Chapter 102: Chapter 102: The Beginning of the Scandal

Zhou Yun was chopping up a chicken and pondering just how waterlogged her brain must have been to agree to cook a meal for Song Chi herself.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk."

Suddenly, Song Chi’s slightly disdainful voice came from behind her.

Zhou Yun turned to look at him.

"What’s your problem this time?"

Song Chi stood with his arms crossed over his chest, leaning against the doorframe.

He said, "With the way you’re hacking away at that chicken—chop, chop, chop—I think you’d be perfectly cast as a Female Assassin."

"Talking trash again?" Zhou Yun was irritated by Song Chi’s nonsensical banter, "Stop bothering me, go wait outside."

Song Chi stayed put, not moving an inch, and his posture didn’t change, either.

"It would be so rude to leave you cooking alone in the kitchen."

"Then will you come and help?"

"I’d really love to, but alas, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

"It figures, your delicate hands don’t do manual labor. Stop blabbering here; just hearing your voice gives me a headache."

"I’ve noticed you’re getting ruder to me every time. Can’t you be a little gentler?"

"Big brother, who’s the one who showed up beneath my apartment in the middle of the night, blocking my way and demanding a home-cooked dinner? Am I your hired nanny or something?" Zhou Yun retorted with resentment.

Song Chi clicked his tongue twice, "You talk as if I’m enslaving you, but this was all your own agreement."

While grumbling, Zhou Yun got the chicken soup simmering.

She then washed and chopped the rest of the vegetables and prepared to make a hot pot with the chicken soup once it was ready.

She really didn’t want to go through the trouble of cooking a full meal this late at night.

"Okay, it’ll be ready in about twenty or thirty minutes."

Zhou Yun used a pressure cooker to make the chicken soup, which was faster. After washing her hands clean and wiping them dry, she turned around and saw Song Chi still standing at the kitchen doorway like a door god.

"Why are you still standing there?"

Song Chi asked, "All done?"

"Just waiting for the soup to be ready before we can start cooking." Zhou Yun yawned, "I’m truly exhausted today."

Song Chi remarked, "That tired, huh?"

"Yeah, this tired, and someone is still forcing me to cook for him." Zhou Yun sprawled onto the sofa, her eyes bleary, "I’m going to take a quick nap. Wake me up in twenty minutes."

Song Chi widened his eyes, wanting to ask, "Is this how you treat a guest?" but seeing the tiredness on Zhou Yun’s face, he swallowed the words.

He watched Zhou Yun for quite a while, thinking to himself that this woman really had guts, to be able to sleep with him, a man, right there in her apartment.

What happened to her sense of security?

Then he thought about it, satisfyingly crossed his arms, sat down, and casually propped up his legs.

This also showed that Zhou Yun must trust him quite a bit.

She always talked to him with a barbed tongue, as if he were the greatest enemy of her life, but moments like this revealed her true feelings.

Song Chi just sat there, watching Zhou Yun and keeping an eye on the time. As soon as twenty minutes passed, he made a sound to alert her.

Zhou Yun lay motionless on the sofa.

Song Chi made another sound.

Zhou Yun still lay motionless on the sofa.

"Twenty minutes are up." said Song Chi.

Suddenly, Zhou Yun bolted upright like a carp flipping out of water.

Song Chi was startled and recoiled.

Zhou Yun, as if awakening from a dream, turned to look at Song Chi and asked, "How long did I sleep?"

"Exactly twenty minutes." Song Chi replied.

Zhou Yun let out a sigh of relief, leapt from the sofa, and jogged into the kitchen, turned off the stove, and poured the stewed chicken soup into the hot pot.

Song Chi followed like a tail.

"I’ll take it." Song Chi took the basin from Zhou Yun’s hands.

Zhou Yun carried the dishes out.

The chicken soup bubbled and simmered.

Song Chi pulled out a chair to sit down and said, "It smells pretty good."

Zhou Yun: "Nonsense, just look at who made it."

"When did you learn to cook?" asked Song Chi, "That’s impressive, not many young people can cook these days."

"I learned when I was a kid, I had no money. Eating out was too expensive, and I wanted to eat better, so I learned by myself." Zhou Yun adjusted a dipping sauce and handed it to Song Chi, saying, "Try this, dip into it."

"You started cooking by yourself when you were a kid?" Song Chi was even more surprised.

"I lived at my grandmother’s place. My grandmother worked outside and came back very late every time, so I just learned to cook by myself."

Song Chi was a bit shocked: "You didn’t live with your parents?"

"They died." Zhou Yun smiled, "They both passed away when I was very young."

Song Chi’s expression suddenly changed to that of a child who had made a mistake or said something wrong.

He opened his mouth but hesitated to speak.

Zhou Yun shrugged and said, "I know what you want to say, don’t say it."

Song Chi deflated, and after a few seconds, said, "I don’t even know what I want to say."

"You know what you want to say, you just don’t know how to express that you’re sorry and shouldn’t have asked that."

Zhou Yun picked up a piece of cabbage and said, "They’ve been gone a long time, I can hardly remember their faces now, so don’t feel sorry, it’s nothing."

The hot pot murmured and bubbled.

After a long silence, Zhou Yun said: "What about you?"

Song Chi: "What?"

"Why did you enter the entertainment industry? I’ve seen your interviews, your life seemed pretty smooth from start to finish, and your family isn’t poor, so why enter the entertainment industry?"

"When I entered, of course, it was because of a dream. At that time, I thought being a celebrity was very cool, singing and dancing on stage, the center of attention."

"You’re an actor now."

"Yeah, who knew? While acting, I discovered I had more of a talent for it."

"But it’s not your dream."

"But it’s what I want to do."

"Acting?"

"Yeah, initially it was just following the company’s arrangements, but as I acted I found this line of work quite interesting."

Song Chi put down his chopsticks.

"Why did you enter the entertainment industry?" Song Chi asked.

Zhou Yun lowered her head with a smile, like a little cat.

"Because it pays well, I owe a lot of money, and I need to pay off debts."

"How old are you, to have owed so much money to others?" Song Chi didn’t understand.

"That’s none of your business. Hurry up and eat, finish and go, I’m dead tired and want to sleep!" Zhou Yun suddenly changed her tone, staring at Song Chi and spoke.

Song Chi: "Who does this? Inviting someone over for dinner and then rushing them to eat quickly?"

"Brother, did I invite you? Who came with a bag of vegetables to my building’s entrance to stop me? I had the compassion to let you come up, into my home, and I made you a pot of chicken soup hot pot. I’m like a fairy descending, kind-hearted and beautiful, okay?"

Song Chi: "Fairies don’t talk as much as neighborhood committee aunties."

"Who told you fairies must be reticent and sensible? A chatterbox fairy is still a fairy, how would a mortal like you understand."

"Just shut up, you’re ruining my mood for eating."

Zhou Yun was puzzled.

When did starting a fight on a whim become their way of getting along?
