Chapter 136: Silent Curiosity and Resonant Words

Somewhere at the same time...

Alisa, the princess of the Elven kingdom, sat in her fancy carriage, surrounded by a serene atmosphere. The carriage’s insides were decorated with soft blue curtains, and a pleasant scent of wildflowers filled the air.

Her silver hair flowed like a shiny waterfall down her back, with streaks of vibrant red that added a captivating touch. Sunlight peeking through the curtains played on her hair, creating a beautiful dance of light and shadow.

With her eyes closed, Alisa rested her graceful hand under her delicate chin, the picture of royal calm. Her flawless elven features radiated an air of regal peace as she enjoyed a moment of quiet solitude.

Sitting across from Alisa was a jittery maid, her delicate pointy ears showing her Elven background, just like the princess.

Thoughts raced through her mind, and she couldn’t help but feel a bit scared. This is my first time accompanying the Princess. I hope I don’t make a mistake, she worried silently, her fingers nervously playing with her apron.

As the maid glanced at her princess, her anxiety suddenly turned into deep admiration. Alisa had that effect on people. Her beauty was otherworldly, and her serene expression only made her more captivating.

Princess Alisa looks incredibly beautiful, the maid thought, her eyes following the curves of Alisa’s face, her admiration clear in her gaze. She couldn’t resist being captivated by the princess’s silver hair that seemed to catch the very essence of the sun’s glow.

Her attention then fixated on those special crimson streaks, a natural marvel gracing Alisa’s hair. Wow, those streaks. They look so soft and stunning on her, the maid pondered, her thoughts filled with wonder.

A curious idea began to creep into her mind. Should I attempt to touch them? They say those crimson streaks in her hair are natural. Her curiosity intensified with each passing moment, the longing to feel the texture of those unique strands becoming irresistible.

Just a quick touch, she reasoned with herself, unable to resist the temptation any longer. Slowly, the maid stood up and leaned closer to her beloved princess, her heart racing with excitement.

Just a tiny bit,

she thought, her hand getting closer to Alisa’s captivating silver hair with its lively streaks. Her fingertips trembled with anticipation as they hovered over Alisa’s locks.

But just as she was about to make contact, a gentle and unexpected knock disrupted her daring impulse. Knock! Knock! The sound echoed in the carriage, startling the maid with surprise.

"Oh no!" she gasped, her eyes widening as her hand froze, just inches from Alisa’s hair. Panic surged through her, her heart racing as she realized how bold her actions had been.

Princess Alisa woke from her peaceful thoughts, opening her eyes with a graceful, slow movement. She saw her maid had returned to her original position, looking down with her hands quietly resting on her knees.

Suddenly, a voice from outside caught Alisa’s attention, and her gaze shifted to the carriage window.

"Princess, we’ll soon reach the entrance of the Alvon kingdom," the voice announced, its tone conveying a sense of importance.

The approaching arrival at their destination diverted Alisa’s attention from the maid’s momentary slip.

"Alright," Princess Alisa replied, her voice having a melodious quality that seemed to harmonize with the surrounding forest.

As she spoke, the attendant outside, his presence like fleeting shadows on the curtain, stepped back to give her some privacy. The sounds of his horse’s steps gradually faded into the tranquil forest noises.

After speaking with the messenger, Alisa’s calm gaze returned to the maid seated across from her. Her face stayed composed, hiding any feelings. In a firm tone, she straightforwardly said, "Don’t do that again."

The maid, taken aback by this unexpected command, stumbled in response, her eyes widening in surprise. "Huh?!" Her delicate features turned red with a mix of embarrassment and astonishment, and her fingers nervously played with her apron.

A rush of thoughts filled her mind, including the persistent question, Does she know I was going to touch her hair? It felt like the princess had somehow sensed her innermost intentions, making her feel exposed and vulnerable in that moment.

Back to the backside of the Alkan family’s mansion, where Nellas stood with the sword that had been thrown toward the guard next to him, his eyes locked onto Asad, the formidable soldier who had sent the weapon flying with a single strike.

"What did you say?" Nellas demanded, his voice filled with simmering intensity. He tightened his grip on the sword’s hilt, his knuckles turning white.

Asad, in contrast, seemed unfazed by Nellas’s sword-catching feat. He glanced at his own attire, a fine cloak and polished boots, and replied with a hint of pretended innocence, "I’m not entirely sure what you mean."

"The remark you made about poor people. Why did you say that?" Nellas’s voice remained soft but carried a weight that hung in the tense air between them.

Asad furrowed his brow in apparent confusion as he observed Nellas. Who is this man?

he wondered silently, noticing Nellas’s well-groomed appearance. Judging by his looks, he doesn’t seem to come from a poor family. Instead, he appears to be from a wealthy background. So why is he getting so upset?

"You’re offended by that?" Asad countered, concealing his own puzzlement with a touch of doubt.

Nellas took a deliberate step closer to Asad, his gaze resolute. "You mentioned the poor leeching off of wealthy families. Do you realize how tough life can be for those with fewer means?" His voice held a deep conviction, a sincere effort to help Asad see his point.

"Do you grasp the difficulties they face just to put one meal on the table?" Nellas continued, his words carrying the weight of undeniable reality. "They put their own well-being at risk to ensure their children can have another meal."

Drawing nearer, Nellas’s voice gained more emotion. "Even if they stumble upon some extra money, they won’t use it for themselves; they save every coin for their children’s well-being." He locked eyes with Asad, challenging him to see beyond his privileged viewpoint.

Asad was taken aback by Nellas’s fervent words and their heartfelt sincerity. He had never encountered such a passionate advocate for the less fortunate.

A moment of silence hung between them as the weight of Nellas’s words settled in, and Asad reflected on the depth of his own understanding.

Nellas pressed on, his voice steady. "These folks work tirelessly, day after day, often in jobs that barely provide enough to get by. They labor in fields, sweat in factories, and endure the toughest conditions, all for a wage that barely staves off hunger."

"They won’t indulge themselves, even when they can, because they prioritize their children’s well-being above all," Nellas affirmed. "I’ve witnessed parents go without food so that their sons and daughters can have a shot at a better life."

His eyes blazed with an intensity that couldn’t be overlooked. "They aren’t ’leeching’ off anyone’s wealth. They’re struggling to break free from the poverty cycle, and every bit they save is an investment in their children’s future."

Nellas’s voice carried empathy and conviction as he went on, "So, when you downplay their struggles, you not only disrespect their hard work but also their unwavering love and sacrifices for their families."

Asad stood in shocked silence, absorbing the impact of Nellas’s words. Each sentence served as a poignant reminder of the strength and dignity of those facing hardship.

"I-I’m sorry," Asad’s voice finally broke the tense silence, his apology brimming with sincerity and reflection.

Recognizing the genuine remorse in Asad’s voice, Nellas nodded with understanding. "You don’t need to apologize," he replied, his tone softening, "just remember to show respect to everyone making an effort." With that, he returned the sword to Asad and turned to walk away.

Asad received the sword and watched as Nellas started to move away, his back turned to the conflict.

However, before Nellas could get too far, the other combatant who had been facing off against Asad spoke up, expressing gratitude. "Thank you," he said sincerely, his voice filled with appreciation.

"Oh," Nellas responded, his tone humble and unpretentious. "It’s no big deal."

Meanwhile, Anna, who had been quietly watching the scene from the shadows, couldn’t help but be enchanted by Nellas’s actions.

"Cool," the maid’s voice suddenly interrupted Anna’s thoughts, pulling her back to the present.

Anna’s gaze shifted to her maid, her eyes filled with curiosity and a touch of amusement. The maid, noticing Anna’s look, couldn’t help but blush under the attention.

"Oh, did I say that out loud again?" she confessed, realizing that her earlier burst of admiration had once again slipped from her thoughts to her spoken words.

Anna, still amused by her maid’s frankness, simply nodded in response, her dark eyes shining with a shared appreciation for Nellas’ actions.
