Chapter 119: Diana

Now, the present...

"The Crown Prince." The maid said as her eyes beamed in admiration.

Princess felt her heart skip a beat as she hastily spun around, her maids scrambling to gather their things.

"Did you say—my brother? Is he here?" she uttered, her voice wavering.

The maid who opened the door stepped aside letting Princess have a full view of her brother, standing at the door.

The prince, Rey, was dressed in a richly embroidered suit of royal white. A matching cravat adorned his neck, and his hair was neatly combed. As usual, his sharp eyes displayed an unwavering calmness.

"Brother," Princess called out to him, her eyes twinkling as she approached.

"Diana," he greeted her back, his expression unchanged. "You look as radiant as always."

"And you are as dashing as ever," Princess replied with a beaming smile. "Where have you been? It feels like it has been forever since we last met."

Rey sighed. "I am afraid we have been too busy to see each other. This kingdom has been quite chaotic of late, with all sorts of bizarre news arising and events occurring simultaneously."

Princess frowned, displeased at the mention of "bizarre news."

"So it is more important to handle this mysterious ’bizarre news’ than me? It is not fair. It makes me feel left out." She pouted her lips, a look of dissatisfaction lingering on her face.

Rey suppressed a smile. His sister truly knew how to bring a smile to his face. Her radiance was unparalleled, even if she did occasionally act spoiled.

"You know I would never neglect your wellbeing, Diana," he consoled her, "however, our kingdom is under the threat of an uncertain fate, so I cannot shirk my responsibilities."

"I understand," Princess conceded, although she was obviously displeased. Nevertheless, she was familiar with the burden of royalty, as she herself was the daughter of the royal family. She understood the importance of duty.

"I apologize for not coming to meet you sooner," he continued. "And to make it up I will take you out to eat something tasty in the city today. How about that?"

"Today..." Princess hesitated for a moment before saying, "I am sorry, brother. I cannot. I have plans of my own today."

Rey’s eyes narrowed slightly. "What plans? Are you going to visit your friend Elena?"

"Yes," she replied, nodding her head.

"Are you sure you are only going to meet only her and not someone else?" Rey asked suspiciously, his tone revealing his skepticism.

Princess’s face flushed red as she realized she had been caught in a lie. She struggled to find her voice for a brief moment before answering. "N-no... of course not, brother. Who would I..."

Her stuttering denial only confirmed Rey’s suspicions. He pressed the matter further, his tone demanding an explanation.

"You know Father will never let you be with someone from a mere Count’s family, Diana. Especially not with someone who isn’t part of our royal lineage. So, as long as you are not serious about him, I recommend you avoid meeting him."

"So, what if I am serious about him?" she countered defiantly, her cheeks flushed red in embarrassment. "What would it matter if I fall in love with someone beneath my status?"

"You know Father will never allow that. His priorities are to secure the kingdom and its throne." Rey explained. "We both know how important this is to him. You know, he wants me to marry someone from the Dragon Kingdom."

"So what if he does?" Princess replied, her voice becoming firmer. "He should let me choose who I fall in love with."

"Diana," Rey said, his tone stern, "Father will never allow you to marry anyone from a lesser family, not unless the union proves useful to the kingdom. He would never approve of you marrying a mere Count’s son, no matter how close you are to him."

"But—"

"No buts, Diana," Rey interjected. "I do not wish to argue with you over this. So, let us settle on something—I will stop worrying about you if you promise never to meet with him again."

Princess fell silent for a moment. She knew her brother would never understand. His duties and the expectations of their father were far too great.

"I am sorry, brother. I can’t promise you." Princess replied, her voice full of determination. "I don’t think I can forget him."

Rey sighed, unable to suppress his feelings of frustration. "There is no reasoning with you," he said. "However, I cannot keep covering for you for much longer."

He turned his head towards the maids standing behind Diana and said, "You have done a great job making her look even more beautiful than ever."

The maids’ faces instantly flushed red at the unexpected remark, their eyes fluttering in awe.

Rey turned his gaze towards Diana, and his expression softened. "And I will send someone personally to guard you instead of Baroy," he added.

"Ok, thank you, brother," Princess said, relieved. She felt a surge of gratitude for his kindness.

"Good, take care," he said as he began to walk away.

After around half an hour, Princess Diana and her two maids were walking toward a carriage outside the castle. As soon as they reached closer they saw a 15-year-old guy with black hair standing in front of it.

"Princess," He greeted with a bow.

Princess Diana’s eyes opened wide in surprise at the unexpected appearance of this boy.

’Isn’t he the one who was bullying the guards yesterday?’ She thought, remembering their brief interaction from the previous day.

’What the heck is he doing here?’ She thought, her face expressing her annoyance.

"I am assigned to escort you today, Princess Diana," he said with another bow.

Princess’s lips formed into a deep frown, her eyes filled with resentment. ’Don’t tell me he is the guard sent by brother?!’

The boy standing before her was Yujin, emanating an intriguing air about him, yet his youthful countenance remained undeniable. However, his appearance exuded an air of maturity and dignity.

The maids stood in silent astonishment at his unexpected presence, their gazes intermingling with amazement and curiosity as they stole glances at the young man.

’Isn’t he one of the two handsome gentlemen who arrived yesterday?’ they likely pondered.
