Chapter 76: A Moment’s Respite

"Y-you ripped him apart?" Lunéa was shocked and her voice was also a bit louder than before.

She couldn’t believe that a human, a weak and fragile one, was capable of ripping apart a werewolf.

It was not possible.

Or, at least she thought it was not possible.

But it looked like the guy had done it.

He had done it.

Lunéa couldn’t believe it.

Is this the same guy who was struggling to fight with the Ultra Sonic Vampire Bats a few moments ago?

And now, he was able to fight and defeat a Lycan who was at least 50% stronger than a normal vampire, by ripping him apart?

It was not possible.

But the werewolf’s corpse was lying on the ground.

The proof was there.

But how could this man have won against a creature that was at least 50% stronger than a normal vampire?

How?!

He couldn’t even defeat a normal vampire when the Vampire God had sent five of them to get him.

It seemed there was more to the man than what meets the eye.

Lunéa didn’t know what to say.

And after staying silent for a few moments, the woman, with her gaze fixated on the man’s face, spoke.

"Okay, I will ask you something and I want you to answer truthfully."

The shadow stated and the man, who was expecting her question, nodded his head as he said, "Sure."

Then, after a momentary silence, Lunéa’s cold voice reached his ears.

"Did you eat the Lycan?"

Her words were blunt, and the man’s body froze as his heart began to beat faster.

The woman had noticed that the werewolf had been eaten by him.

After all, the bite marks on its body and the missing flesh were clear evidence.

Nellas gulped and tried his best not to show his nervousness.

However, the shadow was able to see through his facade and knew the truth.

Well, she was aware of it even before she asked the question.

Because the whole dungeon was under her and Vampire God’s control. Therefore, she knew that there was no other monster besides the lycan around this area.

So there was only one possibility.

’The human ate the Lycan.’

She was sure.

And a moment later, her words, which were filled with suspicion and doubt, were heard again.

"You ate him, didn’t you?"

Nellas didn’t move or do anything as a small, barely audible sigh left his lips.

He couldn’t believe he had been discovered.

He had hoped that the woman wouldn’t realize the truth and let it slide.

However, it seemed like he was wrong.

Very, very, very wrong.

Nevertheless, he wasn’t going to hide his actions anymore.

"Yeah, I ate him."

He confessed, however, he still tried to justify himself and continued.

"Just a little bit. Like, a tiny bit."

His tone was a bit awkward, and the shadow, who was looking at him with a cold stare, snorted before a sigh escaped her mouth.

"A little bit? Look at him. He is missing a huge chunk of his body."

Her voice was a bit annoyed, and Nellas couldn’t help but gulp.

"Sorry."

A small apology escaped his lips, and the woman sighed again as she shook her head.

"Tch. Anyway, the 2nd trial is over. You have successfully killed the Lycan."

Her words were straightforward, and she didn’t wait for an answer as her shadowy figure began to disappear again.

"For the third trial, we will meet on the 2nd floor after 5 days."

She said, and the next moment her shadowy figure vanished.

Leaving the man alone who stayed still for a moment and waited until the woman completely disappeared before letting a small groan escape his mouth.

"Fuuu... that was close."

He was a bit tense and didn’t even realize that he had been holding his breath.

Moreover, he also didn’t notice the change in his behavior around Lunéa.

He was not acting like himself and was trying his best to not anger the woman.

Which was a bit strange.

However, he didn’t realize that.

Its reason was Lunéa’s powers which can make every creature, be it a vampire, a zombie, or a human, nervous and tense.

It was her ability and it had already worked on Nellas.

But, not completely.

Because Nellas’ system had already made more than half the effect of the woman’s powers ineffective.

It wasn’t like it did it knowingly. No, the system’s appearance itself was an antidote to any and every kind of negative power, curse, or spell that could affect Nell in harmful ways.

The system would always protect the host from such things.

It didn’t matter if the host wanted it or not.

"Hmm, so that means the 3rd trial will take place on the 2nd floor? Interesting."

Saying that the man couldn’t help but smile.

Not because the 3rd trial was going to take place on the 2nd floor.

But, the reason was, that the 3rd trial was going to happen in 5 days, and Nellas could explore the 1st floor till then.

Which was good for him.

However, before he can go and do what he wants to do, he needs to check something and that is...

"System, how is Ember?"

His words came out of his mouth and a screen appeared in front of his eyes a few moments later.

[Host, your wife hadn’t slept after midnight when she suddenly woke up. She has been just sitting on the bed for the last few hours.]

The man’s eyes narrowed as he read the words in front of him.

It seemed like something was happening to Ember and it made a small aching sensation to surface in Nellas’ heart.

"What—!? what happened? Why hasn’t she slept since then? Is she feeling sick? Did something bad happen?"

His quick words were filled with worry, and the system, which was listening to his questions, immediately answered.

It knew that the man was worried about his wife, so, it didn’t want the man to panic and hurriedly gave him a reply.

[No, Host, nothing bad has happened. In fact, it’s good. Very, very, very good.]

"What?"

The man’s eyebrows rose and a confused frown appeared on his forehead as a question left his lips.

"Good? What do you mean good?"

[Didn’t you want her to be strong-minded? That is what is happening right now. She is in the process of changing and strengthening her mind. This process can go on for hours, maybe even days, so don’t worry. The host’s wife will be fine.]

The system’s words were straightforward, and Nellas’ eyes widened a bit as the system’s message processed in his mind.

"No, that doesn’t mean I am okay with her not sleeping. How can she stay awake for half the night? It’s not healthy."

The man’s worries didn’t fade. Instead, they increased.

He may have wanted her to become strong.

However, not like this.

Not by losing her sleep.

That was not what the man had expected.

He wanted her to grow mentally.

To become someone who can look after herself.

But not by giving up her health.

That was not what he wanted.

"System, can you force her into slumber?"

His words were serious, and he didn’t hesitate to ask the system the question.

Cause, he needed his wife to sleep.

He was not going to leave her in such a state.

Not now when she is still very weak and can’t handle it.

"System!"

The man was worried, and his voice was a bit urgent as he waited for the system’s reply.

[I can. But please think twice before forcing your wife into slumber. I mean ’force her’. Because if the Host orders me to do so, I will have to do it without any hesitation.]

"Then, do it!"

The man didn’t waste a second and ordered the system.

He didn’t even consider his own words and immediately commanded the system.

Because it didn’t matter if the system had to force his wife to sleep. It was only going to help her and Nellas was sure about it.

Cause, he knew what would happen if one didn’t get enough sleep in the early days of their training.

It would be hard to continue and they would suffer in the long run.

Which was not good.

"Force her to sleep and give her plenty of rest. At least for 8 hours."

He ordered, and the next moment the system’s screen changed.

Ding!

The man was waiting for the system’s message, and his body relaxed after seeing the message.

He didn’t move his gaze away from the screen and kept on looking at the words for a few moments until the screen vanished.

Only after that, did his gaze move to look at the direction where the exit/entrance of the dungeon was.

"Rest well."

His words were soft, filled with affection, and were also a bit sad.
