Chapter 81: Chapter 22: Someone’s Coming_1

Yan Fei spent the entire morning training dogs behind closed doors, except for briefly showing his face outside.

His morning passed comfortably, but over at the Si Family’s Brothers, everything was in chaos.

The wife of the Elder Man of Si Family was an early riser. She made breakfast for her child without noticing anything unusual. After several walks around the yard, she realized something wasn’t right. Their family dog was missing and she immediately cried out in alarm.

The Elder Man of Si Family woke up to the situation and was equally bewildered.

There were slight noises last night, but sound of a dog barking at someone passing by in the distance was nothing unusual in the quiet area where they lived. Their front door remained locked, so where could the dog have disappeared to?

As they started raising a ruckus, they called out to the Second Man of Si Family next door, who had lazily gotten out of bed at their cries. He was suddenly shocked awake with a realization: his family’s dog had just given birth to six puppies!

Wrapping himself in a jacket, he ran outside to check and instinctively began cursing.

Purebred wolf dogs were truly rare in Sancha River town and these two missing dogs were the pride and joy of the two families. Not only had the adult dogs disappeared, but all six puppies were gone too. As soon as they discovered this, both families exploded in anger like fireworks.

People raised dogs to protect their houses, and if the dog was obedient, it was treated like a family member. Most families would raise their dog until its death, and even arrange a burial mound for it, visiting from time to time.

And now, they were just gone?

Both families started cursing loudly. After a half-day of helpless frustration, it was the wife of the Second Man of Si Family who suggested, "Should we report this to the police? Those six puppies could sell for a good amount of money!"

That was true, in a place where purebred Black-back Big Wolf Dogs were rare, the presence of such dogs definitely added prestige and certainly fetched a good price!

"Shut up! Report to the police? Aren’t you embarrassed?" The Second Man of Si Family retorted, silencing his wife.

After causing a ruckus for half a day, they finally took care of sending their school-age children off with full stomachs.

As soon as the children left for school, the two families began discussing the matter angrily.

Concerning the investigation, the brothers knew quite many people of mixed-reputation in town and decided to ask around. However, the Second Man’s wife was not satisfied. She surreptitiously dragged her sister-in-law to the police station to file a report.

The townsfolk and the police were all well aware of the recent events. Chicken-stealing and dog-napping were also common offenses in the rural areas, even if the stolen dogs were their precious wolfhounds.

Since these two women were known for their arrogance and made a scene at the police station, they weren’t treated kindly. Many people gloated over their loss: "Proud all the time, serves you right, wonder who took it. If that much meat were sold, we would buy a couple pounds of dog meat to taste!"

After all this turmoil, it was almost noon.

And then they realized the situation was even worse!

Not only were the dogs missing, but the two men who had been dispatched out last night were also nowhere to be found.

The families of the two passers-by knew that they had gone out last night. Given their usual shady activities, their not returning home during the night was not at all unusual. They had other chores to attend to in the morning! But when it was almost noon and the two hadn’t shown up, they sent someone to ask around.

Puzzled inquiries throughout the town turned up nothing. Nobody knew anything.

COME NOON, the two families came looking for the Si Family’s Brothers: our head of household said he went out to play with you last night, but now he’s missing.

SI Family’s Brothers’ first reaction was that these two were really unreliable. They were given such a simple job and still managed to screw it up?

Upon further thought, he felt this was unlikely; after all, they’ve been hanging around for so long and wouldn’t be so unreliable. He then asked his wife if the police station got any news and found out that no one even mentioned it. This made him realize things had escalated!

Could it be that the two clashed with the youngster the night before and ended up taking a life?

This thought almost incited him to pack his bags and make a quick getaway. Luckily, he had an eye on them! They didn’t run. Although he was somewhat at fault for ordering them to throw firecrackers at the cattle farm, it was not a serious crime, even if they were caught. If a life was taken, it would be these two men’s problem!

If he ran away now, and the two disappeared, this matter might end up pinned on his brothers.

Regarding matters involving human lives, how many can their brothers bear on their shoulders? They might end up eating the copper-coated peanuts in the police station.

They casually talk about execution bullets being like peanuts all the time, but at this moment, no one was in the mood for jokes.

The two discussed, on one hand, they asked around if the men had gone somewhere else for other matters, on the other hand, they sent someone to circle around the cattle farm. The result spoke for itself. No one knew where these two went. Anyway, the person who returned from the cattle farm reported that nothing happened there.

After waiting for the inquiry results, they could do nothing more. That family’s member were missing, and they were waiting anxiously in their house! After some thought, they gathered some people and went to the cattle farm to seek justice.

When they arrived, Lin Baoguo was already there, having dinner. Over dinner, he asked Yan Fei, "Did you take the two dogs that the Si Family lost?"

Yan Fei, slurping his bowl of noodles, answered unflinchingly, "Uncle Baoguo, what are you talking about? I only have two dogs here, where would I put the puppies you’re talking about? What? You’re talking about the Si Family’s dogs, how would I know? Maybe their dogs didn’t want to be fed and took the puppies out for a poop-eating walk!"

Lin Baoguo was flabbergasted, "Are you going to stop being disgusting while we’re eating? What eating poop, peeing? I didn’t even mention six puppies and you already know? Are you sure it wasn’t you?"

Yan Fei refused to admit his actions, "I don’t know! I was sleeping last night. Don’t believe me? Ask Master Cheng and the two of them. They were on duty last night, and nothing happened."

Master Cheng and Aunt Yu Mei both pretended they didn’t hear anything.

"Never mind then, just be careful about guarding the farm. Don’t let them bother you!" Lin Baoguo had no tricks up his sleeve. Everyone has their personal interests? He was simply warning Yan Fei, letting him know that both families went to the police station, so he should hide the dogs well. Eating meat secretly is fine as long as no one sees it.

While they were speaking, the Si Family arrived with a group of people.

Seeing them approaching, Yan Fei stood at the door with his bowl, "Outdoor is your territory, do whatever you want, but anyone who dares step into my farm, don’t blame me if something happens to them!"

If he had said these words in the past, the Si Family’s brothers would not have taken him seriously. But now things were different. Before this crowd arrived, there were speculations that this kid might have gotten hold of the two men! Therefore, when Yan Fei said this, the crowd that was once shouting aggressively immediately quieted down.

Second Man of Si Family paused for a while before saying, "We admit we’ve been at fault these days. Let the people go and we’ll let everything go!"

Yan Fei slurped the last bit of soup from the bowl and then leisurely raised his head to look at him, "Who are you talking about? I don’t know— just because you say it’s over, it’s over? That’s wishful thinking!"

"You..." The Second Man of Si Family’s face turned pale. He wanted to step forward but was held by Elder Man of Si Family. He turned his head towards Yan Fei and said, "Young brother Yan, if you’ve captured someone, let them go as soon as possible. Do you know it’s illegal to detain people? It’s a minor issue for us, we can always negotiate about this land. If you want to buy it, we can sell it to you at the original price, it’s not a big deal! It would be bad for all of us if it gets out of hand."

"You guys start trouble when you want to and let it go when you want to too?" Yan Fei glanced at him, then turned around with his bowl to go inside, walking a few steps before turning back, "Remember, past this gate is my territory. Those who are not afraid of coming in and not being able to get out are welcome!"

Seeing Second Man of Si Family’s defiant look, Yan Fei chuckled, "You want to come in? Think clearly if you want to start a fight in my courtyard! Hehe... Come in and let’s see how many I can knock down!"

He turned around and left!

The Si Family’s brothers were grinning ear to ear while staring at Yan Fei for a while. They didn’t know why, but they felt a little nervous, so much so that they were rendered speechless for a moment.
