Chapter 590: Chapter 256: How Far Can You Hear _1
On the bumpy dirt road, despite the beautiful rural scenery on both sides, The Third Young Master Guo’s party was in no mood to appreciate it.
Before getting on the vehicle, The Fifth Young Master Guo wanted to make a call with the old school mobile phone in the car, but was scolded by The Third Young Master Guo. What was even more depressing was that the scolding was somewhat unjustified as the mobile phone had no signal at all.
He had also wanted to change his clothes before getting into the car, but that too, had earned him a scolding. Thus, the group of people squeezed into the car, still in their dirty, wet clothes. It was only after they had driven some distance on the main road and then turned onto a side road that they took clothes from the trunk and began to change. Their dirty and wet clothes didn’t matter as they were all males. The two females waited in a car, while these people changed their clothes on the side of the road.
The Fifth Young Master Guo had become irritable with everything. Worse yet, they didn’t know that from Sancha River town heading towards the county seat, there was only this small road — the same small road Yan Fei used to take to the county seat, usually used by sand transport vehicles.
Just as they were changing their clothes, several tractor-trailers hauling sand came honking, belching black smoke. The road was narrow to begin with, and The Third Young Master Guo’s two cars weren’t parked very close to the edge of the road. Seeing that they were two sedans, the tractor drivers dared not drive past, no matter how skilled they were.
Things got awkward. The driver at the front, with two sandworkers sitting on the guards of the wheels both sides, just stared as they went in and out of their cars to get clothes and change inside the vehicles. It should be mentioned that at this time, cars usually had no window film, so the inside of the cars was clearly visible from outside.
Seeing the two impressive sedans at this place, both the tractor drivers and the sand workers were intrigued as they watched from a distance. Such luxurious cars, but the people inside seemed like refugees. How strange! Nevertheless, they watched intently, particularly the ones at the back of the tractors, even coming closer to get a better look.
Being stared at by a group of dirty farmers, The Fifth Young Master Guo lost his temper in the car, cursing and asking his bodyguard to encourage the tractors to drive away. The driver of the first tractor grinned sheepishly: "Your cars seem quite precious, this road is too narrow. If we hit them, we wouldn’t be able to afford it. We’re on our last run for today and we’re in no hurry. You can take your time; we won’t obstruct you. We could wait until you’re ready..."
With the farmer saying that, what could the bodyguard do?
The Fifth Young Master Guo was furious: "If guns were allowed in this place, I would damned shoot all these country bumpkins..."
Hearing this, The Third Young Master Guo was also exasperated: "If you had a gun, would you shoot everyone here? Even the two birds in the sky?"
The atmosphere was tense as it was clear any misstep could escalate the situation. Their party was greater in number, but there were plenty of people on the tractors too. Most importantly, they weren’t in Hong Kong anymore. They were in somebody else’s territory and who knew which village these people were from. If they provoked these people enough to bring a large gang of people in retaliation, would they even be able to leave?
After changing their clothes and preparing to get in the car, The Third Young Master Guo ordered: "Da Jun come and drive one of the cars. Little Sister and Laowu come get in together, Xiaochun you get in this car too!"
Da Jun was his bodyguard who knew first-aid, while Xiaochun was one of The Fifth Young Master Guo’s more level-headed bodyguards.
As for Miss Nana and the other two bodyguards, they kept quiet, obediently getting into the second car.
As they got into the car again, The Third Young Master Guo still wore a gloomy expression. Even The Fifth Young Master Guo, who was discreetly trying to find a signal on his old-school mobile phone, got a scolding. Now, everyone in the car was silent, with no one talking.
Fortunately, the cars were spacious so it wasn’t too crowded, although the two injured people felt slightly uncomfortable.
"Go slow, my leg is injured!" The car jolted as it slowly returned to the main road, causing The Fifth Young Master Guo’s facial expression to worsen. He said to the driver, Da Jun, and then began muttering to himself: "I won’t let this matter rest... Once I get back, I’ll find people to come here, no matter how much it costs. If I don’t get revenge, I’ll have no face to see people anymore."
Just as he finished speaking, he added: "Hurry up and lose those old cars behind us, it’s unbearable hearing them..."
Quite true, no matter how good a car is, it couldn’t go fast on this battered road in a small town. The tractors happened to be going the same way and followed them. Several tractors making clattering noises together was undoubtedly frustrating.
"You keep complaining about this and that, if it weren’t for you, things wouldn’t have turned out like this..." The Sixth Miss Guo started to vent her dissatisfaction. Originally, her face with cosmetics mixed with tear streaks looked ridiculous. But now, taking advantage of their clothes changing, she cleaned her face and looked much better.
However, she couldn’t care less about her appearance at this moment. Like a little wild cat, she turned on The Fifth Young Master Guo with her claws bared.
"Cut it out!" The Third Young Master Guo, who had been quiet and looked unwell, suddenly bellowed. He looked helplessly at his two younger siblings after shouting. "Everyone, quiet down. I have a bad feeling about this..."
Upon hearing his words, the two who had been arguing fell silent. Their third brother rarely lost his temper, and this incident was truly terrifying. Both of them were aware they were in the wrong. One of them had convinced everyone to come along as the mastermind, and the other was a troublemaker. If it hadn’t been for these two, there wouldn’t have been such a mess!
The car grew quiet until it swayed onto the provincial road, gradually picking up speed. The Third Young Master Guo finally said: "Da Jun, slow down. There’s no need to rush..."
The Fifth Young Master Guo became anxious: "My leg needs medical attention as soon as possible! Xiaochun and his brother also broke several ribs..."
The injured bodyguard clutching his chest said: "Fifth Young Master, we are fine. You should take care of your leg. I can go sit in the back, and you can put your leg on the back seat..."
Before the Fifth Young Master Guo could respond, the Third Young Master Guo suddenly asked: "Da Jun, have you ever seen a martial arts master in action? Like that Yan from before, how many like him have you encountered?"
Da Jun, the bodyguard driving the car and who knew first aid, remained silent for a while before slowly shaking his head: "None. The jump from a not-so-high building he made with two other people last time could probably be done by a martial artist. But the strength he displayed today is something I’ve only seen in martial arts novels and movies. It’s impossible to achieve through training alone. It must be some innate superhuman strength. Considering the large population on the mainland, it’s not unusual for a few extraordinary talents to come around."
The injured bodyguard also nodded: "I’ve never seen a person with such strength either; someone who can throw something weighing more than a hundred catties hundreds of meters, or push us dozens of meters, is simply not humanly possible. When he charged at us at that speed, I thought we were done for. Then I realized I only had a few broken ribs. This kind of control of strength is simply beyond the reach of ordinary people!"
"So, it’s not something learned from martial arts training?" The Third Young Master Guo mumbled to himself. "Just before we got to the car, the Fifth mentioned going back to wipe out Yan’s entire family. I looked at Yan after I said that to the Fifth, guess how he reacted?"
Before Da Jun could respond, the Fifth Young Master Guo blurted out: "At a time like this, you still want us to guess?"
The Third Young Master Guo was not really trying to make a guessing game but was cut off mid-sentence. His mood even worse now, he said grimly: "He waved at us and shouted something. I felt like he was warning us to be careful on the road..."
"What’s wrong with being careful on the road?" The Fifth Young Master Guo retorted.
The Sixth Miss Guo shouted in frustration: "Can’t you just let the third brother finish..."
"Both of you, stop it!" The Third Young Master Guo finally calmed down, restraining both of them. "What he said didn’t matter, but he’s just a young man with a bad temper. We just offended him, do you think he’ll let it slide? I’m just a bit skeptical."
Without waiting for anyone else to speak, he continued: "Although we were quite a distance away at the time, I always feel that the look in his eyes when he looked at us was rather unusual. It was as if...as if we were already dead in his eyes...Da Jun, Xiaochun, do you think it’s possible for anyone to have such good hearing?"
The two bodyguards were silent for a long time before Da Jun finally said: "Hard to say, there are many extraordinary people in this world. We can’t guess if someone like him has other amazing abilities. Moreover, some people are naturally gifted with good hearing. The place where we were earlier was quite open, so if he has good hearing, it’s possible he heard what the Fifth Young Master said..."
"And what if he heard it? Is he going to chase after us to do something?" The Fifth Young Master Guo said, even though he was a bit nervous. One can imagine no one would be acting tough after just escaping from death’s door. It’s quite impressive that he can still be so nonchalant given the circumstances.
Even so, after he said this, he couldn’t help but glance back anxiously: "Da Jun, drive faster. Let’s go straight to the provincial city. I’ll find a hospital when we get there. I don’t believe he would chase us all the way there."
"If he really wants to chase after us, we can’t outrun him even in a car." Da Jun didn’t hesitate to refute the Fifth Young Master Guo after hearing this. "On these crappy roads here, our car definitely can’t outrun his motorcycle..."
As if to confirm his words, the car jolted a few more times. There were many villages along this stretch of road, the roads through these villages were generally terrible. It wasn’t rare to see piles of cow dung in the middle of the road being crushed by cars. Some places even dumped sewage directly onto the road, causing the condition of the road to be full of potholes, due to the traffic.
Moreover, there were many large trucks running on this highway. Back then, these trucks didn’t have any concept of overloading. As long as the truck could still move, they dared to load as much as they wanted, regardless of how much they had to pay. After such heavy trucks routinely using these roads, was it any surprise that the roads were in such a state?
