Chapter 505: Chapter 196: Little Black Lightning_1

Where exactly am I now?

Yan Fei looked up at the sky full of stars and felt the thin layer of fluffy snow under his bare feet, filled with questioning thoughts.

Am I in the North Pole? Or the South Pole?

That evening, after feeding tigers and black bears and having a hearty meal himself, he started flying aimlessly under the starlit sky of the dinosaur’s world.

Saying aimlessly is not accurate; when he was exploring, he mostly flew in a straight line, far enough from his original landing place on the beach. But the actual area was not too large.

Taking into consideration that he was quite busy these days without even a moment to find the bird that looks like a small black lightning bolt, he decided to expand his scope of exploration that night. And while he was flying, he discovered that the number of dinosaurs below was seemingly reducing.

Especially the medium and large sized dinosaurs, those huge Sauropoda dinosaurs similar in appearance to Seismosaurus and Futalognkosaurus, which can be clearly seen even from the sky despite low visibility.

These dinosaurs usually moved around open grasslands and their figures could be seen anywhere within the terrain he had explored so far.

At first, he didn’t pay much attention to it, but when he realized he hadn’t seen any of those dinosaurs for a while, he felt something was really wrong.

Not long after, atop a mountain, the location where he was now standing, he discovered numerous white spots.

It was only after he descended that he found out those were patches of snow.

All along, he thought that there were no distinct seasons in the dinosaur world, that it was always like summer. Now, discovering the snow he was quite surprised.

While he casually strolled around, rustling noises came from under a relatively small tree. He paused, looking in the direction of the sound and shortly after, saw an animal slightly larger than a rabbit emerge.

It looked like an oversized rat, but with longer legs.

It was a mammal. Even though the Theory of Evolution suggests that mammals have evolved in a superior way, these creatures don’t lead an ideal life. Especially when compared to those small mammals that he had seen living on the island.

After walking a few steps, he felt the soft leaves beneath his feet in a snowless patch and noticed that the tree was not just some pine or cypress tree, rather, it was a Ginkgo tree which is referred to as a ’living fossil’ in the biological world.

In the plant kingdom, there are way too many species termed as ’living fossils’, such as Metasequoia, Water Pine, Silver Fir, and Pseudolarix amabilis etc.

These ’fossils’ could be found anywhere in the dinosaur world, thus, he was kind of used to their presence.

In fact, there existed a Ginkgo tree in the Sancha River village, a truly unique sight—yes, it was the only one within a diameter of hundreds of miles.

It was a Ginkgo tree big enough for four people to hug around. Almost everyone in the village had visited it at least once. In particular, students who had nothing to do over the weekends, would often go there to look at the tree.

Back in the days, there was nothing interesting to watch on television during daytime. From time to time, they would play a black and white square shaped pattern and expect you to watch them – during the non-programming time, this pattern would be displayed not only at night but also every Tuesday afternoon.

Years later, countless people would forfeit their dignity just to appear on television; who would remember those times when there were no programs to run on the television!

The Ginkgo tree, which was not so big, next to Yan Fei was slightly larger than the one in Sancha River village. There was no helping it, this was the world of dinosaurs. If such a tree was considered huge then other trees couldn’t possibly be named as ’huge huge tree’ or ’huge huge huge tree’, right?

Not far from him was a large dark forest. Yan Fei thought for a while and then started walking towards it.

While he was in the sky, he couldn’t see the forest clearly, let alone the white snow. But as he got closer, he discovered that in addition to the thin layer of snow beneath his feet, there were also decomposed Ginkgo leaves.

It was quite a large Ginkgo forest, but unfortunately for Yan Fei, it was of no use.

In his view, these trees were not as useful as the common pine and cypress trees, which at least could serve as firewood. Even if these trees bore fruit, he couldn’t take the fruits back with him.

As for whether these trees were beautiful or not, there were numerous bizarre plants all over the dinosaur world. Even Ginkgo trees itself could be classified into dozens of different kinds.

If these kinds of trees were commonly found in modern society, perhaps he could transplant some into his own land to create shade in the summer. But these were called ’living fossils’ of the plant kingdom. Even if he tried to transplant a few trees to his own land, there was no way to explain how these trees, which needed thousands of years to grow to their full size, had been transplanted.

Perhaps he could take out some saplings and plant them in his own land. Though growing slowly, they would still count as rare items. Anyway, he had planned to plant willows and roses by the river. Planting a few Ginkgo trees was also a plausible idea as long as they were saplings; he could say they were purchased from elsewhere, who would then bother questioning?

Furthermore, in the dinosaur world, these saplings which were found in the crevices of the large trees were losing the battle for sunlight and could hardly grow anyway. So, removing them wouldn’t pose any harm to the environment of this place.

While he was engrossed in wild thoughts, walking around the quiet Ginkgo forest as if he was stroll-pacing, suddenly he was attracted by some noise from a distance.
