Chapter 57: Candidate Ember

After a few minutes of waiting for Marine to come, Ember’s ears caught the sound of the door being opened, and footsteps could be heard as someone entered the room.

’Is she back?’

Thinking that, Ember raised her head and opened her eyes, before her head moved a bit to the side where the sound of the final footstep was heard.

"Ember, come. It is your turn."

Hearing Marine’s voice, the girl stood up from her chair and as soon as she did, a hand came and grabbed her wrist.

"Here, let me guide you."

Marine spoke, and the next moment Ember’s ears picked up some shouts.

"Hey, what do you think you are doing?"

It was a boy’s voice and Ember could feel the anger and annoyance in it, which made her frown, but, she didn’t say anything and just let the angry voice continue.

"We have waited for hours and she gets her turn right after entering? Do you know how unfair this is?"

"Yeah, we were the first ones to come. So, why does she get her turn before us?"

"What is wrong with this guild? Is it because she is a beautiful woman?"

Many shouts were heard, and the girl could feel the hatred in their voices.

Nonetheless, it didn’t make her angry or sad, instead, she just stayed calm and didn’t say a word.

Marine, on the other hand, was a bit angry and her brows scrunched up.

"You guys, do you–"

She was about to say something, but, her words were interrupted by Ember, who said, "Let’s go, Marine. Don’t bother yourself with them. Let’s just take the test and leave."

The woman paused for a moment, but looking at the Ember’s face, she couldn’t help but sigh, before continuing.

"Alright, let’s go."

With that, the two of them began to walk, but Ember, who was walking a bit slower, stopped suddenly, which made Marine stop too.

"Is there a problem?"

Marine looked back at Ember, and the girl nodded her head.

"Can I walk on my own? I want to do it on my own." Ember asked.

"Are you sure? Don’t worry, I can guide you."

Marine tried to help her, but the girl replied, "No. I will walk by myself."

A small sigh left Marine’s mouth, and she was about to reply, but the girl continued, "You can guide me from behind, but don’t hold my hand. I want to do it by myself. Please."

The girl begged and Marine was a bit shocked before nodding her head.

"Okay, I understand. But, be careful. And don’t worry, I will stay beside you."

Marine gave in and let go of the girl’s wrist, before moving back a bit.

"Alright, thank you."

Ember thanked and with that, the two of them were going to walk out of the room, but the words spoken by other candidates made Ember pause again.

"Huh? Is she blind?"

"Yeah, it seems like it. It’s a shame, such a beautiful girl, but she is blind."

"What a pity."

"Well, maybe, that’s why the guild wants her to take the test before us because they know that she will fail. Hahaha."

"That’s true. So, don’t mind her."

They were talking amongst themselves and weren’t even considering her feelings.

But, not all one them were like that. There was one candidate who wasn’t able to stay silent, and seeing how the other candidates were treating Ember, he decided to say something.

"Hey," While sitting on his chair, Ryan called out to the others, "If you guys don’t wanna get beaten up, then don’t mess with her."

He warned them and continued, "She might be blind, but she can still hear you guys. And, if you want to become a Hero, you shouldn’t treat others like this. So, shut the fuck up."

Saying that the guy leaned back on the chair and placed his right leg on his left one.

"Oh, what’s that? You are gonna beat us up? If so, then you are a fucking idiot."

"Yeah, you are really brave."

"You want to fight?"

The candidates mocked him, but the man didn’t get angry instead, a smile appeared on his face before he looked at them.

"No, you got it all wrong. I am not gonna fight you, but completely destroy you."

Hearing the man’s words, the other candidates burst into laughter, but a moment later, their laughs stopped, and a loud ’Crackling’ sound resonated through the room.

Instantly, small balls of electricity appeared in front of every candidate and their faces paled as they couldn’t even move because of the fear they were feeling.

"Y-you..."

The candidates were shocked and couldn’t utter a word, while Ryan was sitting calmly and didn’t seem nervous at all.

"Now, listen, if you say anything bad about Emb–, I mean, about the girl again, then, I will make sure you all become vegetables."

Ryan threatened them and a few seconds later the electricity balls vanished.

"Now, shut up and keep waiting, pathetic worms."

Ryan mocked them and the candidates’ bodies shivered a bit before their lips sealed and they didn’t utter another word.

They didn’t dare to do anything and didn’t even dare to speak.

Meanwhile, Ryan was calm, and with his hand under his chin, he was deep in thought, ’I hope she doesn’t get much hurt while taking the test. If she uses Darkest Night ring’s power efficiently, then, she can pass.’

The thought of the girl caused a smile to bloom on his face, and he couldn’t wait to see the test she would give.

’I wonder, how good will her score be. I hope she gets a high one, hahaha.’

As for Ember, she just stood there silently, and the sound of electricity balls, as well as the candidates’ fear, was very clear to her, but she didn’t react, and just listened, which made her realize that the guy, who was helping her, was a bit weird.

Nevertheless, she didn’t pay much attention and began to walk out of the room.

"Let’s go Marine."

Acknowledging the girl’s words, Marine began to follow her.

"Next candidate Ember, number unknown, please come to the testing area. Your turn has come."

The announcer’s voice resounded inside the waiting room, declaring that the girl was the next candidate to take the test.
