Chapter 566: Chapter 239 Turns Out to Be a Big Deal_1

By the time I returned to the cow farm, everyone had already started eating. While having her meal, Xu Xiaoyan was still assigning tasks.

Yan Fei quietly went into the kitchen, scooped up a bowl of rice, and joined them. He listened as Xu Xiaoyan delegated tasks: "The cows we bought this morning have been moved into the shed. This really put everyone through a lot of work. Heizi, you guys should help Old Gao get all the ear tags on. Make sure you register the prices clearly. Aunt Yu Mei, you should keep track of the records here. I’ll take care of the liquor store. I also have some accounts to run. There are a lot of cows these days, so I understand it’ll be tough on everyone. But after the opening ceremony the day after tomorrow, those cows will be led away and everyone will get a break."

Yan Fei also had work assigned to him. When the young lady asked if he was going to school in the afternoon, hearing his answer that he wouldn’t, she sighed and gave him another task: "Then, you can spend the afternoon cleaning up the cow farm, tidying up the areas that require it. The front gate will be finished this afternoon, right in time for the opening ceremony the day after tomorrow. Remember to clean up all the nooks and crannies around here, so that it looks tidy when visitors come..."

Actually, there was no need to assign these chores. For the few people on the farm, it was quite clear who was capable of doing what. However, the young lady had been the most hardworking these days. She was learning to help Yan Fei with the farm chores, and everyone was happy to support her.

Because a company had been established, many things needed to be put in writing. It wasn’t as informal as before; at the very least, the accounts had to be kept properly. These were things that only the young lady could do.

But she also found it quite challenging. She had only learned a little financial knowledge from Classmate Yangyang in the dormitory - that is, from the Little Dark-skinned Girl. Now, she was realizing that it wasn’t quite enough. However, no one else on the cow farm could do this work. Not to mention doing it, even if she handed over the completed accounts, they wouldn’t understand. She had no choice but to tough it out.

Luckily, the accounting work was quite simple, as most of the transactions were expenses. The farm sold cows only once a week so it was just a matter of keeping track of the cash flow.

Only after lunch did Yan Fei start discussing with the young lady his impending entry into high school. She was speechless. She recalled how many sleepless nights she had pulled to get into a good high school, but now he was about to go to high school without even taking an entrance exam. This really left her speechless.

However, she was happy for him. Regardless what happens in college, at least his high school admissions is settled. As for the future, who can tell? Maybe this guy could actually achieve his dream of being a ’Docter’ in ten years!

The two were getting all chummy, and if no one had come to interrupt, they might have spent the rest of the afternoon like this.

The one who came to interrupt was a young man. He ran over and asked, "Boss Yan, we’re just about to finish the lettering here. Our Boss Ma wants to know if you have any other work for us. If not, we won’t come tomorrow!"

Yan Fei recognized this guy; despite his muddy appearance, he was a big shot. He had hardly attended any school. When he first started signing for the cows, he couldn’t even write his name properly.

It was astonishing how someone like him, given a model of the text, could take a piece of string and, without the use of a ruler, precisely enlarge the text and reproduce it in cement above the door. All he needed to do then was paint it so it would last for years.

Yan Fei thought for a moment before asking him, "Are you guys busy these days?"

"Not really. We just finished a big job in the countryside recently, and now we’re building a small building north of the town. We have more people than we can use, so you can tell me if you have something in mind." The young man could tell that he had tasks in mind as soon as he heard this.

"Nothing big, just want to build a couple more large sheds by the river. Right where I plant my vegetables, but it’s not for planting. I want a brick and dirt shed. The roof should not be that asbestos tile. Do we have something else that’s cheap? I don’t think that material is very good in terms of insulation."

"Then you might as well get a thatch roof!" The young man answered quickly. "I don’t mention this to others because it’s time-consuming to make it right, and it’s hard to estimate the labor cost. But to be honest, there’s nothing wrong with thatched roofs. You don’t have to worry about the sun and the wind. It can easily last for a few years. If you build a thick earthen wall underneath it, I guarantee the insulation will be excellent."

Yan Fei thought it seemed practical. The far-off location didn’t need something fancy, and the most primitive method might be the most suitable. He nodded his head, saying: "Then, you go back and tell Uncle Ming about it, I’ll go with that plan. Don’t worry about the wages. If he suffers a loss, I’ll make up for it."

The young man chuckled in embarrassment: "No, no, no, the current wage rate is fine. If you want to, just change the roof later when we’re doing the shed. It’ll be more convenient to do it while we’re at it. To be honest, everyone is eager to work for you. Your meals are good! Two meals a day and a little wine at night is more than fair. We’re all fighting to come!"

Yan Fei tossed him two packs of cigarettes: "I love flattery, don’t be shy!"

Upon seeing the cigarettes, the young man grinned from ear to ear, stuffed them into his pocket like precious objects, and happily ran off.

After this interruption, Miss Xu Xiaoyan urged Yan Fei to clean up the cow farm quickly. But after strolling around the farm with a broom in hand, he thought it looked perfect and didn’t need cleaning at all. When he came back, seeing that the young lady was very busy, he didn’t want to disturb her, so he just slipped away to the riverside.

After seeing that no one was around, he stripped off his clothes swiftly and plunged into the river.

Once he was underwater, it felt like he was entering a dinosaur world. He swam in the big lake of the ring island, thoroughly amused by the small fish all around in the water.
