Chapter 526: Chapter 213 Stay for Dinner_1

Time really does fly when you’re busy, and finally, all the calves were sheltered. Yan Fei glanced at the time and realized, goodness, lunchtime was almost over.

He quickly called for Ma Chao, asking him to ride the motorcycle to buy noodles, then notified the militia who’d been helping and their families: "None of you should leave midday, count how many people came and sign in. We’ll have lunch here, then continue signing and taking fingerprints this afternoon!"

"With so many people, Boss Yan, do you have a pot big enough?" someone teased from the crowd.

"The pot is not big, but I know how to cook noodles in batches. I don’t believe I can’t feed you all!" Yan Fei replied with a smile.

"Hahaha, that would take several pots..." The crowd burst into laughter, and someone shouted, "Forget it, there are too many of us, and it’s not far to the town. Let’s go back there for lunch and you won’t have to go through all the trouble!"

With that, the crowd started moving outside, with the rest soon ready to leave as well.

It seemed that these people only thought he was being polite, considering there were so many of them!

"Don’t go, don’t go! I really mean it, it’s not just courtesy, I seriously want to treat you all to dinner! Brother Chao just went to buy noodles on his motorcycle, if you don’t stay, I’ll be left with so many uncooked noodles, what a waste!" Yan Fei quickly pulled on one of the leaders and shouted.

"Really? With this many of us?" The militia man he grabbed was surprised when he saw that Yan Fei really did want to serve them.

"I’ve already said, I’ll just make more noodles, one batch after another. No worries about having too many people. Nobody leave, find a place to rest and wait for the noodles to arrive." Yan Fei pulled them and walked back in. "We might not have good dishes, but we have plenty of eggs from all the chickens in the field. We can make egg noodles. If anyone is bothered by this, they can leave, everyone else stay!"

Heizi and his friends also encouraged others, "Everyone stop leaving, do you think Brother Fei would joke with you? Don’t go, don’t go!"

Finally convinced that he genuinely wanted to feed them, the crowd changed their minds and decided to stay, joking along.

"Hey! What are those people over there doing? So they really didn’t like my food, huh?" Yan Fei spotted a few people leaving from the other side and quickly shouted, "I said nobody leaves! Don’t be shy. For today, I’ll treat each of you to a bowl. Tomorrow, I’ll go from house to house eating everyone’s food in return. I won’t starve for the whole year!"

Most of the people present were young. They all laughed despite themselves after hearing this. A few individuals who had left on the other side then felt embarrassed and said, "We aren’t here to receive calves. We were here to sell them!"

Two of the sellers were even more direct. They admitted outright that they were not from Sancha River village.

"It doesn’t matter where you are from! It’s mealtime, and you all have been waiting for me for a while. I can’t just let you wait in vain, everyone stay, everyone stay! Having all of you here, experienced cattle raisers, can provide some insights on cattle rearing, making this meal worth serving! Old Ou, you guys go and bring those people back..."

Yan Fei didn’t mind. He gestured with his hand and shouted, "Every person in this field counts! Everyone wait! No matter where you are from, I can definitely provide a meal now that it’s lunchtime!"

This meal wasn’t free, but it wasn’t for the reason he claimed. He actually wanted those people to spread his name around, letting people know he bought calves. How much would a bowl of noodles cost? After this meal, once people start talking about it, wouldn’t they bring their calves to him? That would save him a lot of trouble!

Ma Chao was not quick in returning with the noodles. It was a bit late, and the noodle shops in the town had sold out, they would definitely have to make more. By the time he returned, the water in the large pot was already boiling.

Fuel-efficient stoves are fast, and the noodles were cooked in rounds. There weren’t enough bowls, so they used pots, plates, and ladles. In any case, everyone didn’t care that much, as long as they could eat their fill.

Heizi was also wandering around, greeting those who were eating, "We prepared this temporarily; there are not enough eggs, we didn’t have time to buy more. Bear with us for this meal, we’ll prepare better next time!"

After he finished speaking, he told everyone about his Breeding Bull plan, asking people to convey it to those who own cows back home. Although it was intended for those present to spread the word, it was mainly for the people there to hear it.

How simple! Since there are weaned calves for sale, there must be cows at home. Now that the calf has been sold, the cows at home can reproduce again, and these are all his potential customers.

The terms that allow for the breeding fee to be returned in the cattle farm are pretty appealing for the farmers. So, the remaining problem was one of trust in the farm.

People from their township don’t have to be mentioned – they would definitely trust it. For those who travel from outside, the good things that the militia had just said about Yan Fei played a crucial role. It wasn’t all of them, but at least the vast majority were willing to trust the cattle farm.

Don’t underestimate the few dozens of dollars. You have to wait for the calf to be weaned, and that could take more than a year. The waiting period would be excruciatingly long, but surprisingly there are people who are willing to wait.

In Sancha River, there’s a tradition when selling sweet potato noodles. It’s called "battling". The people selling the noodles on the streets and in the villages would all yell, "Sweet potato noodles, we have ’battle’". This ’battle’ doesn’t mean fighting in a war; it means selling on credit.

Noodles aren’t like watermelons or apples, where you can sample them to see what they taste like. You only really know how good the noodles are when you cook them.

’Battling’ means you first take the noodles home to try, the noodle seller would note the credit, and after a week or even a month, the seller would come to collect the payment. If you find out the noodles are not pure sweet potato, you can refuse to pay.

There certainly are people who misuse this practice, but those are the minority. Most still hold a sense of integrity when it comes to debt repayment.

This is a basic issue of trust between individuals, or rather, integrity. If such trust and integrity exist, one can do business in whatever way; but once it’s breached, it’s a tragedy. Regardless of the method, risk is present. Even when deposits are paid and contracts are signed, unless the cooperation is successful till the end, there are people who can’t sleep soundly.

Luckily, such trust is widely present today, and this is why the cattle farm’s upfront pricing with refunds can survive.

Yan Fei will definitely have to honor his commitments for the road ahead to get easier. He will face some problems, like ill calves being brought in. While unlikely, these situations will definitely occur. By then, he could only lose money to gain popularity. If he loses his good reputation, he won’t be able to continue in this manner.
