Chapter 170: Chapter 144: The Beginning of the Scandal

Because of a blanket, Zhou Yun had no scenes to shoot but still spent the whole day on the film set, observing others’ performances.

In the afternoon, Su Yan came to shoot and upon seeing Zhou Yun, she frowned and asked the assistant, "Is Zhou Yun also going to have scenes later?"

The assistant shook his head and said, "I haven’t heard anything about it."

After a while, the assistant inquired and came back, telling Su Yan, "Zhou Yun was supposed to have scenes this morning, but because Director Kang was not satisfied with the blanket and had the Prop Team redo it, Zhou Yun’s scenes were canceled at the last minute. However, Zhou Yun didn’t leave and just stayed on set to watch others act."

Su Yan sneered disdainfully, "He really knows how to perform, staying on set like a model student. He just came out of school, always pretending to be diligent."

The assistant didn’t respond.

Suddenly, Su Yan remembered something and asked, "Right, where is Jiang Yuzhen? Isn’t she supposed to shoot a scene with me later? Why haven’t I seen her yet?"

The assistant replied, "She’s probably still putting on makeup."

"Such a diva, making me wait for her," Su Yan said, arms crossed over her chest.

The assistant kept silent.

After a while, the scene being shot finally ended.

Change of scenes.

Kang Xin called Su Yan over and explained how she should perform in the next scene.

Kang Xin’s way of explaining a scene was meticulous, as if breaking down a scene bit by bit and elaborating it thoroughly for the actor.

However, Su Yan is not a patient person and doesn’t absorb instructions well. If it weren’t Kang Xin explaining the scene, she would have become impatient already.

Su Yan is haughty and never thinks her acting is poor; she doesn’t feel the need for such detailed guidance.

Explaining so detailedly, it seemed as if implying her acting wasn’t up to the mark, having to explain every tiny detail to her.

Having shot in the crew for so long, Kang Xin had come to understand Su Yan’s character.

To be honest, he wasn’t very satisfied with her.

But even as a renowned director, there are many considerations he had to keep in mind.

For instance, Su Yan is a celebrity, and she has strong financial backing and a powerful platform supporting her.

Kang Xin couldn’t scold Su Yan for a poor attitude like he might a newcomer.

He could only patiently explain the scene to her over and over.

After explaining the scene, Jiang Yuzhen arrived.

Jiang Yuzhen was portraying He Mu’s older sister He Zhen, who is the arch-enemy of Su Yan’s character Yang Zhen in the story.

When He Mu planned to marry Yang Zhen, He Zhen was the person who disagreed the most; after Yang Zhen married He Mu, He Zhen frequently targeted her, causing various troubles.

Offstage, Jiang Yuzhen arrived gracefully.

She is a quite well-known actress, having acted for many years and has become a familiar face to viewers since the TV drama era.

With deepening experience and good performance in her roles, she gradually entered the ranks of veteran "traffic-driven" actresses, not even forty yet.

Kang Xin explained to Jiang Yuzhen what he wanted from the scene; she pondered for a moment, nodded, and told Kang Xin, "I understand."

The two rehearsed the scene.

Zhou Yun continued observing from the side.

Su Yan still held the script in her hand.

Jiang Yuzhen handed off her script to the assistant with both hands tucked, a lift of her chin, and an air of disdain immediately appeared on her face.

"Look at you, talking for a few moments has already made your eyes red as if you’re going to cry. Did I say something too harsh, or are you doing this on purpose?"

He Zhen had a shrewish character, loving to bully her younger brother He Mu since they were children, and grew even more intense after she got married.

Yang Zhen, portrayed by Su Yan, was not a demure and gentle lady, but she had her ways of dealing with He Zhen.

Su Yan lowered her head and pursed her lips, staying silent, presenting herself as a wronged little wife.

"Su Yan, make this grievance more natural," Director Kang directly said.

Su Yan asked, "Director, isn’t Yang Zhen’s grievance here supposed to be feigned?"

Kang Xin replied, "Although it’s feigned, it needs to appear genuine. She isn’t putting on the act for He Zhen; she’s doing it for He Mu to see. If the grievance looks too fake, how would He Mu ever believe it?"

Su Yan let out a sound of acknowledgment.

Take it from the top.

This time, the grieving expression on Su Yan’s face was more genuine.

It must be admitted that Su Yan indeed had acting skills; with a simple bow of her head and a slight furrow of her eyebrows, her lips parted slightly revealing a look of being wronged but too afraid to speak.

Jiang Yuzhen continued with the scene.

"He Mu isn’t here now, who are you showing this face to?" Jiang Yuzhen disdainfully glanced at Su Yan, very unimpressed, "Can’t be bothered to talk to you anymore, hurry up. Didn’t He Mu bring back a piece of coral a while ago? Show me, I want to see what’s so special about it."
