Dark Evolution Begins with Marrying an SSS-CLASS Blind Monster -
Chapter 72: The First Trial
Chapter 72: The First Trial
Back inside the dungeon, Nellas, being led by the mysterious shadow, was walking deeper inside the forest.
The way was illuminated by strange light and trees were bent to the sides to make a path.
The shadow, which was leading the guy, was quiet and didn’t speak.
However, the guy couldn’t help but ask the woman.
"Ahem, if you don’t mind can you at least tell me your name?"
Nellas didn’t know her name, and, after asking her, the man couldn’t help but expect an answer.
Yet, the shadow, without turning back, didn’t say anything.
"I see. So your name is ’no turning back’?"
Nellas joked and chuckled a bit.
He was a bit awkward, and his tone was a bit weird.
Nevertheless, the woman didn’t reply, and the guy shrugged as he followed behind her.
The two walked for a few more minutes and the trees were slowly disappearing as the area around them was getting larger.
Soon, the ground changed, and a flat land was visible in the distance.
There was a huge tree and a big lake with crystal clear water.
’Hmmm...’
As the two reached the lake, Nellas, who had been quiet for a few moments, couldn’t help but stare at the view before him.
The scenery was beautiful and the man, who was a bit curious, asked.
"What are we doing here?"
However, the guy didn’t get an answer and a frown appeared on his forehead as the woman kept her silence.
’Still keeping your mouth shut, huh?’
The man couldn’t help but be a bit annoyed.
’Tsk, she is not even a human. What is she trying to hide?’
He clicked his tongue and stared at the back of the shadow, which was a few steps ahead of him.
"Participant Hero,"
The voice suddenly broke the silence and interrupted Nellas’ thoughts which widened his eyes.
"Please pull that sword out from that."
The woman pointed at the huge tree and the man, who followed her gesture, couldn’t help but narrow his brows.
A silver sword with a golden hilt was piercing the bark of the tree, and it was visible even from the distance.
’That’s a pretty big tree.’
The man thought and a small sigh left his mouth as he took a step forward and headed towards the tree.
’Is this the game where I have to pull that sword out of the tree? Like the one I watched in the movie; whoever gets to pull that sword out will become the next owner of the kingdom?’
The man was thinking and, after a few moments, he stopped a few feet away from the tree.
Then, his eyes focused on the sword and its golden hilt.
’Well, this is not the time to wonder.’
His thoughts stopped and he didn’t wait as his hands stretched and reached the hilt.
Then, he grabbed it by wrapping his all ten fingers around it.
He thought that he would need to use all of his strength to pull the sword out, but, he was wrong.
In fact, it was the opposite.
It was too easy, and as his hands tightened their grip on the sword, the next thing the man knew was the sword being pulled out easily and his feet taking a step back to maintain the balance.
The man was a bit surprised, and a small "Oh," left his mouth as his head tilted a bit and he looked at the weapon he was holding.
It was just a normal sword.
There was nothing special about it, and even if it had anything special about it then the system would have already notified him.
Which didn’t happen.
So, the guy concluded that the sword was not a special weapon and his hands moved as his fingers touched the blade.
’This is a pretty normal sword.’
Nellas thought and turned around to look at the ’always shut up’ woman.
"Now, what?"
He asked and raised his brow as the woman’s mouth finally opened and words were said.
"The first trial."
She replied and the man raised his brow even more.
"What trial? The pulling the sword out of the tree is a trial?"
The man questioned, and a moment later, a sigh escaped the woman’s mouth.
"No, that was not the trial."
She explained, and Nellas, who was feeling confused, frowned as the next words that reached his ears made his blood go cold.
"The first trial is the battle between the participant Hero and 100 Ultra Sonic Vampire Bats."
"Wait, what?!"
Nellas wasn’t just a bit shocked.
He was totally flabbergasted.
And, his face showed his emotions very clearly.
The Ultra Sonic Vampire Bats were strong monsters and they were the 100th-ranked monsters in the ranking of the most powerful creatures of the dungeon in his past life.
They would always use their natural sonar to attack their enemies, and, once attacked, the victims would be disoriented and unable to defend themselves.
Then, the bats would swarm around their target and tear the target into pieces.
It was a cruel way to die and, in some cases, it would be hard to distinguish the corpse of the victim from their flesh.
Not only that, if there is a big group of these bats, then even the S-class Heroes wouldn’t come out without missing one or two limbs.
And, now, he had to fight them.
One. Hundred.
By himself?
Yeah, that’s right.
100 of these monsters, which were known for their cruelty and bloodthirstiness.
Alone.
It was impossible.
There was no way he could do that.
And the worst part was, that, the woman didn’t even give him time to prepare himself, as her next words came without a moment’s delay.
"Okay. Good luck surviving."
The woman’s shadowy form began to disappear and soon she vanished from the place.
Not waiting for a second.
Leaving him all alone.
"Hey, wait!"
Nellas shouted, however, no response came, and the guy, who was left alone, let a small "Fuck," escape his lips.
’This is going to be bad.’
He didn’t need to look around to know that the bats were coming.
The sounds of their wings flapping were audible and their screeches were echoing in the surroundings.
"I am fucked."
The guy cursed again.
Then, he took a deep breath and looked at the sword in his hands.
"How am I supposed to fight them with this sword?"
He spoke and as if in response the shadowy figure’s voice echoed in his ears.
"I forgot to tell you that this sword can transform into anything you want."
Her words were a bit surprising, but the man, who didn’t have much time to think, couldn’t help but shout, "What?! Then, why didn’t you say it earlier!"
He was pissed and, without waiting for an answer, his thoughts traveled to the sword in his hands and the next moment, the sword began to change its shape.
It transformed and, a second later, a bow was formed.
"Huh, so, I just need to think and the sword will change."
The guy muttered and an arrow materialized on his left which was levitating midair.
"Nice."
He said and a smirk was visible on his lips as he grabbed the arrow and put it on the bow.
Then, without hesitation, he looked up, trying to aim at the bats which were getting closer.
These bats were red in color. They had sharp teeth and claws and black, pupilless eyes.
Their size was bigger than a normal bat, and, with their wings flapping their speed was incredible.
They were fast and were approaching him like a storm.
’There is a lot of them. It is better to stay on guard and kill as many of them as possible before they get close to me.’
He had no time to think about his strategy, and he didn’t waste another moment as he released the arrow.
Whoosh!
The sound of the arrow going through the air could be heard, and a few moments later, the first bat was hit.
The arrow pierced the bat’s body and the creature couldn’t even utter a screech before its body hit the ground.
As for the arrow, it continued its journey and went through another body before it vanished and appeared right next to Nellas, who grabbed it and then put it on his bow.
Whoosh!
A second arrow flew and was followed by a third one, a fourth one, and so on.
The same arrow was flying over and over again, and the bats were falling, however, their numbers were big.
And, the man, who had to wait for the arrow to come back, couldn’t fire the arrows consecutively and thus couldn’t kill the bats quickly.
He could only kill less than 15 bats.
And the rest were closing the distance.
Soon, the bats were hovering above his head, and the man, who was trying to aim at the bats, couldn’t move as a loud screech pierced his ears.
"ARGH!"
