Chapter 131: Crossroads of Destiny

Lost in his thoughts, Nellas gazed at the girl with a mix of shock and disbelief.

He wondered if his gut feeling was right, if somehow, against all odds, the person he had known in his past life had been reborn in this girl.

Little did Nellas know, the girl noticed his intense look. A slight blush appeared on her cheeks as he locked eyes with her. Her eyes showed curiosity and flattery, a hint of both in her gaze.

Surprised by the attention, she thought, Is he just staring at me? Her heart raced as their eyes met, and a rush of emotions washed over her—feelings that she couldn’t quite explain in words.

Coughing gently, the girl gave a small, shy grin. "Um, hi?" she said, breaking his deep thoughts.

Her voice pulled him back to the now, and he blinked, momentarily confused, like a magic spell had been undone.

His surprise must’ve shown on his face because the girl’s look turned puzzled. "Is everything okay?" she asked, her eyebrows coming together with worry, her eyes showing curiosity and kindness.

Realizing he’d been lost in his stare, he cleared his throat and nodded slightly, trying to get back on track. "No, nothing’s wrong," he answered, his voice steadier now. He managed a sheepish smile, feeling a little embarrassed about his absentmindedness.

The girl kept talking, her eyes still curious. "Thanks for helping my grandpa," she said, her gratitude clear in her voice.

Nellas managed a nod, even though he was now split between his thoughts and the conversation. "Oh, it was no big deal," he replied, his voice modest, even though his mind was still trying to grasp the unlikely coincidence.

Right then, the old man, the girl’s grandpa, spoke up, sounding amazed and thankful. "Truly, thank you, young man. You’ve done something we never thought could happen."

The old man’s words snapped Nellas back to reality. He listened as the old man went on, his eyes still carrying that mix of amazement and astonishment.

"Is there something we can give you in return? A token of our thanks for your amazing help?" the old man inquired, his voice genuine.

Nellas paused, thinking over the old man’s question. His mind was still processing the idea that the girl in front of him might be someone from his past.

While he was lost in his thoughts, the girl spoke up, adding to the old man’s offer.

"Yeah, just let us know if you need anything," she said, her eyes showing honesty and eagerness. "We can offer you whatever we can within reason."

Nellas held her gaze, his eyes seeking answers as if he could find them hidden within. Perhaps..., he thought, a glimmer of hope lingering in his mind. Perhaps this girl is...

While he pondered, he noticed her puzzled look. Her cheeks turned a deeper shade of pink, a clear sign that she was caught up in her own contemplation.

However, her gaze stayed locked on Nellas as if pulled by an unseen force. A gentle blush touched her cheeks, painting a soft hue that matched the emotions whirling within her.

Unknown to him, her thoughts painted a picture of admiration. His silver hair, she pondered silently, looks so incredibly soft, like moonlight woven into silk. It’s... beautiful.

Nellas blinked, suddenly noticing her stare. She held his gaze with an intense look, her cheeks tinged with a rosy hue.

With a quiet chuckle, he admitted to himself, Okay, this is getting a bit too much. His eyes shifted to the old man as he prepared to respond, his voice calm and heartfelt.

"Your gratitude is more than enough for me," Nellas answered, the essence of his earlier thoughts woven into his words.

A mix of longing and the weight of his past choices colored his response, overshadowing any material wants.

Turning his gaze back to the girl, his thoughts rushed like a river. Can I dare to hope? a quiet voice echoed in his mind, mixing with the weight of his past actions. After all I’ve done... to her?

A pang of regret surged within him, a sharp reminder of the scars he might have left on her life.

He grappled with his own inner struggle, wondering if he deserved any connection or redemption.

In the midst of his thoughts, a firm truth emerged. I shouldn’t meddle in her life... he admitted, the weight of his beliefs tugging at his heart. I’ve caused her enough chaos, enough pain. She deserves a chance at peace, unburdened by the turmoil I’ve woven.

Though heavy, this realization was clear. He felt compelled to make things right, to ensure her path wasn’t burdened by his past errors.

And so, he decided to navigate the tangle of emotions and choices with care.

The girl’s gaze remained on Nellas, a mix of curiosity and something he couldn’t understand.

Her blush grew a bit deeper, and she seemed lost in thought for a moment.

The old man nodded, his face showing he understood. "Alright," he said, sounding grateful. "We really appreciate what you’ve done. If you ever need a hand, just come to the Alkan family. We’d be happy to help."

With one last smile and nod, Nellas stepped back, giving the old man and his granddaughter some room.

Turning around, he found himself looking at Minhe, who was a bit farther away, watching with a mix of concern and curiosity. Her presence was like a stable point amid his swirling emotions.

Meanwhile, the girl’s eyes stayed on Nellas a bit longer before shifting to her grandfather, her worried look easing.

The crowd that had gathered started to disperse, leaving behind whispers of surprise and confusion in the air.

Approaching Minhe, Nellas noticed she was right where he’d left her. He felt reassured by her trust. Her faith in me is comforting, he thought, a warm feeling in his heart. But... Do I deserve it...?

Minhe’s face softened as she saw him coming closer. "Are you okay?" she asked, her eyes showing worry as she looked at him.

Nellas sighed, his thoughts still a mess. He took a moment to sort them out, still trying to figure out what all of this might mean. "I’m alright," he said, though he didn’t sound too convincing.

Minhe seemed skeptical, but she didn’t press him. "Well, if you don’t want to talk, that’s okay," she said, her tone gentle. "Now that it’s over, let’s head back."

He agreed with a nod, and together they left the square, their steps taking them back to their hometown.
