Chapter 89: Ember’s Monsterization (2)
[H-how did you know that?]
The system replay was a bit hesitant but it came nevertheless, and a grin surfaced on Ember’s lips.
"So, it is true."
She mumbled under her breath and took a step back.
Her right hand left the sink and her left hand which was bleeding fell to her side.
"Haa... haha..."
Suddenly, a chuckle left her mouth, and her shoulders began to shake.
"HAHAHAHAAAAAA~!"
She laughed loudly, and her laughter was echoing throughout the bathroom.
However, the sound only stayed inside the bathroom, and Marine was completely oblivious to the laughter that was coming from the bathroom.
"Thanks for confirming my suspicion,"
[Huh, wait!? You–]
Before the words of the system could completely register on the screen, Ember’s voice could be heard again.
"Now, I will fucking make him pay for it,"
The tone in which Ember said those words were really cold, and the smile that was on her face was terrifying.
"I will fucking make him suffer the same pain that he made me go through,"
She raised her bloodied hand and placed it in front of her face before closing her eyes and laughing menacingly.
"Hehehehe,"
Everything stayed still as the laughter echoed. The only thing moving was the blood that was dripping down from Ember’s hand toward her elbow.
As for the system, it was going to inform Nellas about it but at that time Nellas was being pinned down by Lunéa’s powers alongside the three Heroes, so, it didn’t have the chance.
"Hahahahaha,"
As Ember’s laughter continued, a sharp, small object came flying toward her from the side.
Shink!
The blade grazed her neck and hit the wall on the other side of the bathroom where it got stuck.
"Ugh,"
Ember opened her eyes, and the laughter in her voice vanished as her lips parted and a painful groan left her mouth.
Her right hand immediately shot toward the bleeding wound on her neck, and her head tilted backward.
She had a look of pain and surprise on her face, and her legs were wobbling as the blood began to gush out of the cut.
’W-what?’
Ember’s mind was confused, and the shock was visible on her face.
It was because she wasn’t expecting that something like that would happen.
’Who?’
Thud!
A few seconds later, Ember fell on the floor with her knees first and her face following right after.
Blood was oozing out of the wound on her neck and her eyes were wide open, while the life inside her was gradually fading away.
"Huff... hu...ff..."
She was struggling, and her mouth was opening and closing like a fish.
She didn’t want to die, and was desperately trying to stay alive, but, it was futile as the blood loss was too high, and her consciousness was fading away.
"Heh, what a weak bitch,"
A cold voice rang in her ears, and a presence could be felt from behind her.
"It wasn’t even hard to sneak into this apartment and kill you. I am a bit disappointed considering whose wife you are."
This person was the one who was sent by Divine Maiden to kill Ember and had come to assassinate her.
He had thrown a small dagger and cut her neck, but, he wasn’t going to leave just like that.
No, he was going to torture her.
Slowly, he approached her, and knelt on the floor before bringing his lips near her ears and whispering,
"I have some good news. Nellas, who you call your husband, is probably dead for real by now."
The hood that was covering the assassin’s face magically fell, and his yellowish, half-eaten teeth were revealed.
"And you know what, you are going to join him,"
He said and raised his hand, before clenching it into a fist.
"Hehehe,"
With a grin, he punched Ember’s face with all the force he could muster.
"Arrg—!"
Ember, who was on the verge of death, was forced to stay awake, and a loud cry of pain could be heard from the bathroom.
However, that wasn’t the only thing that was heard.
Ding~!
Soon, the system’s voice also resounded in Ember’s head.
[Activating Self Regeneration function. Please stay calm, the procedure will hurt a bit.]
"Arrrgg—!"
Another scream escaped her mouth, and the assassin was also confused as to why Ember was screaming.
"Why are you screaming for? We are not even halfway there,"
He was planning on beating her for a long time, and the torture was just getting started.
"Man, I just love messing up a beautiful woman’s face,"
His words were sickening, and Ember’s heart was trembling with anger.
She wanted to do something, she wanted to kill him, and she wanted to break his bones and throw him into a pit full of poisonous snakes.
’You are fucking dead.’
Ember thought, but, her regeneration was taking a bit long, and she wasn’t able to do anything before it was finished.
Thwack!
Another punch landed on her face.
"Arg—!"
The assassin didn’t stop and kept punching Ember until her face became bruised and her eyes swelled up.
"Ahh~, it feels good. Don’t you think?"
The man’s voice was annoying, and Ember was just waiting for her regeneration to be finished.
"Come on, let’s continue, and don’t worry about the other bitch. I have already dealt with her,"
Saying it, the man pulled out a small knife and a disgusting smile formed on his face.
"Let’s start carving, shall we?"
His words were creepy, and he was slowly bringing the knife toward Ember’s back.
However, he didn’t know what he was dealing with.
Ember may have been naive and ignorant about the real world before, but, after realizing the fact that Nellas was playing with her, she vowed to herself that she wouldn’t ever be weak.
No matter what, she would always be the strongest, and would never lose to anyone.
And it wasn’t like she just realized that Nellas wasn’t dead on her own.
No.
Last night, when she was forced to sleep by the system, she found herself in a void filled with nothing except darkness.
In that place was a strange voice which was coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
It was calling her name, and telling her that the person who was playing with her feelings was still alive.
"So, Ember Starlight, as your husband said, you really are reincarnated."
The voice spoke, and Ember’s eyes were wide open as she didn’t know what was happening.
"But, tell me, what are you willing to do in order to get the strength to get revenge on him?"
Those words were enough to ignite the confusion inside Ember, and she opened her mouth and asked.
"Revenge? On whom?"
Her question was simple, and the voice answered.
"Your husband,"
It was the reply.
"He... He is already gone." Ember’s voice was low and filled with sorrow.
"Gone? What are you talking about, Ember Starlight? Your husband is still alive."
Hearing the voice’s reply, Ember’s brows furrowed, and a frown appeared on her face.
"I told you. HE IS GONE!"
Her voice was loud, and the fury inside her was visible in her tone.
"No, he isn’t. I don’t know what he did to you, but, your husband is not dead. He is very much alive and must be hiding the fact from you."
Ember couldn’t believe what she was hearing, and a feeling of doubt formed in her mind.
"N-no, y-you are lying!"
Her hands balled into fists and her teeth were clenched together.
"Well, whatever. If you don’t believe me then let it be. I will just go for now. But, remember I will come back when you recover your memories."
With those words, the voice left, leaving Ember with so many fucking questions in her head.
.....
Ding!
[The Regeneration is finished.]
Right before the assassin’s knife reached Ember’s back, the system announced the end of the regeneration and the wound on her neck had disappeared completely.
Nevertheless, the swelling on her face was still present and didn’t vanish because the system only regenerated her injury and didn’t heal the bruises.
"Now, behold as I carve the word, bitch, on your ba—."
The knife was an inch away from Ember’s back when her left hand shot out and grabbed the assassin’s wrist.
She just sensed the person’s wrist with her own senses because the system wasn’t able to make an outline of the person since he wasn’t in Nellas’ memories.
"What—"
The assassin couldn’t finish his words as Ember tightened her grip and her nails dug into his skin.
"Aargh,"
He let out a painful groan and began to move his body to escape her grasp, but, Ember was not letting him go and tightened her grip on his wrist even more.
"Say goodbye to your wrist," The coldness in Ember’s voice made the man freeze in place, and he wasn’t able to comprehend what was happening.
