Chapter 442: Chapter 141 Bringing Daughter-in-law Home_2
Yan Fei nodded, pulling out the gift he had carefully chosen from his worn-out canvas bag, lined with python leather. "Here, it’s for you!"
"Wow!" the girl exclaimed, taking the portable CD player from him. "When did you buy this? It must have cost quite a bit, right?"
"Not that much, it’s not foreign-made after all, try it."
"Okay!"
Watching the girl skillfully putting on the headphones and hitting the play button on the CD player, Yan Fei curiously asked, "Have you listened to it before?"
"Yes!" Xu Xiaoyan nodded. "Laoda in my dormitory has one, but hers is not as good looking or as big as this one!"
After saying this, the girl gave Yan Fei a look, and seeing him looking slightly taken aback, she burst out laughing.
No wonder Yan Fei looked surprised. He had spent only a few dozen yuan on this thing, but he’d seen the kind Laoda owned: small, delicate, definitely smaller than what he’d purchased. Hers were a silver-grey or silver-white, which looked elegant, unlike his colorful player, which looked rather gaudy.
Ironically, despite being smaller, Laoda’s player was more expensive than his own, costing several hundred yuan. The price difference was almost tenfold. There was no comparison between the two.
"It’s okay, it’s okay, I was just pulling your leg, look at your silly face!" The girl was afraid she had hurt his ’fragile’ little heart and promptly tried to reassure him.
Yan Fei remained silent, wearing a ’I am so hurt’ expression.
The girl contemplated for a moment, and then, seeing that there were so many people around, she whispered, "Okay, okay, when there’s no one else around, I’ll compensate you, alright?"
"That’s more like it." With this promise, Yan Fei immediately beamed. "No one has taken those pets home yet, so you can see them when you get back. I’ve trained the tiger well. When you get back, I’ll let you ride it!"
"Really?" The girl was momentarily delighted and then said worriedly, "I don’t dare, It’s a tiger! What would I do if it bites me?"
"No worries!" Yan Fei dismissed the concern with a wave of his hand. "I’ll build a cage for it and put it over its head to ensure safety. It’s been very obedient lately, and if it’s not, I’ll smack it. Don’t worry!"
"I think I’ll pass!" After contemplating for a while, the girl declined his unreliable suggestion, thus saving the king of the mountain from a tragic fate. "I would be glad to help you feed the little sable. The little one must be very adorable!"
"You’ll see when you get back, they’re all very well-behaved." Seeing that the girl was unwilling, Yan Fei didn’t try to convince her further.
Actions speak louder than words. When the girl went home, she’d see just how disciplined the tiger had become!
The girl tested the small recording device for a while but didn’t listen more. While having dinner with Yan Fei, he showed her the fresh tomatoes and cucumbers harvested from his greenhouse.
Of course, the main purpose of doing this was to subtly show off how much money he had made after selling vegetables on two occasions.
Although the greenhouse was very basic at this point, it was also low cost. Combined with the high market demand, don’t underestimate this modest little greenhouse - it was surprisingly profitable. Especially since he had used unscrupulous means of mixing in vegetables from the island and selling those as well, he must have earned even more money.
In reality, even without cheating, the venture was highly profitable. Yan Fei’s three types of vegetables, apart from the bell peppers which had a relatively low yield, the other two were high-yield crops. Even using ordinary seeds saved by ordinary farmers, the crops could easily yield several thousand catties per acre.
Moreover, the seeds Yan Fei planted were cultivated on his own island. Although the crops couldn’t grow as large in the greenhouse as they did on the island, with careful cultivation and ample fertilizers including earthworm manure, an output of at least 10,000 catties per acre was a given.
With such a high yield, coupled with the currently high prices, it was hard not to make good money!
Hence, no matter what you do, as long as you’re ahead of everyone else, the gains and risks often come as a pleasant surprise.
The girl loved hearing Yan Fei talk about his earnings. She was so pleased that she didn’t even mind munching on a tomato in the cold winter.
After dinner, Yan Fei went to buy train tickets. He took the girl’s student ID card with him as he had heard that it could help get a half-price ticket.
Yan Fei took the public bus to the train station. Upon reaching, seeing the long queue waiting to buy train tickets made his head hurt. Not having experienced the hardship of buying tickets during spring festival, he simply found himself getting increasingly impatient while standing in the queue.
It was sheer luck that right when he was growing impatient, a closed window opened. The moment the ticket-selling sign was put up, he darted out.
When it came to quick reactions, who could beat this speed demon? With a few strides, he rushed up. Others, who were originally closer, had all reached the ticket window’s guard rail. But he jumped straight in from on top of the guard rail, positioning himself in front of the others.
Seeing his swift actions, the people behind him had no heart to argue about his line-jumping.
By the time he retook the bus back to school, the timing was perfect, the girl had just finished her test.
Meal time was still a ways off, so the two of them could spend this time packing.
The girl had already packed her things; she just needed to go and collect them.
But the moment the girl left, their dormitory sprung into action. Several girls exclaimed that it wasn’t fair to just leave without a meal together after holidays had begun.
It wasn’t just unfair!
The girls jokingly threatened to lock the door to keep her from leaving. Little did they know, she had no intention of going down the stairs with her stuff. Giggling, she ran onto the balcony and shouted for Yan Fei to catch the things she threw down.
Then she clapped her hands, full of self-satisfaction.
A large bag with a quilt inside was no big deal, as was a small package, but one large suitcase scared the girls in the dorm. This girl was really bold to throw that down too?
No one was quick enough to stop her. When they saw a man with glasses effortlessly catch the suitcase down below, they remembered who he was. This guy, constantly wearing old glasses and shabby clothes, was known for his impressive strength.
But even after throwing her things down, the girl wasn’t done. She was planning to throw herself down next. The girls in the dorm panicked and quickly opened the door, letting this unconventional girl out.
This girl was really something!
It had originally been her and Yan Fei’s plan. After all, the stairs were quite a distance from their dorms, and Yan Fei couldn’t enter the girls’ dorm, so they had agreed on this energy-saving solution.
The part about throwing herself out was her being quirky. There were plenty of people downstairs! Such antics were definitely going too far.
Only at the dorm door did the girl wave her hand, saying, "We’re preparing dinner at ours tonight, consider it a gathering! We’re going to a movie after dinner, so if you want to come, sign up quickly."
Well, it seems she wasn’t that bad after all!
Usually, these girls are very reserved, but when holidays come, they go completely crazy.
By the time they arrived at Yan Fei’s rented house, they didn’t allow him to even lift a finger for cooking. A group of girls was bustling around the small kitchen, making it lively as ever.
As dishes were served one after the other, Yan Fei enjoyed being treated like a king with seven to eight girls serving him food in turns. He didn’t have to worry about his own food getting all eaten up — everything was leftovers that had to be eaten before vacation. It was perfect that there were so many people to help finish it.
They had a lively meal, then all got ready to go to the movie.
The small cinema was in a village beyond the North Ring Road. Usually, these girls didn’t dare to come here as it was crowded and disorderly. But since it was the break, they felt secure being with a strong guy who could catch a falling suitcase from the second floor. Plus, Little Dark-skinned Girl’s relatives lived in rentals here, so they felt at ease.
They arrived at the cinema after a convoluted journey, and Miss Xu Xiaoyan started her antics again.
"Why?" Yan Fei couldn’t understand.
This girl was really strange. She had him close his eyes while walking into the cinema. Weren’t they just there to watch a movie? Why was she acting all mysterious?
What movie was it anyway?
