Chapter 531: Chapter 218 Director of the Credit Cooperative_1
Yan Fei was busy. With a puff of smoke, he ran over to Pang Fa, saying, "Brother Fa, are you slaughtering cows today? I’ll come by in the afternoon to pick up the meat. By the way, how’s the beef selling?"
"Haven’t you noticed how well I’ve been living? If I couldn’t sell the beef, would I be this comfortable? Look at my dog, he gets a big bone to gnaw on every day!" Pang Fa took a sip of his egg tea after stuffing a piece of beef into his mouth. "Have you eaten? I don’t feel like cooking, so this is it. There’s still some in the pot; just help yourself..."
The dog, which was actually a gift from Yan Fei, wagged its tail at Yan Fei’s arrival and then buried its head to gnaw at a bone.
"No need, I’ve had breakfast." Yan Fei dragged a chair over and sat down. "Did you reduce the price? Are you not making a profit?"
"Don’t worry, if I wasn’t making money, I would’ve told you already. Do you think I would be polite with you?" Pang Fa said proudly. "It’s all thanks to you. Usually, most of the beef sold is to restaurants, and they usually buy calves. But since you bought hundreds of calves this year, both the calves and mature cows have increased in price. Last time, a restaurant owner negotiated with me to lower the price and take all of our beef! I didn’t agree! I can sell it in small quantities myself. Why would I give them a deal!"
"As long as you’re making money, it’s fine. I plan to sell some of the beef in the provincial city where prices are higher. I was thinking about cutting the price for you if you couldn’t make a profit. Seems like that’s not necessary now." Yan Fei said with a big grin.
"No need, I was worried that you may not be making much! However, one cow a week is a bit too few! I sell out the cooked beef in just two days..."
"There’s nothing else I can do; the remaining ones haven’t matured yet. We’ll have to wait at least two more months. During these two months, we can only slaughter one a week. I’m mainly worried that if we kill them all at once, the supply to the provincial city will be interrupted." Yan Fei explained to him.
"No problem, I was just saying. When the weather gets warmer and you plan to slaughter cows daily, please let me know in advance so I can contact a few big customers."
"Sure! But won’t you neglect this store if you’re selling beef every day?" Yan Fei asked.
Pang Fa used to travel every few days, and only sold daily during the New Year holiday. If he did that year-round, he won’t be able to tend to the store.
"If you’re slaughtering cows daily, I won’t need this store!" Pang Fa naturally replied, "My younger brother doesn’t want to go to school anyway. I’ll pass on this store to him and focus on selling beef."
"Can you sell hundreds of cows by the end of the year?" Yan Fei bantered with him.
"Um..." Pang Fa took a deep breath. "That’s a real challenge, any thoughts?"
"Not yet. I’ll have to check how many cows are available for delivery at the end of the year. Then I’ll think about it. They will definitely sell, it’s just a matter of price! If not, I’ll fatten them up for a few more days and sell them slowly. I know a couple of people in the provincial city who can help. It’s too early to worry about this, we’ll see when the time comes!"
"That’s true!" Pang Fa nodded. "But if they’re live cows, that’s a significant loss. If you could process them yourself, it’d be great. I make more money selling cooked beef than raw. Why don’t you just open a beef-processing factory? Make beef jerky or freeze it beforehand. You could do it like the Meat Processing Factory in the county, it’ll definitely be more profitable than selling live cows!"
"That’s not a bad idea, but it’ll have to wait until I have money! I’m broke right now! I still owe Uncle Ming money for building the house..." Yan Fei said self-mockingly.
"You’re still poor..." Pang Fa despised him. "I guess I’ll have to beg for a living then!"
While they were chatting, a man in his thirties ran down the nearby village wall and glanced inside when he passed the door. However, after he had already passed, he turned around and came back.
Upon seeing the man, Pang Fa stood up and greeted, "Director Yao, you’re running a lot later than usual today, aren’t you? Why don’t you come in and rest for a bit?"
The man Pang Fa called "Director Yao" smiled and replied, "Yes, yes, I saw you had a guest so I decided to stop by. This must be Boss Yan from the cattle farm, right?"
Yan Fei stood up when he heard Yao referring to him, "Yes, I’m Yan Fei. Please, have a seat, Director Yao!"
Director Yao, smiling, said, "Busy day, Boss Yan? Don’t worry, I won’t stay. I heard you’re not planning to buy more cows these days, is that right?"
"Yes, I ran out of money!" Yan Fei nodded. He didn’t know what Director Yao did, but Pang Fa called him a director. He hadn’t seen him in the local government office, but was surprised by Yao’s accurate information about him!
"No money? Boss Yan, you’re short of cash? Ha ha, it’s good to have no money... it’s good to have no money..." Director Yao said cheerfully. However, Yan Fei felt uncomfortable with the way he was talking.
Perhaps realizing he’d misspoken, Director Yao hastily apologized, "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything by that... will you be returning to the cattle farm this morning, Boss Yan?"
"Yes, I will. Is there something you need?" Yan Fei asked puzzledly. He was annoyed: If I’m not going back, does that mean I should stay here?!
That guy just said that Yan Fei having no money was a good thing, which really annoyed him.
"Nothing, nothing. I just wanted to visit you. I’ll be dropping by your place later with Old Pan from the Armed Forces Department, so don’t turn us away!" Director Yao said familiarly.
He had even mentioned Old Pan from the Armed Forces Department, so how could Yan Fei not welcome him? Yan Fei immediately nodded and said, "You’re always welcome. It’s my honor to have you two as guests. I’ll go back and wait for you...."
"Alright then, you guys continue chatting. I’m going to go home and change." Director Yao bid farewell and left.
Once Yao was a little distance away, Yan Fei muttered, "Why can’t this guy say what he needs now? Does he have to wait till he’s at my cattle farm to talk? What a weird guy..."
Pang Fa chuckled and said, "I reckon he wanted to see you for something good. Do you know where he’s a director?"
Yan Fei shook his head, "No idea!"
"Man, you are something!" Pang Fa exclaimed, before giving him a thumbs up with his chopstick-wielding hand. "Many local business owners want to get to know Director Yao, but you don’t even know who he is."
"Just spit it out! You’re starting to sound like Heizi!" Yan Fei grumbled. "Why is it strange that I don’t know him?"
"It’s very strange. Stranger than it snowing in the summer," Pang Fa exaggerated. "This is the director of the Credit Cooperative, the top guy. Who among the local business owners wouldn’t want to know him? If you know him, when you need the cash, there’s no need to panic — getting a loan is as easy as him just saying the word. There are so many people who want to bootlick him. I’ve seen people accompany him on his morning run every day, just to get to know him! And it’s not just one or two people, they have no shame and just cosied up to him!"
