Chapter 88: Ember’s Monsterization (1)

Ember was just sitting on her bed without moving an inch.

The food on the side table had already gotten cold but she didn’t even try to touch it.

She probably also hadn’t washed her face ever since waking up.

All she was doing was sitting on the bed while hugging her knees and was not doing anything else.

She didn’t want to do anything.

She didn’t feel like doing anything.

’Time,’

In her absent mind, one word echoed, and as soon as it emerged in her head, a screen appeared in front of her.

[3:12:05 PM]

She read the numbers and decided to keep sitting for another three minutes before her hands moved and let go of her knees.

Slowly, her feet moved to the left side of the bed and touched the floor.

After touching the ground, Ember stood up and her body wobbled a little.

’Ugh—, why is it so hard to stand up?’

She thought and tried to take a step forward but failed as her feet tripped on her own shoe which was lying on the floor.

Thump!

Ember hit the floor with her face and let out a painful groan.

"Ow—, ugh..."

She lifted her face and began to rub the forehead where a red bruise was forming.

’Stupid shoe,’

She cursed in her mind and slowly stood up, making sure that she didn’t trip over the same shoe again.

"Haaa..."

Once she was up, Ember let out a sigh, then bent down and began to roam her hands on the ground to find the shoe that caused her to fall.

After a few seconds of searching, her hands finally grabbed the shoe and picked it up.

She brought it near her face, and a frown appeared on her face.

"Fucking shoe!"

She shouted and threw the shoe against the wall, not caring about it at all.

’Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! Fucking Damn it!’

Her eyes were twitching, and the veins on her forehead were throbbing, indicating that she was really angry.

She had never felt such a strong emotion of anger, and this was the first time she was throwing a tantrum.

But, she didn’t care and was just venting her anger on everything, and the thing she was blaming for all her problems was her shoe.

’I hate you, damn shoe.’

She cursed and clenched her fists, but, then she calmed and let out a small sigh.

"Haaa..."

Soon, her eyes became dull, and her facial expression relaxed.

Her anger was gone and she was back to being an emotionless puppet.

She just stood there for some moments trying to think of the reason why she was so angry at the shoe.

’Why am I getting angry at the shoe? It isn’t the shoe’s fault.’

Ember came to a conclusion after a few seconds and then turned around to go to the bathroom to wash her face.

However, before she could walk, the sound of the door of the room opening made her stop in her tracks.

"Ember?"

The person who entered the room and was now looking at Ember was Marine.

She noticed that Ember still hadn’t washed her face and her hair was not combed, so instinctively, she moved her eyes to look at the food that was served on the table.

The food was untouched, and it didn’t even look like someone had even tried to touch the tray.

Seeing it, Marine’s brow knitted together and a frown appeared on her face.

’She sleeps for too long. And don’t even eat much.’

The woman thought, and the corner of her lips twitched.

’Should I just shove the food down her throat?’

It wasn’t a joke, she was serious.

Marine wanted to force Ember to eat and had even planned how she would do it, and was going to put her plan into action right now.

However, when she looked back at Ember she contained herself from doing so.

Because, the latter was just that much of a mess, that it didn’t even seem right to do it.

’Forget it,’

Marine thought and let out a soft sigh before walking toward Ember.

"Come, you haven’t even washed your face yet."

She reached out and grabbed Ember’s wrist before pulling her toward the bathroom.

Ember didn’t resist, and just let the woman drag her across the room.

Her eyes were still empty, and she didn’t have the motivation to say anything.

After reaching the bathroom, Marine opened the door and looked at Ember before speaking, "Go and wash your face. I will go and cook some new food for you."

With that, the woman let go of Ember’s hand and walked away, leaving her alone in the bathroom.

Ember just stood there for a few seconds before opening her mouth and saying, "System,"

Ding~!

[Creating outlines of the bathroom inside Host’s vision... Complete.]

As soon as the system announced its task completion, the blue outlines of the things around Ember began to appear in her vision.

It wasn’t only inside her mind but the outside of her eyes, the green irises were also covered in blue lines.

If a person stood in front of her and looked at her eyes then they would think that her irises were glowing.

[Host, you can now move and see the objects around you with outlines and their names. But, be careful. I can’t keep this up more than 10 minutes.]

The system’s words were true, and the reason for it was because the outline of an object required the system to use its power and analyze the object’s structure, size, length, width, etc from Nell’s brain.

And then creating a 3D image of the objects, walls, and floorboards in Ember’s vision.

Which was not that easy and consumed a lot of the system’s electric power.

[As you can see at the top right of your vision. There is a bar with percentages on it. That’s the amount of my remaining power. If the number gets close to 10 then the outline will vanish and you will not be able to see them anymore.]

The system continued to explain, and Ember just listened.

She didn’t say anything and just kept her mouth shut and eyes straight.

The system didn’t like her silence and wanted to say something but it held itself back and kept quiet.

However, the silence couldn’t be kept for too long as Ember finally opened her mouth and said,

"System,"

Hearing it, the system, who already wanted to hear from her, replied as quickly as it could,

[Yes, Host?]

"Why did you create the outline?"

Her question was short and straight, and the system was a bit surprised considering the next words it said.

[Huh? Because you wanted to, didn’t you?]

"I never told you to."

Ember’s voice was low, and the tone of it was sharp.

She was not angry or annoyed, she was just stating the fact and was asking a question.

"I just called you to ask something."

Saying it, the girl moved her body and slowly took steps toward the sink.

The system was confused and was trying to understand the situation, but, the words that Ember spoke next made it freeze in its non-existent place.

"So, I will ask only once. Why did you do it?"

Ember grabbed the edge of the sink and leaned forward, before looking at the mirror which was showing nothing.

[What did I do?]

"Don’t act stupid. You know what you did."

The girl’s grip on the edge of the sink tightened, and her face contorted into a frown.

"Why the fuck you hid the fact that Nellas wasn’t dead?"

She was now angry, and the veins on her forehead were throbbing.

The reason for her anger wasn’t only the system’s decision to hide the fact that Nellas was still alive.

She was also angry at herself because she didn’t know anything and was oblivious to everything that happened in the past few days.

She didn’t know how her husband was alive and she didn’t even know what was happening in the world.

She felt stupid being played by the person she trusted, loved, and cared about.

"Are you gonna just keep your screen shut or do you want me to ask again?!"

Ember’s eyes were glowing with bright blue lines, and the anger inside her was bubbling.

"You fucking piece of shit, say something!"

She slammed her fist against the mirror, and the sound of glass shattering could be heard.

"Answer me, why did he do it?"

The mirror had a small crack in the middle, and the blood from Ember’s fist was trickling down.

"Why did he play with me?"
