Chapter 570: Chapter 241 Bowing to You_1

Secretary Jiao accompanied Yan Fei on a tour of the cattle farm. There was no rehearsed routine; Yan Fei led him directly to where everything was happening with no pretense.

After looking around, Secretary Jiao was genuinely surprised. He asked Yan Fei, "Did all of this come from your cattle farm?"

It was not surprising that Secretary Jiao was amazed. He was looking at the breeding bulls on the cattle farm. Each of the eleven fat, robust breeding bulls, as well as the young calves being prepared to become breeding bulls, were extraordinary even though they weren’t fully grown yet.

Most people viewed Yan Fei as a lucky kid, not even quite a young adult. It was one thing for a cattle farm to be profitable, perhaps that could be credited to luck, but breeding bulls was something else.

Yan Fei nodded, "Yes! We began raising the larger ones last year, and they were only sent for breeding after the New Year."

"I may have underestimated you. You’re forward-thinking and bold. Right from the beginning of this cattle farm, you knew to breed your own bulls. That’s large scale thinking," Secretary Jiao said, pausing for a moment before adding, "But direct breeding? Isn’t that kind of a waste?"

Yan Fei didn’t pay much attention to the compliment. Breeding bulls was his initial goal from the start. But the last part got him puzzled: "How is it wasteful?"

After another pause, Secretary Jiao said: "There’s a professional breeding farm in the county west of here that was established in the 80s in cooperation with foreigners. Your bulls are certainly not worse than theirs. Do you know about the artificial insemination technology used for our native cattle? It’s the most advanced in the country. If you were to use that on your breeding bulls... wouldn’t that result in even more offspring?"

Upon hearing this, Yan Fei nodded. He hadn’t noticed that. While he was familiar with procedures like artificial insemination from watching the veterinarians, the use of such high-tech methods in his own cattle farm was beyond his expectations.

Secretary Jiao continued: "I’ll tell you more about this later. Can’t make any promises right now though. If I manage to arrange it, you’ll owe me one. If not, then pretend I never mentioned it."

Yan Fei quickly agreed, "No matter how it turns out, I’ll be grateful to Secretary Jiao!"

"Don’t thank me yet!" Secretary Jiao laughed. "If you manage to implement cooperative cattle farming throughout the whole town and county, there’s a chance that I might get a promotion. Then, we might not know who should be thanking who!"

Such honesty was refreshing and certainly not common among government officials.

Mayor Chen and other officials from the county, trailing behind the pair, were puzzled by how congenial they seemed. It was well known that

Yan Fei could be fiendishly stubborn. Lin and the others from the Forestry Bureau, especially Old Wang, must still remember the incident involving their office doors. It was certainly surprising to see Yan Fei getting along so well with a high-ranking official like Secretary Jiao.

The reason was simple: others weren’t ’bullish’ enough and didn’t understand ’bulls’ – not the ’awesome’ kind of bull, but actual bulls!

Yan Fei always welcomed discussions about cattle farming. Secretary Jiao also had some life experience and had even raised bulls before, so naturally, they had plenty to talk about.

Try talking to Yan Fei about anything else, like popular music for instance, apart from girls, he had no patience to listen to anyone else!

After a while, Secretary Jiao quietly asked Yan Fei, "I heard you’re also involved in other projects besides this one, right? The ones not around here? Can we go have a look?"

"What kind of project?" Yan Fei asked, perplexed. He then realized, "Oh, you mean the vegetable greenhouse and my earthworms? Sure, we can have a look. The greenhouse just got planted with watermelon seeds, so there’s not much to see yet. As for earthworms, it’s not a pretty sight when they’re too many..."

"Let’s go see it! How bad can it be? Do you think I haven’t seen it before?" Secretary Jiao replied mysteriously. "I heard you want to keep that project a secret. We’ll bring fewer people, so your secret is safe. Are your tiger and bear over there? And don’t let those two golden eagles fly away. It’s tiring. When we get there, you should call them down!"

"Alright! As long as you don’t mind, it’s all good!" Yan Fei nodded.

Indeed, they didn’t bring many people over, not even the photographer from the county that Secretary Jiao usually had tagging along.

When they got closer to the bamboo forest, someone quietly suggested to Secretary Jiao: "Why don’t we just have a look from a distance?"

Secretary Jiao waved his hand dismissively, "No problem. See? Even Boss Yan isn’t scared. What are we to be afraid of?"

Yan Fei also laughed, "No problem, they’re very well-behaved."

With that, he gave a whistle, and the two golden eagles up in the sky landed on the rooftop. As soon as they landed, the two started helping each other remove the colorful streamers and bags from their bodies, making everyone laugh.

Secretary Jiao joked, "During today’s grand opening, these two golden eagles indeed did contribute their share. They added quite a bit of color to the ceremony!"

Yan Fei was quite pleased, "All the effort put into raising them finally paid off. This was minor work to them considering how long I’ve been nurturing them. They sure got off easy!"

As they moved closer, aside from Secretary Jiao and those from the town who had seen the tiger before, the officials from the county became noticeably uneasy.
