Chapter 37: What is Nellas’ Plan?

Second Floor...

"Seriously, why did you run away?"

A frown was present on Danny’s face, and, the vein on his forehead was bulging.

He was angry, and, his eyes were staring daggers at Ron.

"B-but,"

Ron didn’t have an answer to his question, and, instead of replying, he could only lower his head, and, let out a long sigh.

After gazing at the ground beneath him for a while, he lifted his head and looked back at Danny, "I am a healer. So, I shouldn’t fight monsters, right?"

His response was weak, and, his voice was shaking, as he was afraid of his friend’s wrath.

However, even though the answer was a bit lacking, Danny didn’t say anything, and, only shook his head in disappointment.

"Tsk,"

After a few seconds of silence, Danny began to walk forward.

But, just as he was about to leave, he glanced back at Ron one last time.

"Let’s go," He said, and his face softened, as he saw Ron’s pitiful expression.

"Yes," Ron nodded his head and quickly caught up with his friend, and the two of them walked in silence.

The dungeon’s second floor was a bit different from the first one.

Just like the first floor, the second floor was also covered with trees, bushes, and grass, however, instead of a shining sun and scorching heat, the second floor had a cool breeze, and the ground was covered by ice.

In short, the second floor was a snowy forest, with ice covering the ground and the trees, and a white, snow-like powder falling from the sky.

As the powder touched the ground, it formed a layer of ice and soon, the ice crystals spread all over the ground.

"Where did they go?"

Ron asked and immediately, his breath formed a small cloud of mist, which slowly floated up, and disappeared into the air.

"There," Danny pointed in the direction where Nell and Rachel had gone, and soon after, the two of them followed the duo’s footsteps.

’They are going to the end of the floor. Why?’ Danny thought.

Before coming to the second floor, Nellas had talked to Rachel in private, saying that there was something important they needed to talk about.

At first, she didn’t want to listen, but, eventually, she relented and agreed to listen to what he had to say.

"Alright, I am listening."

Nellas had a confident smile on his face, and his eyes were shining with determination.

"I think we should try and gain as much experience and items as possible on the second floor."

His words made Rachel tilt her head, and, a confused expression surfaced on her face.

"You already know that we aren’t here to gain experience and items. So, what’s the point?"

"I know, but, there is a reason why I am suggesting this."

Nellas glanced at Ron and Danny, who were standing far away from them.

"There, on the second floor, is an item that can save your brother, and, if he has the item, he will surely be able to live long enough to reach old age." He explained, and his eyes once again met hers.

Rachel was surprised. She didn’t know what to say, but somehow these words began to form in her mouth, "H-how did you-"

"Doesn’t matter," Nellas interrupted her and then continued, "I have my ways. The important thing is, do you want to save your brother?"

Hearing his words, Rachel couldn’t help, but, feel a sense of danger.

"Who are you?"

Her tone was serious, and, the words that left her mouth had a hint of caution.

Nevertheless, her words didn’t bother Nellas, and, a small smile surfaced on his lips.

"Just a normal Hero," He shrugged, "Who wants to do some good things, and gain happiness by helping others,"

He answered, and, the words that left his lips were enough to make Rachel’s heart skip a beat.

’Good deeds and help others?’

As soon as the words entered her ears, a scene of the past, where a boy who looked quite like the person in front of her, had saved her from bullies in her class and had given her hope, resurfaced in her mind.

The memories were blurry, and, she couldn’t remember what he looked like, or what happened afterward, however, the boy’s words were clear.

’Don’t worry, you are safe now.’

’What are you doing here? You shouldn’t be here. It’s not safe.’

’Here, have this chocolate. I found it while searching for my way out. It’s my gift for you. I hope you like it.’

His voice and the events were vivid, and, as they surfaced in her mind, the beating of her heart became a bit faster and her face flushed red.

"Are you... Him?" She murmured, her voice was barely a whisper against the cold wind, and her eyes were focused on Nellas’ figure, as she tried to search for similarities between him and the boy.

However, the more she stared at his face, the harder it became for her, and in the end, her head shook, and her eyes looked away.

’No, that’s impossible. We met a long time ago, and the only thing I remember about him was his voice. There is no way, it’s him,’

As soon as the thoughts crossed her mind, a sigh escaped her lips, and she raised her head, her gaze meeting his.

She didn’t have time to reminisce about the past, as her brother was the one who was more important at the moment.

"You better not lie, because if you are, I will kill you," She said, and, a frown was visible on her face.

’This man is hiding something from me, and, I don’t trust him one bit.’

The words that had left her lips were a warning and even though Nellas heard them, he didn’t show any reaction and simply smiled at her.

"Don’t worry, I am not,"

Saying that his hands landed on her shoulders, and he gave them a slight squeeze.

"I promise, your brother will live and will not suffer from his illness anymore."

As soon as he said those words, a sense of relief washed over Rachel’s body.

She could tell that his words were genuine, and they weren’t lies, but, the thought that he was hiding something still bothered her.

"Then, lead the way,"

She said and a faint smile formed on her lips.

"Alright,"

Nellas nodded and a satisfied expression was present on his face as he had completed the first step of his plan.
