Chapter 93: Ember’s Monsterization (6)

The system was startled by her sudden actions and sent her a panicked message.

[That ring is the only thing connecting me with the Host’s mind, please do not take it off. If you take it off then—]

"Oops,"

Before the system could finish its sentence, Ember removed the ring and threw it to her feet, which caused it to land beside the door and hit the wooden frame with a ’Tack!’ sound.

Ding!

[Disconnecting from the Host’s mind: Est. Time: 30 Secs]

"I guess, I got slipped,"

Ember shrugged and looked at the continuously decreasing timer.

[Host, please put the ring back on.

Est. Time: 25 Secs]

The system begged her to wear the ring, and Ember contemplated for a bit before speaking.

"Hmm, but there are no benefits for me in wearing it,"

Saying it, she began to walk away from the door, and the ring was left alone, lying there on the ground.

[Please, listen to me.

Est. Time: 20 Secs]

"No,"

The girl said and kept walking, and her steps were getting faster.

[At least give me a chance,]

"Sorry, not available,"

The girl shrugged and a mischievous smile was present on her face.

The system kept trying to talk her out of this, but, her pace didn’t slow down, and the system was getting desperate.

After trying its hardest, the system decided to tell Ember about where Nellas was when the counter was just 4 seconds away.

[Alright, I will tell you where your husband is. Please, go back and wear the ring.

Est. Time: 4 Secs]

The screen stayed in front of Ember for 3 seconds at most, before vanishing completely from in front of her.

Now, the system had completely disconnected from her mind and her consciousness.

Just then, Ember turned around and began to walk back to the Nellas’s apartment’s door.

Her one hand was on the wall to sense every door she passed by while her other hand was just hanging on the side, swaying back and forth as she walked.

After passing 2 doors, the girl stopped in front of the 3rd one and her hand reached out and touched the wooden surface.

’This is Nellas’s apartment.’

She said in her heart and bent down, before her hands moved around the ground, trying to find the ring.

"It should be somewhere around here,"

She didn’t know why, but, she could sense the exact place where the Darkest Night ring was.

"There,"

A smile formed on her face as her hands found the ring and she picked it up from the ground.

"Now,"

The girl stood up and just then a screen appeared in front of her, and her eyes landed on it, which read;

[Thank god, you are back.]

"Yeah, but, I will not wear the ring,"

Saying it, the ring was held in front of her face and the girl spoke.

"Not until I get the answer I want,"

And with a smile, she threw the ring across the hallway, and the metal object bounced against the wall.

After hitting the wall, the ring fell on the ground and rolled until it was a meter away from the place where it landed the first time.

Now, the countdown had begun to show the time remaining until the system gets disconnected from her again.

[Est. Time: 29 Secs]

First, the timer appeared, and then after a second, system’s words materialized in front of her.

[Host, I have already agreed to tell you where Nellas is, so, why are you doing this?

Est. Time: 26 Secs]

A small chuckle left Ember’s mouth when she read the system’s words, and she shook her head, before bending her knees and sitting down with her back pressed against the door.

"It’s simple,"

The girl answered and a smile formed on her lips.

"I don’t trust you,"

Her tone was cold and her words were harsh.

"If I wear the ring then you will definitely find a way to lie to me and make me run around in a circle,"

After saying that, the girl didn’t say anything more and closed her eyes.

[Host, I have no intention of lying to you. It was Nellas who was ordering me to hide things from you.]

The system tried to persuade Ember, but, the girl didn’t believe any of it and remained quiet.

She didn’t open her eyes and didn’t bother looking at the timer, her hands were resting on the floor and her legs were crossed.

Soon, the timer reached zero and the system was once again disconnected from her.

Ember didn’t bother opening her eyes and kept sitting there in the same position without moving an inch for a few minutes.

During those minutes, the only sound that could be heard was the constant dripping of water and the sound of the wind blowing past the building.

The silence was so deep and deafening that the sound of Ember’s own heartbeat was also audible.

"Now,"

The girl finally broke the silence and her lips parted as the words escaped her mouth.

"It must have understood the situation,"

Saying it, the girl slowly opened her eyes, and once again began to search for the ring.

It didn’t even take her more than 3 swipes on the floor before she found the Darkest Night ring.

The girl picked the ring up and waited for the system’s response, but, there was none, and a screen didn’t appear.

It was as if the system didn’t want to speak to her and was trying to act tough.

However, Ember didn’t care because she was already prepared for it, and a wide grin was present on her face.

"I thought I could use this method to know where Nell was and go meet him. Since my heart is really yearning to hold him in my arms,"

A slight giggle escaped her mouth, and she continued.

"But, seeing how stubborn the system is, I can’t do it,"

She paused for a moment, before shaking her head and muttering something.

"It is too hard, stopping myself from being drawn back to him even when he just lied to me and left me,"

As she said those words, a single tear dripped from her eyes, and a sad expression appeared on her face.

She was trying to convince the system to tell her where her ’husband’ was.

’No, no, no, don’t fall for her tricks,’

The system was trying its hardest to not listen to her words and not respond to her.

"I just wanted to meet him, to talk to him and hear his voice, his words, and...,"

Ember kept saying words that were filled with sadness, and her tone was now low and sorrowful.

"To feel his embrace, to rest my head against his chest and hear the beating of his heart."

She was speaking while clutching the ring in her hand, and her face was contorted into an expression of great sadness.

"I, I just miss him,"

Those were the last words that left Ember’s lips, and soon, tears welled up in her eyes.

’System, stop! Don’t fall for her act.’

The system was panicking inside and kept telling itself to not give in to the girl’s tricks.

’Damn it, damn it, damn it,’

However, the more it resisted, the guiltier it felt and the system was unable to stop its feelings.

’System, No!!’

After some time of waiting and no response, Ember sighed, and her shoulders drooped down, causing the ring in her hand to move down and her fingers were almost about to lose their grip on it.

It was all an intentional act, she knew if she kept acting then the system would give in, and it was not wrong.

’HOLD ON! NO, NO, NO, WAIT!’

As the ring was about to leave her fingers, the system panicked and sent her a message, causing her hands to stop moving.

[W-wait, I will tell you, I will tell you, just— don’t throw the ring.]

"Oh?"

The girl’s mood instantly brightened and her eyes glistened with a hint of hope, and the corners of her mouth raised.

"Then, I will wear the ring and you will tell me everything,"

The girl spoke and slipped the ring on her finger, just to give the system a bit of confidence and reassurance.

Sensing the ring on her finger, the system was a little relieved and a message popped up in front of the girl, showing its reply.

[As of now, your husband is in a dungeon that is at least 50-60 minutes away from where you are on your feet, and the Dungeon’s name is...]
