the crashing sound.

Something is coming straight for him, breaking it’s way through the wall and from the rumbling he heard, he could easily tell that it was something big, something really big.
