Chapter 498: Chapter 190: Selling Cakes, Selling Cakes, Selling Cakes_1
"Are you sure this is the beef from the cow you just slaughtered? I’m familiar with Wan City where it was killed; it’s three hundred kilometers away from here. And I know the traffic conditions here too. Do they match your speed of delivery? Listen, it’s not gentlemanly to interrupt someone’s sleep, especially at the peak of my slumber in the early morning..."
"If you don’t wake up soon the meat will go bad! Experience is the best teacher, I can always find a faster hitchhike. Right now, I am downstairs at your restaurant with freshly slaughtered beef, guaranteed to be the best. You can come and see it for yourself. If you miss it, it’s gone." Yan Fei urged, hearing the grumbling foreigner on the other end of the phone. "Besides, you clearly haven’t been asleep at all, you sound pretty awake to me."
Truth be told, he was not particularly good at business negotiations. However, since the other party was desperate, he didn’t mind interrupting their sleep this early, even if it was a bit impolite.
Actually, he didn’t think he disrupted their sleep at all. He had overheard a woman’s voice complaining over the phone. It seemed like he had interrupted something much more important than their sleep. After all, he wasn’t a clueless youngster anymore, he knew better.
"Alright then, I’ll be there in about... ten... twenty minutes..." said Will at the other end of the phone, abruptly hanging up.
This guy’s sense of time was somewhat distorted. Despite him claiming he’d arrive in twenty minutes, Yan Fei was kept waiting for nearly half an hour before a white car pulled up. Spotting Will in the passenger’s seat from a distance, he wondered how on earth did everyone he met own a car these days? There weren’t that many cars on the streets!
A stylish middle-aged woman was driving the car. Upon seeing Yan Fei, her eyebrows raised in surprise. Whether it was because of his appearance or something else, he couldn’t tell. Yan Fei, on the other hand, wasn’t paying any attention to her. As soon as Will got out of the car, he complained loudly, "Dear Yan... Xiao Fei, if the beef you brought is not top-notch, I swear I’ll sue you for harassment... seriously..."
It was still considerably early, Yan Fei had been waiting for this guy for half an hour and it wasn’t even daybreak yet. He held up the bag for Will, "You can check it out for yourself. Can you see it clearly under the street light?"
"Wow... holy..." Before Will could finish, he reached over to grab the bag of meat from Yan Fei’s hands. Considering Will’s robust stature, Yan Fei willingly handed him the bag. However, Will’s strength was apparently not as he anticipated and he nearly fell over from the weight of the bag.
"Are you okay, Will?" The middle-aged woman immediately scrambled over. Initially, she was planning to head upstairs once the car was properly parked. But upon seeing Will stumble, she dashed over to help.
"Are you alright?" Yan Fei extended a hand to steady him, taken aback. The business deal wasn’t even closed yet, and if anything happens to the customer, then that would be the end of it.
"That was my mistake. I should have known just how heavy that bag of beef would be. But when I saw you carrying it so effortlessly, I forgot to take my own strength into account." Will was pretty sensible, he apologized to Yan Fei first, then turned to the woman, "I’m fine, dear Linda. You know, I’m not that weak. I was just caught off guard. Look..."
He then walked over and attempted to lift the bag of beef to show the middle-aged woman. Upon seeing that he was unscathed, she finally heaved a sigh of relief, "Let’s take the beef upstairs! The lighting by the roadside isn’t quite adequate."
As they ascended the stairs, Yan Fei noticed Will struggling to carry the bag. It was mainly because the bag’s surface was slightly dirty and Will didn’t want to get his clothes dirty, therefore, he was making a grand effort.
"I’ll take it!" Yan Fei reached over and took the bag from him.
"Alright then!" Seeing Yan Fei effortlessly hoisting both bags, and keeping them clear from his body, Will decided to not put up a fight anymore. "Dear Xiao Fei, is this a part of the magic of your Chinese Kung Fu? It allows a man of your stature, who doesn’t look particularly bulky, to easily carry up an around fifty kilograms bag of beef in each hand up the stairs?"
"Of course! I’ve been practicing martial arts since I was five, for almost a decade now." Yan Fei boasted proudly. It seemed that proper attire was indeed essential. The oversized clothes he wore when he stepped out served its purpose pretty well, concealing his physique.
Thud...
Will’s foot slipped, his knee knocking against the staircase. Unlike the previous incident, he was seriously hurt this time and immediately gasped in pain.
"Will, are you alright?" The middle-aged woman quickly turned around to help him, looking anxious. "Let me take a look at your injury quickly."
Yan Fei was left speechless, it was just a harmless bump. Sure, it would be painful, but it wouldn’t be severe. The woman’s overreaction was unwarranted.
"I’m fine, it was just a little bump." Will stood upright, testing his leg. "See, I’m totally fine..."
"You’re only fifteen?" Upon hearing the woman going to open the door, Will turned back to Yan Fei in shock, "Okay! I think I misspoke. If you are only fifteen years old and have such a physique, you are already considered quite strong, right? So, before we start negotiating business, can I request you, in the capacity of a friend, to teach me your Kung Fu skills? I know your tradition, I need to acknowledge you as my master first, right? Don’t worry, I’ve been prepared to do so for many years before I came to China!"
"You’re too old, it’s not suitable." Yan Fei responded solemnly. "Our Kung Fu requires you to start practicing from a young age. Older people simply can’t make much progress."
"I just want to learn martial arts and I don’t expect to master it. I can swear I won’t teach it to others!" Will affirmed fervently, though his odd pronunciation of the word ’master’ ruined his momentum. "It’s a new era now, perhaps you should abandon your prejudice. Don’t you think? Or do you need to test me first?"
Yan Fei placed the bag of beef on the ground and opened it to show the meat inside, "Let’s focus on the beef for now! I am here to do business with you, not to take on disciples!"
"But it doesn’t get in the way, in our opinion... oh, holy..." Will was halfway through his sentence when he saw the beef and immediately lost all interest in the Kung Fu disciple matter. He was so astonished at the sight of the beef that he exclaimed loudly, "Such a good quality beef and you’re carrying it in such a bag, even placing it on the floor, you...you...you’ve total disrespect for it..."
He lifted the bag of beef onto the table, "Dear Xiao Fei, I must tell you, you’re disrespecting the beef. A top-quality ingredient like this should not be carried in such a bag, at least, at the very least..."
"At least it should be placed on the table, right?" Yan Fei said, placing the other bag onto the table. Seeing Will’s astonishment, Yan Fei breathed a sigh of relief, "This is just the top layer. You should look at all of it before drawing conclusions."
The elegant middle-aged woman who hadn’t spoken to Yan Fei so far, apart from showing a superior attitude towards Will, also voiced her surprise, "Young man, is this beef from a cow you raised yourself? A local breed?"
"Guaranteed to be purebred Wan City yellow cattle, you can visit my ranch if you don’t believe me." Yan Fei replied confidently.
"Alright! It’s not that I don’t believe you, I just feel, feel..." The middle-aged woman stuttered.
"This is specially fattened yellow cattle, different from the ordinary ones used for farming." Seeing the woman’s fairly arrogant behavior, Yan Fei took the initiative to explain further.
