Chapter 38: The Silver Spiked Tortoise
Chapter 38: The Silver Spiked Tortoise
The air was cold and the ice beneath his feet was hard.
Nevertheless, Nellas didn’t mind and simply continued walking forward.
Following behind him were his three teammates and their weapons were held firmly in their hands.
"Is it far?" Danny asked, his eyes scanning the snow-covered environment.
"Hmm, a few more minutes," Nellas replied, and suddenly, his steps came to a halt.
’Shit,’ a curse slipped past his lips, and a frown formed on his face.
Quickly, he turned his head and looked at the group, "He is here," he said, and without waiting for the others to ask, he explained, "The boss monster, it’s here."
"What? It’s here?" Ron also turned around to see behind himself, and the other two followed his example.
However, there was nothing behind them except for the white powder and the trees covered with it.
"Where?" Rachel’s brows furrowed together, and her body was tense as she was ready to fight.
"I don’t know. But my instincts are telling me that it’s close," Nellas replied.
"Your instincts? Haha, nice joke," Danny let out a laugh, and his grip on the daggers loosened a bit.
For a few seconds, Nell remained silent and closed his eyes.
"3... 2... 1..."
The moment the numbers left his lips, a roar echoed throughout the forest.
"See, it’s here," he said and opened his eyes.
Thump!!!
Thump!!!
The ground began to tremble, and the leaves on the trees rustled, while a strong wind began to blow, causing the snow and the powder to swirl around.
"Tsk, what is it now?" Danny muttered, and his weapons were raised in front of his body, ready to attack the monster.
"It is a tortoise, a big tortoise," Nellas replied and looked at the group. "Don’t let its shell fool you. It is not slow. In fact, it’s the fastest boss monster in this dungeon. So, watch out for its attack."
Rachel and Danny nodded, and their eyes landed on the path in front of them, where the thumps were coming from.
Suddenly, a shadow was cast upon them, and a loud swoosh sound reached their ears, which was accompanied by the sounds of breaking trees.
"F*ck, what the hell?"
Ron’s jaw fell, and he took a step back.
His eyes were wide and his lips were parted, while his body was shaking.
A giant turtle was emerging from the forest, and its body was as large as a two-story building.
The turtle was green, and its body was covered with scales.
It had four legs, which were covered with sharp, silver spikes, and its mouth had rows and rows of teeth.
Its eyes were red, and a pair of horns was protruding from its head.
"So, this is the boss monster," Rachel muttered, as her grip on the scythe tightened, and the flames around it grew stronger.
"Tsk," meanwhile, Danny gritted his teeth, and the daggers in his hands trembled slightly, "Why does it look so f*cking scary?"
Even Nellas was shocked by the monster’s appearance, and his gaze was focused on the creature’s silver spikes, which were glinting in the light, and looked quite deadly.
"This is bad,"
"What’s bad? What is wrong?"
Ron’s question was directed at Nellas. His heart was beating fast and the fear in his eyes was even greater than before.
"Something is wrong. It isn’t supposed to be this big. It was supposed to be 15ft, and its spikes were not supposed to be like this,"
Nellas explained, and his hands trembling as he thought of a way out.
"Wait, what? It wasn’t supposed to be this big?"
Ron couldn’t believe what he was hearing, and his tone was filled with panic and confusion.
"Shit," Nellas cursed, and he couldn’t help but take a few steps back, as the turtle was getting closer and closer.
"Keep it busy and try not to get killed. I will be back in a moment."
He didn’t waste any time and after his words were finished, he turned around and dashed into the forest.
"Hey, come back, you b*stard!"
Danny roared, and his gaze landed on the fleeing figure, while his fists were clenched tightly.
"Shit, damn it, damn it!"
"It’s okay. He must have his reasons," Rachel placed her hand on his shoulder, and her eyes were looking at the giant monster, which was slowly getting closer.
"I believe he will come back," she continued, and a small smile surfaced on her lips.
"Huh?" Danny looked at Rachel and then back at the fleeing figure. His hands lowered a bit, as the anger within him subsided a little, instead, a sense of disappointment filled his mind.
’Rachel believes in him? She just met him, and she is willing to trust him this much?’
He didn’t know why, but the thought caused him to feel a bit envious, and his chest tightened.
"Let’s do this, alright?" Rachel spoke, and her words snapped Danny out of his thoughts.
Having his thoughts settled, he once again raised the daggers, and his feet moved, causing the snow to fly into the air.
"Let’s do this!"
A cry escaped his lips, and he dashed forward, followed by Rachel, who had the same expression on her face.
"Ahhh, what am I supposed to do now? Heal who? Heal them or him?"
Ron looked at Danny and Rachel who were running toward the giant turtle, and his face was filled with uncertainty and fear.
He was scared and the feeling of wanting to run away was getting stronger and stronger.
Nevertheless, he kept standing there, and his feet remained unmoving, and the reason for that was Rachel.
"Why did I awaken a healer’s power?"
He asked himself, and a loud sigh escaped his lips, as he remembered how, after his sister had been given the power, the same thing had happened to him.
He couldn’t use magic or any other skills, except healing, and the power he possessed was enough to heal minor injuries, like bruises and scratches.
’I shouldn’t be here. I don’t belong here.’
Just when he was about to turn around and run away, Rachel’s voice echoed in his mind.
"Ron, get to somewhere safe, and wait for us to come back."
Even while fighting a monster that was out of her league, she still remembered her brother and wanted to make sure that he was safe.
Ron gritted his teeth and clenched his hands, while the tears in his eyes were about to fall.
’I can’t leave. If I do, my sister will die.’
After a few moments, he wiped the tears away and the fear within him disappeared.
He then raised his head and looked at the two figures who were leaping from here to there, trying to get a hit on the giant turtle.
"I... I... I am not useless!"
