Chapter 84: Chapter 25 Yanfei Returns_1

Yan Fei was holding up his household registration book and disability certificate and looking arrogant beyond belief, but no one was going to argue with him now.

Who dare bet on whether it was legal for someone with a mental illness to commit murder, equating it with two human lives?

Those who knew what was happening started to worry in retrospect. What if he suddenly went mad? Even the gods would be helpless, forcing everyone to pray to all kinds of gods, hoping that he wouldn’t lose his mind before revealing where the two men were.

Yan Fei’s plan was to drag things out as long as possible, making this group increasingly anxious.

After speaking, he was about to ignore them and return, but as he turned his head, he saw a familiar figure rushing frantically towards him.

Xu Xiaoyan was sitting happily in a car, carrying a backpack her elder sister had brought back for her from the provincial capital during the New Year.

When it was time for the third year of high school exams, the pressure grew. a recent test had just passed, and she performed well, ranking among the top in her grade. Teachers said she was steadily improving. She couldn’t be certain about getting into a prestigious university, but an average one seemed to be in the bag. She had packed her things as soon as the weekend came and rushed to the bus station after school to go home. She would be lying if she said she wasn’t pleased.

She had a plan. She wanted to ask Yan Fei whether he would be happy if she moved to a faraway place for college in Yanjing city, given her academic performance.

Before the bus reached the big bridge, her gaze, fixed on Yan Fei’s cattle farm, went blank. All her joy instantly disappeared.

After the bus crossed the bridge, she saw a crowd gathered at the entrance of the cattle farm, many of them carrying spades and hoes. Among the crowd were two figures dressed in police uniforms. Her heart clenched as if something had grabbed it. Confused, tears began to fall like a stream.

The bus slowed down upon seeing the crowd but still gradually passed them.

Xu Xiaoyan snapped out of her thoughts, stood up abruptly and cried, "Stop the bus... Stop!"

Country buses always stopped when someone yelled, so the driver immediately hit the breaks without looking back. As soon as the bus stopped, Xu Xiaoyan, almost thrown off balance by the inertia, ran to the exit, crying and pounding on the door, "Open the door... Open the door..."

Before the door was fully open, the young lady was off running and crying, not caring about the road. As she jumped over the dry trench on the roadside, she fell into the wheat field. She got up, wiped the tears from her eyes, and started running again, ignoring the mud on her face.

Whilst running, she cried andcalled out Yan Fei’s name.

Yan Fei stood there, somewhat taken aback, watching her cry out and run over. Subconsciously, he put the two small certificates into his pocket.

He wasn’t afraid of showing off to others; he could use these documents to threaten others. He didn’t want this girl he had grown up with to see his disability card, instinctively following the strange psychology of a young lad.

Xu Xiaoyan ran through the crowd crying, then when she saw Yan Fei standing there, her face covered in tears, she began to laugh. She suddenly turned serious, used one arm to shield Yan Fei, and pointed at the crowd with her other hand, shouting angrily, "What are you trying to do? Are you bullying us because you think we’re weak? If you’re that brave, come at me...Come!"

Her clothes were covered in mud and stained green by the wheat shoots, while trails of tears left marks through the mud on her face. Yet her expression was fierce. Like a mother swallow protecting her fallen chick, her body trembled, either from worry or fear, but by the way she was shouting at the crowd, she looked ready to fight at any moment.

The crowd, originally stunned by the girl’s crying and running, was now dumbstruck!

It took them a moment to react, hadn’t she seen the situation? Didn’t she see the people kneeling on the ground? Couldn’t she tell who was bullying whom?

"Are you blind? Can’t you tell who’s bullying whom?" A young man in the crowd could not take it anymore. The helpers who had arrived hadn’t been of any use since they got there, and with the missing person hidden by Yan Fei, wasn’t everyone forced to hold back? Since they had arrived, they hadn’t dared to speak harshly to Yan Fei for fear of causing a scene, in case he might run away and abandon everything.

"Who the hell said that?" Yan Fei said, pulling Xu Xiaoyan back as she ran towards the crowd. "Get out here and let me see... Come out..."

This was the first time that Yan Fei had lost his cool that day. Somehow, seeing Xu Xiaoyan like this made him lose control of himself. As he abruptly stood up, his fiery gaze sweeping the crowd, everyone who he looked at intuitively averted their gaze.

Xu Xiaoyan was taken aback, probably because she had just noticed that there was still someone kneeling. She reacted and tugged at him: "What are you doing? Why so fierce?"

Yan Fei looked at her tear-streaked face and felt a soft spot in his heart, yet he glared at her: "Go wash your face, you look like a spotted cat. Is it your place to talk? Go wash your face."

Xu Xiaoyan probably also felt that she wasn’t looking her best at the moment. She glanced at the crowd with her head lowered and quickly turned around to wash her face.

There were still a bunch of people in the courtyard! How embarrassing for this girl! She covered her face and ran inside.

None of the crowd laughed at the girl who was dirty and unattractive. Pang Fa watched her run inside and sighed with admiration: "If my future wife is this good, it’d be damn worth dying."

Ma Yongming chuckled at him: "Then you better start looking slowly. It’s not easy to find, especially since they’re all college students! Ah, my wife was also pretty when I first saw her. If it were her, let alone so many people daring to protect me, I’d be satisfied if she could hand me a stick during a fight!"

Not just those two, after hearing their conversation and thinking about it, the group of young fellows standing nearby, though they didn’t say it aloud, weren’t they all casting envious glances at Yan Fei?

Unaware of all this, Yan Fei turned back to the crowd, his tone much gentler this time: "Whoever just spoke up, come out and slap yourself twice, otherwise it will be too late when I find you!"

His temper might have eased, but the firmness in his voice was unmistakable.

There was a moment of chaos in the crowd, but nobody spoke.

After a while, a flushed young man stepped forward, gave himself a couple of slaps, then dashed off without saying a word or looking back.

Watching his departing figure, Yan Fei sneered: "At least he knows how to take care of his family! Didn’t start a disaster for his folks!"

This remark was so domineering that even Lin Baoguo and other three police officers wanted to leave. With all these people present, just for a derogatory comment about his fiancée, he considered it causing a calamity to his family?

But it wasn’t a good time for them to interject. Clearly, Yan Fei wanted to make some people completely back down before letting them go, and there was nothing they could do about it!

Xu Xiaoyan still had no idea what had happened! After washing her face and coming out, she entered the courtyard and saw a bunch of strangers. She didn’t know who to ask. Fortunately, Lin Yumei was observant and quickly filled her in.

Just as they were talking, Yan Fei walked into the courtyard. Xu Xiaoyan immediately went up to him and said in a hushed voice: "Did you kill anyone? Remember, don’t let it slip, never admit it! Being honest may land you in jail, while being defiant may allow you to go home for the holidays, understand?"

Yan Fei was torn between laughter and tears: "Where did you learn that line from, high school student! When did I ever kill anyone?"

Xu Xiaoyan nodded earnestly: "Yes, exactly, we’ve never killed anyone. That’s our story no matter who asks. Otherwise, just pretend to be dumb, don’t be scared!"

Yan Fei looked at her, feeling a bit dizzy. He lowered his voice to make sure no one else was listening: "What are you thinking? It’s just two guys tried to set off fireworks at the ranch, so I tied them up and hid them. No one died, not even a dog. Plus, there are six purebred puppies that are so much fun! They haven’t even opened their eyes yet!"

The mention of the puppies didn’t shift her attention: "You really didn’t kill them? You hid them?"

"Yes!"

Upon hearing Yan Fei’s affirmative answer, she patted her moderately-sized chest: "Good then. They won’t break in, right? By the way, where are the puppies? Can you bring them out so I can see if they’re cute?"

"There are so many people here. Just took them from their homes last night, wouldn’t be good to show them now. We’ll talk tomorrow, okay? Puppies are at the Vegetable Garden Island and can’t be brought out now."

The two of them were whispering to each other and didn’t seem to care about the crowd of people outside the gate. They were actually discussing puppies!
