Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Blessing in Disguise

Nezha picked up the fruit core from the ground and handed it to the monk. Wu Xiang, seeing the tooth marks remaining on the core, immediately understood what happened and was suddenly startled.

He turned to look at the red fruits on the tree beside him, unable to recognize what kind of fruits they were for the moment, but the reason for Deng Chanyu’s symptoms was now crystal clear.

"This young lady’s consumption of this fruit has caused her Life Essence Qi to be too exuberant, and yet her own constitution is much too weak. I fear that her body can’t handle such nourishment; if this Essence Qi rampages inside her unchecked, her blood vessels could burst, leading to her death by bleeding from all seven orifices."

"Is it that serious? Monk, what should we do?"

Wu Xiang Monk’s brows were knitted in distress, and with a worried expression he said, "We need to find an outlet for this Life Essence Qi, otherwise, it will run wild within her, and Miss Deng might not last much longer. If it were a cultivator, they could naturally use spiritual sense to channel it through the meridians and acupoints, but all of Miss Deng’s acupoints are blocked..."

The monk felt it was worth a try, but the risk was too great.

If it were his own body, he might have the courage to take this risk, but with someone else’s life, he dared not make the decision.

At this moment, Wu Xiang Monk couldn’t help but think that if he had acted more decisively earlier, or had greater insight, perhaps those he had encountered before might also have had a chance to be saved.

With this thought, his mind wandered momentarily, and his hands began to tremble uncontrollably again.

Seeing this, Nezha simply picked up Deng Chanyu and laid her on the grass at the edge of the field, placing the back of his hand on her forehead, which was frighteningly hot.

"If this goes on, she’ll end up with meningitis. What the heck, let’s just treat a dead horse as if it’s alive."

Nezha turned to the dazed Wu Xiang and shouted, "Monk, would guiding the Life Essence Qi in her body to rush through the acupoints on her meridians work?"

"In theory, yes, but since Miss Deng’s acupoints are blocked, forcefully channeling it could cause great harm to her body, and one misstep could cost her life."

After saying this, the monk began to think that since he was the one who proposed this method, would he be responsible for another lost life if Deng Chanyu were to die because of it?

"But if we don’t try, she’s sure to die, right?"

Nezha took a deep breath, feeling his scalp tingle, and thought to himself, little sister, how did I never realize before that you’re such a troublemaker.

He pressed his right thumb against Deng Chanyu’s abdomen, a trace of spiritual sense emanating from his body, and saw Deng Chanyu, who had her eyes tightly closed and was clenching her teeth, suddenly let out a whimper and spat out a mouthful of foul breath tinged with blood.

Nezha muttered under his breath, "Don’t worry, since you’re here because of me, I will definitely save your life."

Guiding the robust Life Essence Qi, Nezha’s forehead also broke out in a fine sweat. He sensed that this Life Essence Qi was not harmful to the body, but it was simply too massive; without being spent, mortals could not withstand it.

Nezha’s eyes were slightly closed as he focused his mind, moving his right hand according to his spiritual sense over Deng Chanyu’s body, encountering all the various acupoints, which indeed were, as Wu Xiang Monk had said, completely obstructed.

This wasn’t to say that Deng Chanyu lacked talent; most ordinary folks in the world were just like this, which is why it is said that the talent for cultivation is a gift from heaven, sought but not found.

"As a young master naturally born with all meridians clear, such talent is indeed rare in the world. Fear not, even if the heavens have left your acupoints blocked, I shall defy them!"

With determination, Nezha led a strand of Life Essence Qi to assault the girl’s acupoints. After much deliberation, he saw the blockage over the acupoints loosen slightly but remain blocked, and the girl’s condition worsened. Her face, once flushed, was now deathly pale as paper.

He too was sweating profusely.

"Oh dear heavens, I admit I was a bit too rash just now. Can I not defy you? They say heaven is benevolent, so please show some mercy!"

As soon as the words fell, an acupoint opened up. Nezha had no time to rejoice when he saw blood gushing from the organs surrounding the acupoint. Fortunately, the Life Essence Qi replenished it in time, and the injury began to gradually heal.

Following suit, Nezha breached many of the girl’s acupoints in a similar fashion, using his own spiritual sense to guide Deng Chanyu’s, gradually allowing her to channel the Life Essence Qi through her acupoints on her own.

The unconscious Deng Chanyu’s complexion had already improved significantly, like she was in the midst of a dream. She had felt as if burned by fire at first, but later it felt soothing throughout her body, as if she were soaking naked in a hot spring.

The embarrassing part, however, was that aside from her in this hot spring, there was also a completely naked little Nezha.

It’s no wonder, after becoming aware of the spiritual sense, compared to many other parts of the body, the spiritual sense was the most sensitive.

In a daze, her consciousness seemed to sink into the water again; the world was very warm, yet pitch dark.

Time passed unknowingly until she jolted awake with a start.

Upon opening her eyes, the neatly bound golden-yellow straw thatched above her head came into view, supported by beams made of old mountain wood, while mud-brick walls enclosed the space around her.

Despite being surrounded by walls of earth, the place appeared remarkably clean to her, with the air filled with the pleasant, refreshing aroma of dried grass. Meanwhile, her last memory was of succumbing to her cravings and eating a fruit from the medicine garden.

"Was I that tired to fall asleep so quickly?"

Deng Chanyu stretched lazily, feeling unusually refreshed and invigorated as she had never been before.

The young girl leapt from the bed and hurried out the door, only to see Nezha and Wu Xiang Monk sitting by the lakeside on the green grass, huddled around a low table playing chess.

Nezha’s face was a picture of bitter frustration as he scratched his head in deep thought for a long time before reluctantly making a move. He then quickly turned to check the bamboo fishing rod stuck in the riverbank, hoping for a catch.

"Eh? What is this?"

Deng Chanyu noticed that both Nezha and Wu Xiang Monk were shrouded in a layer of dazzling golden light, and to her surprise, her own hands and feet were also enveloped in a warm yellow halo.

She stretched out her hand and merely waving it felt completely normal, yet through her eyes, countless fine lines streaked through the air between her fingers.

The girl first marveled at the wonder before her, and then the vast knowledge of the cultivation world she had mastered began to surface spontaneously from deep within her heart, prompting her to breathe with careful caution.

"I—can—cultivate—now!"

Her exuberant cry startled a few dazed and silly-looking water birds on the rooftop that lived by catching fish.

Listening to Deng Chanyu’s excited scream, which burst with an imposing life essence qi, Wu Xiang Monk’s face couldn’t help but light up with joy.

He placed a white piece on the chessboard, and in stark contrast to his naturally tranquil and serene disposition, the monk’s chess game brimmed with aggressive moves.

"Benevolent Lee, if you move there, you’ve lost."

Nezha sighed, conceding defeat, and said, "I’d lose even if I didn’t move there. I can’t believe I can’t even beat you at Go, let alone Five-in-a-Row. I admit it, you’re a genius."

"Thank you for the compliment."

Wu Xiang Monk accepted Nezha’s praise with neither modesty nor arrogance, but with utmost calm. As he patiently gathered the pieces back into the chessbox, he said, "The board’s nineteen lines can represent all things in the world, defining both the heavens above and the earth below. Just as Benevolent Lee mentioned earlier, these horizontal lines are the weft and the vertical ones are the warp; combined, they can fix the universe in place – it seems very reasonable. However, how can this world be spherical? If that were so, what would it look like underneath the globe where we stand?"

"The people standing under the sphere wouldn’t fall off either, due to the force of gravity. As for what gravity is, sorry, I’ve forgotten the formula and theory," said Nezha.

Lamenting the prospect of playing another game of Go against Wu Xiang Monk, who had seen innumerable tactical manuals and played against numerous experts, Nezha collapsed onto the grass behind him, thinking to himself, "When I stand on top of a high mountain and look into the distance, I see no curvature at the edge of the earth; could this world really be flat? But if it’s flat, what lies at the world’s edge? It’s a pity my Five Elements Escape Technique is sealed; otherwise, I should certainly take some time to fly in one direction for a year or half to find out."

He understood that cultivators were among the most curious beings in the world and that surely someone had attempted such a feat.

It was possible that this world was indeed flat.

But if so, why were the sun and moon overhead both spherical?

Could it be that within the vast darkness of the universe, a square plot of land floated, with the moon orbiting this land, and the land in turn orbiting the sun?

He couldn’t help but get up from the ground and asked again, "Monk, are you truly unable to lift this prohibition on me?"

Wu Xiang placed another white piece and, after seeing Nezha select a black piece from the box and observing where it landed, calculated the next dozen moves in an instant. Knowing what to anticipate, he looked up into Nezha’s eyes and said, "It doesn’t seem overly complicated, it’s just that I have never studied the Taoist Mystic Skills of prohibition."

As Nezha was about to let out another sigh, Wu Xiang smiled and said, "People are given legs to walk; not being able to fly or tunnel through earth is not necessarily a bad thing. Rushing by too quickly, one misses too much of the scenery. When you encounter someone fated to dissolve the prohibition, everything will naturally fall into place. Benevolent Lee, be not troubled by this matter."

Nezha was unaware that his meeting with the fated one mentioned by the monk was imminent.

He just looked at the chessboard, slapped his cheeks with both hands to revive his spirits, and asked, "Monk, do you really believe that determining the right positions in this game of black and white can open a portal to the outer world?

Let’s not end up opening a gate to be surrounded by a horde of Taiyi Golden Immortals; then, not only might we lose the spiritual medicine from these two acres, but our very lives might be in jeopardy too."
