Chapter 34. Back Home.
Chapter 34: 34. Back Home.
Ethan guided Adrian carefully into their home, his arm wrapped protectively around Adrian’s waist.
As they entered, the soft hum of the air conditioning and the calming scent of fresh linen seemed to soothe the tension between them. Ethan’s mansion was spacious, filled with understated luxury, yet it felt like a fortress of safety to Adrian.
"Let’s get you settled," Ethan murmured as he gently helped Adrian into the bedroom. "Lucas will be here soon."
Adrian smiled faintly, exhaustion heavy in his silver eyes. He had been through so much, and even though Ethan had assured him that things would be fine, there was still a lingering uncertainty. He had escaped, after all, a near-death experience.
Ethan helped Adrian lie down, fluffing the pillows behind him before kneeling by his side. His hand grazed Adrian’s cheek, and for a moment, the world felt still.
"You’re safe here. I’ll take care of everything," Ethan said softly, his gaze unwavering.
Before Adrian could respond, the doorbell rang, and Ethan hurried to answer it. Moments later, he returned with Dr. Lucas Anderson in tow. Lucas, only a few years younger than Ethan, had an air of calm professionalism about him. His black hair was tousled, and his hazel eyes were sharp with intelligence. He smiled warmly at Adrian as he approached the bed.
"Sister-in-law, I’m Lucas. Don’t worry, you’re in good hands," Lucas said kindly, setting down his medical bag.
Hearing Sister-in-law, Adrian blushed hard, "Just call me, Adrian. Please."
Lucas didn’t seem worried, "Alright, Adrian. I’m going to run a few quick checks and make sure everything is okay, alright?"
Adrian nodded, his heart racing slightly. Ethan stood at the foot of the bed, watching carefully, his brows knit with concern.
Lucas took out his equipment and began examining Adrian with practiced ease. He checked Adrian’s vitals first, ensuring his heart rate and blood pressure were stable. Then he turned to his ultrasound machine, setting it up beside the bed. The room was quiet, filled only with the soft hum of the machine as Lucas carefully applied gel to Adrian’s lower abdomen.
"This might feel a little cold," Lucas warned with a small smile before moving the ultrasound probe over Adrian’s skin.
Adrian’s breath hitched, and he held Ethan’s hand tightly as the image of their baby appeared on the screen. It was small, barely a cluster of cells, but the flicker of life was unmistakable. Ethan’s eyes softened, and his grip on Adrian’s hand tightened as he stared at the screen, mesmerized.
"Everything looks good," Lucas said after a few moments. "The baby is about one month along, so it’s still very early. But you’re both healthy. The pregnancy seems to be progressing normally."
Adrian let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. His heart swelled with a mix of relief and disbelief as he gazed at the tiny image on the screen.
"But," Lucas continued, his tone shifting to one of caution, "Adrian, you’re lacking some key nutrients. Your body has been through a lot, and while the baby is fine for now, we need to ensure you’re getting the proper nutrition to support both yourself and the baby."
Lucas turned to Ethan, handing him a printed report from the ultrasound. "I’ll prescribe some prenatal vitamins and suggest a high-protein, high-iron diet. Lots of leafy greens, lean meat, and fish. Adrian also needs to rest and reduce stress as much as possible. This pregnancy is already taxing on his body."
Ethan nodded, his face serious as he absorbed the information. "I’ll make sure he gets everything he needs. What else should we be doing?"
"For now, just keep him comfortable and monitor for any unusual symptoms—dizziness, bleeding, severe pain. If anything feels off, call me immediately," Lucas instructed, packing up his equipment. He glanced at Adrian with a reassuring smile. "You’ll be okay, Adrian. Just focus on resting and let Ethan pamper you."
Adrian managed a small chuckle at that, the tension in his chest easing. "Thank you, Lucas."
Lucas waved him off and turned to Ethan with a smirk. "You’ve got your work cut out for you, Ethan. Make sure he’s eating properly, and no stressful situations."
"I’ll handle it," Ethan replied confidently. "Thanks for coming on such short notice."
After a few more words, Lucas packed up his bag and headed out, leaving Ethan and Adrian alone in the soft glow of the evening light filtering through the windows.
Ethan sat down on the edge of the bed, his expression a mix of relief and concern. "You heard Lucas. I’m going to make sure you’re taken care of."
Adrian, propped up against the pillows, looked at Ethan with soft eyes. "You’re worrying too much," he teased gently, though his voice was still tinged with exhaustion.
"I have every reason to worry," Ethan replied, leaning forward and brushing a strand of Adrian’s long black hair behind his ear. "You’re my everything. And now we have our baby to think about."
Adrian’s heart swelled at Ethan’s words. There was something so grounding about Ethan’s presence, something that made him feel safe despite everything that had happened. He looked down at his stomach, still flat but now carrying a secret life. "Our baby," he whispered, his hand resting on his abdomen.
Ethan’s gaze softened, and he leaned down, kissing Adrian’s forehead gently. "Yeah. Our baby."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, just the two of them, wrapped in the warmth of each other’s presence. Then Adrian broke the silence with a soft laugh.
"What’s so funny?" Ethan asked, smiling despite himself.
"I just... I never imagined this," Adrian said, his silver eyes shimmering with emotion. "You. Me. A baby. It feels like a dream."
Ethan’s hand found its way to Adrian’s cheek, his thumb stroking softly over his skin. "Then let’s make it the best dream possible," he whispered, leaning in to kiss Adrian’s lips, slow and tender.
The kiss was soft at first, a gentle exchange of affection. But as the moment lingered, it deepened, becoming more passionate. Adrian’s fingers curled into Ethan’s shirt, pulling him closer, and Ethan responded in kind, his hands sliding to Adrian’s waist, careful yet possessive.
"I love you," Ethan murmured against Adrian’s lips.
Adrian pulled back slightly, his breath shallow, his silver eyes locking with Ethan’s. "I love you too."
Ethan kissed him again, his hand slipping behind Adrian’s neck, pulling him even closer. The world outside their little cocoon didn’t matter; in that moment, it was just the two of them, intertwined in a soft, intimate embrace.
Suddenly, the door creaked open.
"Ahem," came a voice from the doorway.
Ethan pulled back from Adrian, slightly flustered, only to see Leclair wheeling himself into the room with a smirk on his face. "Sorry to interrupt your... romantic moment."
Adrian laughed, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment, while Ethan straightened up, clearing his throat. "Leclair... we weren’t expecting you so soon."
Leclair rolled his eyes playfully. "I figured you’d be too busy being overprotective of Adrian to notice me. But, I do have news."
Ethan stood up, his expression turning serious again. "What did you find?"
Leclair looked over his shoulder as Augustin entered the room, his fingers flying over a tablet screen. "Augustin’s been working on hacking the CCTV footage around the area where Adrian was kidnapped."
Augustin, whose usual Gentle demeanor had been replaced by focused intensity, handed the tablet to Ethan. "We’ve managed to recover some footage from the nearby buildings. I’m still piecing it together. Solid Proof of Sending Someone to Jail."
Leclair leaned back in his wheelchair, glancing at Adrian. "We’ll get to the bottom of this, Adrian. I promise."
Adrian, still sitting on the bed, nodded, his heart heavy but grateful for the support around him.
"We won’t let them get away with it," Ethan said, his voice low and determined, his hand resting protectively on Adrian’s shoulder.
