Chapter 143: Unseen Watcher
At night, inside the Scarlet Rose Inn.
Alisa was sitting alone on the bed. She couldn’t fall asleep, and the reason was...
’I wonder what you are doing master?’
She had been thinking about her master the whole time, imagining his gentle touch and his soothing voice. The thought of being reunited with him sent a rush of warmth and anticipation through her, and her heart fluttered at the prospect of being in his arms once more.
"Oh, Master, I miss you so much," Alisa murmured, her voice tinged with longing. She closed her eyes and pictured his face, her lips curving into a smile as she recalled his handsome features.
His brown hair, blue eyes, and well-defined body. The warmth of his embrace, and the strength of his arms wrapped around her. His calming presence and his comforting scent.
The memories were like a soothing balm to her aching soul, and she clung to them, letting their familiarity soothe her.
Suddenly, a soft knock sounded on her door, jolting Alisa from her reverie. "Come in," she called, her voice a little shaky.
The door opened slowly, revealing a nervous-looking maid. She was holding a tray with a teapot and a teacup.
"P-Princess," the maid stammered, her face flushed with embarrassment.
Alisa raised an eyebrow in question. "Yeah?"
"U-Um, would you like some tea?" the maid inquired, her tone timid. "I thought it might help you relax."
"Sure," Alisa replied, giving the maid a small smile.
"O-Okay," the maid said, her shoulders relaxing slightly.
The maid approached Princess Alisa’s bed and carefully set the tray on the nightstand, ensuring that the teapot and teacup were within easy reach. She then took a few steps back and stood nervously, her gaze focused on the floor.
"Thank you," Alisa said, her tone appreciative.
"Y-You’re welcome, P-Princess," the maid replied, her stutter growing worse.
"You don’t have to be nervous," Alisa assured, her gaze understanding. "I won’t bite."
The maid’s face flushed an even deeper shade of red. "S-Sorry," she murmured, her voice barely audible.
"It’s alright," Alisa said with a light chuckle. "Now, why don’t you go and get some rest? You look like you need it."
"Y-Yes, Princess," the maid replied, a relieved expression crossing her features. She bowed her head respectfully before exiting the room, leaving Alisa alone once more.
The sound of the door clicking shut echoed throughout the silent room, and Alisa sighed softly. She gazed at the teapot and teacup for a moment before reaching out and pouring herself a cup of tea. She took a small sip, the warm liquid soothing her throat and bringing a sense of calm to her mind.
’Master, I’ll see you soon.’
The thought brought a smile to her lips as she lay down on the bed, her eyelids growing heavy with sleep. Her breathing grew steady as she drifted off into a peaceful slumber, the image of her master filling her dreams.
’I love you, my master. In this life and the next, I’ll always be yours.’
.....
In the dead of night, the old innkeeper and his accomplices gathered together, their eyes filled with malice. They were clad in dark robes, their faces concealed by masks.
"Are you ready?" the muscular man asked, his tone laced with excitement.
"Yes," the others responded in unison, their voices low and determined.
"Remember, we only have one chance at this," the muscular man cautioned, his eyes narrowed in concentration.
"We know," the old man assured, his gaze resolute.
"Then let’s begin," the muscular man commanded, his voice carrying an air of authority.
"Yes, boss!" the others responded in unison.
With that, the group set out on their mission, their minds focused on one goal.
To kidnap the Elven princess and exchange her for a large amount of money.
’Let’s get the rich reward!’
As the night progressed, the atmosphere in the city became heavy with tension. The streets were deserted, and a strange silence hung in the air. A full moon illuminated the city, its light casting an eerie glow on the buildings and streets.
Suddenly, a flash of lightning split the sky, followed by a crash of thunder. The sound was deafening, echoing throughout the city and shattering the stillness of the night. A torrential downpour began, the rain pelting against the rooftops and streets, creating a cacophony of sound.
In the midst of the storm, the old innkeeper and his companions were standing in front of the Scarlet Rose Inn, their figures barely discernible in the darkness. They were drenched to the bone, their clothes clinging to their skin, but their expressions were filled with resolve.
"Wait, where is the Devil?" The old in keeper asked the muscular man.
"Don’t worry, he is already inside the building. He is going to deal with the princess. We just have to take care of the guards." The muscular man assured the old man.
"Oh, okay."
"Just stay close and follow my lead," the muscular man instructed, his tone firm.
The others nodded, their expressions grim.
’It’s time to put our plan into action,’ the muscular man thought to himself, a dark smile tugging at his lips.
Meanwhile, inside the Scarlet Rose Inn, Princess Alisa was sleeping peacefully, unaware of the danger that lurked nearby.
The storm raged outside, the rain pouring down in sheets and the thunder rumbling loudly. The wind howled, rattling the windows and doors of the inn. Yet, despite the tumultuous weather, the building remained quiet, its occupants undisturbed by the commotion.
As she slept, having no idea that danger was nearby, Alisa’s chest rose and fell with every breath, the rhythmic motion betraying her peaceful state. Her long silver hair was splayed out on the pillow, creating a halo-like effect around her head. Her lips were slightly parted, and her eyelashes fluttered slightly as she dreamed.
Suddenly, a shadow hovered over her. It was the shadow of a boy no older than twelve years old.
’Is she the one?’ His lips curled into a smirk as he observed the sleeping girl. ’Well, she’s definitely beautiful. And her ears indicate she’s an elf. She must be the one the boss is looking for.’
