Chapter 523: Episode 282: First Time Getting Kicked
After seeing off Li Yingchun and her companion, Hua Xiaomai entrusted Meng Yuhuai to the care of Old Lady Meng and hurried to the kitchen. She searched everywhere for ginger but couldn’t find a single piece. With no other options, she took some nutmeg powder, brewed it with water, and fed it to him by pinching his nose.
How much had this man drunk today!
She looked at his face lying on the table, his brows tightly furrowed and his eyelashes trembling slightly as if he was quite restless, and she felt a softness in her heart.
Old Lady Meng brought out a basin of warm water, muttering non-stop, "Knowing he was drunk, why bother to bring him home with so much trouble? Wouldn’t it be easier to just stay in the city overnight? The Escort Agency isn’t lacking rooms for him to sleep in!"
Hua Xiaomai probably guessed a reason but didn’t say it out loud, and just wrung out a towel to wipe Meng Yuhuai’s face.
"Since he’s been brought back, it would have been better to just take him straight home, it would be easier for everyone! Why insist on bringing him to this shop? Have you had your brain pecked by a chicken?" But Old Lady Meng was not ready to stop and kept grumbling on the side.
"There’s no one at home, so Yuhuai was brought back here, and they couldn’t have left either," Hua Xiaomai replied, turning back and smiling at Old Lady Meng.
Master Tan then hesitantly said, "What if I and Master Wang lend a hand and help move Leader Meng back home to get a good sleep, and he’ll be fine by tomorrow morning."
Old Lady Meng was about to agree, but Hua Xiaomai stopped her.
"He’s already uncomfortable from drinking so much; moving him around more will only make him feel worse." She thought for a moment, then pursed her lips and smiled at Master Tan, "We’ve already been delayed tonight, you masters should hurry back to Zhenwei Garden to rest; I can handle things here myself."
Master Tan nodded, but Old Lady Meng started exclaiming surprisedly, "Are you implying that you’ll stay in the shop tonight?"
What else could she do?
Hua Xiaomai affirmed, and turned her head to look at Zhou Yunyun, "Behind in the garden, there are so many rooms ready, making do for one night is not a problem. I remember when Yunyun first moved into the restaurant, she had prepared several sets of bedding and pillows..."
"Right!" Zhou Yunyun quickly nodded, "I only used one set, the rest are untouched, brand new. Wait here, I’ll go get them."
Having said that, she turned and ran towards the inner hall.
On this side, Hua Xiaomai then kindly said to Old Lady Meng, "Mom, you should go home and sleep early too. Tomorrow the three of us can’t all be without energy. I’ll stay here."
"Just you?" Old Lady Meng immediately became somewhat unhappy upon hearing this and gazed at her belly, "With your current condition, how can you take care of him? Why don’t you go back, and I’ll stay here..."
As for taking care of a drunkard, Hua Xiaomai also had no experience at all, but what else could she do? It was her own husband; could she really entrust him to someone else?
So, she shook her head: "Look at him, even when he’s drunk he’s quiet; I don’t think he will be too troublesome. I’ll go to sleep once he’s settled. Being by his side, it will be easier to tend to his needs for tea or water. Moreover, my condition has been stable lately, one night won’t cause any mistakes. Mom, you should head back now. I’ve heard that when someone gets drunk, they feel even worse the next day; you’ll be needed to take care of him then."
Old Lady Meng, upon reflection, found this reasoning sound and said no more. She, along with Masters Wang and Tan, brought Meng Yuhuai to a room by the bamboo grove and after giving Hua Xiaomai some specific instructions, reluctantly left, glancing back three steps at a time.
This row of wooden houses was originally used for dining, so naturally, there were no beds. Hua Xiaomai laid down the mattresses brought over by Zhou Yunyun on the floor and helped Meng Yuhuai to lie down on them. Then she thought for a moment, went to the kitchen to find a small stove and a red clay pot, and picked some random ingredients to bring to the wooden house, instructing Zhou Yunyun to lock the front door before sleeping. She then fetched another basin of hot water and locked the room door as well.
A single lamp was lit in the room, placed far away on the windowsill, casting large and small halos of light on the floor, reflecting the various utensils in the room on the walls, shadowy and flickering.
Guessing that Meng Yuhuai had probably sweated a lot, she helped him out of his clothes and wiped him down from head to toe so that he could sleep more comfortably.
But... this guy really was, dead heavy and with such hard bones, just moving his legs took a great deal of effort. After getting him settled, Hua Xiaomai had worked up a good sweat herself and plonked down beside him.
