Chapter 118: Princess
Chapter 118: Princess
The next morning, Princess sat gracefully in front of the ornate mirror, while her personal maids meticulously brushed and tied her vibrant blonde hair. Each strand was straight and glossy, cascading down her back in a stunning display of beauty.
Despite her youthful countenance, her hair had grown remarkably long, requiring careful attention to keep it well-maintained.
"Make sure you comb it with utmost care," she instructed her maids, her voice filled with authority. "Just like the one in the picture I showed you."
"Yes, yes, Princess," the maids replied in unison, assuring her of their understanding. "We will ensure it matches the picture perfectly."
"You must comprehend that I—ahem—am visiting my dear friend Elena’s house today," Princess continued, her tone filled with a hidden excitement. "So, I implore you to make me exceptionally beautiful. I am going to make ’him’ fall for me."
"Him?" the maids exchanged glances, their reflections mirroring their mischievous grins. "Princess, are you..."
Princess swiftly turned her gaze towards them, her expression serious and determined. "Did I say ’make him fall for me’? I misspoke. I meant to say ’her.’ I am going to show her the stark contrast between us."
"Of course, Princess," the maids smiled, their skepticism still lingering. ’We understand what you truly mean. You are delighted because you will be meeting her brother.’ They probably thought.
’This is the first time since that time,’ Princess pondered, ’the first time I will see him again.’ It had been two long years since the day they first encountered each other in the ancient city of Ancnix. He had valiantly attempted to save her life, even if his efforts ultimately fell short.
’Nevertheless, it matters not,’ she mused, ’for he was rather impressive back then, despite the beating he endured.’
She envisioned his face from that fateful day and blushed, the memory still evoking a surge of emotions within her. Even after the passage of two years, her heart continued to flutter at the mere thought of him. Their initial meeting had left an indelible mark, as if he were a celestial being who had descended from the heavens themselves.
And at last, the moment she had eagerly awaited had arrived. The anticipation and exhilaration swelled within her heart, coursing through every fiber of her being. Her cheeks flushed a rosy hue, and her maids couldn’t help but smile knowingly, effortlessly deciphering her thoughts.
"The dress you have chosen looks splendid, Princess. It is absolutely perfect," one of her maids complimented.
Her maids had always been her trusted confidantes, offering unwavering support and assistance in all matters. They guided her in making decisions about dresses, accessories, hairstyles, and even makeup.
Princess relied on their expertise, knowing that she couldn’t single-handedly handle every aspect of her appearance. Their help was truly invaluable, and she was immensely grateful.
"Yes, it is perfect," she responded, admiring her reflection in the mirror. The pale blue dress she had carefully selected flowed elegantly around her figure. With its long length and short sleeves, it exuded a touch of sophistication. The slight transparency added an intriguing allure, while the open neckline showcased her graceful neckline.
Delicate pearls adorned the neckline, their shimmering beauty accentuated by the lace embroidery along the edges. It was a dress that emanated refinement and grace, captivating the beholder with its timeless elegance.
A pearl necklace adorned her neck, the pendant dangling like a blossoming flower. It was an exquisite piece, adding a final touch of sophistication to her ensemble.
The maids’ expertly applied makeup enhanced her natural beauty, leaving her looking effortlessly radiant and enchanting.
"He will surely be captivated when he lays eyes on you," one of the maids remarked, unable to hide her anticipation. "I hope he lives up to his reputation of being incredibly handsome. Oh, I would be so envious."
"Indeed, he is quite handsome," Princess replied confidently, her heart fluttering with excitement.
"But Princess, there were two remarkably handsome gentlemen who arrived at the castle yesterday. I believe their names were... umm..." The maids’ conversation was abruptly interrupted by a knock at the door. One of them hurriedly went to answer it.
As the door swung open, the maid felt her heart skip a beat, her jaw dropping in awe.
The person standing at the door was none other than —
"The Crown Prince." The maid said as her eyes beamed in admiration.
.....
Several minutes earlier, within the grandeur of the throne chamber...
"My lord, I bring grave tidings," Leon, the king’s unflappable bodyguard, relayed the news in his customary monotone voice. "The Zenith church has met its demise, obliterated entirely by a colossal crimson staff. No survivors remain, and we have discovered the lifeless body of one of their disciples, outside the castle walls. His blood had been drained, and a gaping hole marred his chest."
"Hmm, it is strange indeed," murmured the crown prince absentmindedly, his thoughts drifting elsewhere as he yearned to see his younger sister.
"And there’s more, my lord. Reports have surfaced of a black-haired girl dressed in a somber black robe roaming within the capital. Yet, she vanished without a trace. I believe it to be the Vampire Queen, my lord."
"What? You suspect she was the Vampire Queen?" the king queried, his astonishment evident.
"I cannot say with certainty," Leon replied. "Nevertheless, this girl perfectly matches the description we received from the general about Vampire Queen. And the knights on duty describe the girl as follows—beautiful black hair, crimson-red eyes, and lips of scarlet allure. Her captivating beauty demands prolonged gazes, despite the scar gracing her left cheek, akin to a dagger’s cruel mark."
"Hmm, the description bears a striking resemblance to that of the Vampire Queen. It appears time is slipping through our fingers. We must take action to safeguard our kingdom. We must hasten the wedding with the Dragon Kingdom, lest we find ourselves at a dead end."
"Yes, my lord," Leon dutifully acknowledged. "I have already dispatched a message to inform them of the urgency."
Suddenly, his memory stirred, and Leon added, "Oh, and the princess is departing once again today."
The mention of the princess caught the king’s attention. "Is she? Hasn’t she only just returned yesterday from the task I assigned her?"
"What did you say? Who is leaving?" the crown prince interjected, curiosity piqued.
"The princess, my lord. She is venturing out to meet her dear friend, the one from Count Alvin’s family."
"What?!" The crown prince exclaimed, taken aback. ’Could it be that she’s going to meet ’him’ as well?’ he wondered, his mind racing with possibilities.
