Chapter 436: Chapter 136 Weird Therizinosaurus_1

Compared to the cinerous vulture, that bird he had just seen was not much different from modern birds in terms of flight speed, size, posture, and call. Most importantly, it was much smaller than the cinerous vulture.

That is the kind of transformation Yan Fei lacks; the ability to emulate modern birds and fly freely in the city without attracting attention.

Even though insects have evolved unnoticeably, their flight speed is incomparable to that of birds. Moreover, their peculiar appearances might bring trouble if they were ever caught by an attentive person.

Each time he went to the Provincial City during the day, he had to transform into an insect on the outskirts to fly over, creating not only inconvenience but also the risk of being discovered.

If there were a transformation into a small bird, all these difficulties could be avoided.

In the dinosaur world, small birds were at the bottom of the food chain, barely surviving by constantly dodging various dangers. However, in a modern human society, they could fly freely without constraints.

Ordinary people don’t have guns, and those who do wouldn’t dare to randomly shoot into the sky, right? As for predators threatening the birds, the largest modern birds of prey would be eagles, which humans have driven into the deep mountains to survive—being protected species, we can imagine how few of them are even in the rural areas, let alone in the cities. If you only fly around the city, you could practically ignore these threats.

While musing, Yan Fei had already arrived at Dashan, where he transformed into a cinerous vulture and flew over the forest. As soon as he left the dinosaur world, he began surveilling the mountains with a broader and more convenient perspective, trying to find that bird from before.

A true bird species! He couldn’t miss it.

He still hadn’t spotted the grey shadow, but he had found quite a few other dinosaurs. For example, another feathered dinosaur.

With a body size similar to an ostrich, a slender dinosaur tail, and two long and agile legs for running and jumping in the forest. Its forelimbs were almost completely degenerated.

However, they didn’t need these limbs as their long necks were sufficient. They fed on insects and their habits were close to those of birds. Most parts of their bodies were covered with feathers, making them incredibly agile.

This was a Therizinosaurus, named simply because the dinosaur had a single claw on each of its forelimbs.

At the moment, Yan Fei only cast a brief glance before continuing his search in the forest. He still hadn’t found any trace of the bird he was looking for, which made him suspect that the bird may have just been passing by and had flown away a long time ago.

As he explored further, he encountered a greater diversity of lifeforms, many of which had evolved in weird and wonderful ways. Enumerating them all would exhaust even his formidable memory.

However, understanding those creatures wasn’t a priority and he only took a glimpse at them without careful observation. He had no idea whether they had any special abilities and therefore wouldn’t regret missing out on them. But for this bird species, he knew how useful it could be even without considering it. If he failed to find it, he guessed he might not sleep at all that night.

He searched every possible location: forests, valleys, rivers, streams, waterfalls, cliffs...but the bird was nowhere to be found. This made Yan Fei wonder whether he had made a mistake or had a hallucination.

But making a mistake or having a hallucination was impossible. The bird definitely existed - he just hadn’t encountered it yet.

After some frustration, he consoled himself. The bird couldn’t fly out of this world, and as long as it was still alive, he would encounter it sooner or later. Moreover, it was improbable that this was the only specimen of its kind in the dinosaur world.

Thinking this way, he began to consciously divide his attention during the search, paying attention to other lifeforms as well.

He even comforted himself by saying that when you’re looking for something, the harder you try, the less likely you are to find it. Often, the thing you’re looking for will be found when you least expect it. Perhaps if he didn’t pay special attention, he might find it?

In the middle of the fallen leaves, there are always various strange little creatures hiding behind different camouflage. Some are trying to hide from predators, while others are trying to avoid being detected by their prey.

If you observe carefully, you’ll find that this is quite interesting. For example, when you see a scorpion, you’ll realize that scorpions existed in the dinosaur era. If you do more research, you’ll find that the scorpions appeared even before the dinosaurs.

When modern people started to research scorpions, these creatures had already been alive for a good four hundred million years—compared to humans, they truly are the original inhabitants of the world!

Even after all the dinosaurs became extinct and the sky was filled with birds that could eat scorpions, it still didn’t stop the relentless reproduction of the scorpion tribe.

Why is he thinking about birds again?

This damn bird, where did it go?

By a small stream, a few bizarre-looking dinosaurs were hugging the trees and gnawing at the branches and leaves.

Calling them bizarre wouldn’t be wrong. They looked like swans trying their utmost to hold their heads high. Actually, they looked more like swans... singing.

If a swan’s legs were a bit longer and it always walked with its head high and its stomach protruding, it would look very similar to these dinosaurs.

Of course, these dinosaurs were much larger than a swan. They had a body length of almost ten meters, a height of five to six meters, and a weight of six to seven tons. No swan could grow that big!

Don’t laugh, because when you see the lethal weapon they carry with them, you’ll realize that this dinosaur is not just some comic creature.

Their hind limbs resemble those of a Tyrannosaurus rex and Carcharodontosaurus, possessing sharp claws at the tips. Like the Tyrannosaurus rex, they move using only their two hind limbs. But unlike the Tyrannosaurus rex, they have forelimbs so mighty that rex’s can’t compete.

Each forelimb, a good two to three meters long, has three terrifying scythe-like claws - the largest being a staggering meter long!

The sight of such feet and forelimbs would make other creatures assume that they must be carnivorous, right?

Wrong. They are stubbornly herbivorous, with zero taste for flesh.

Meet the Therizinosaurus, the dinosaur which looks like it should be feasting on meat, but chooses to munch on tree branches and leaves instead.

Since they’ve encountered the Therizinosaurus, their natural enemy - the Special Tyrannosaurus - can’t be far away.

These two dinosaurs inhabit the same territory. The scythed-claws of the Therizinosaurus serve mostly for holding tree trunks to munch on branches, and for defending against the Special Tyrannosaurus!

Special Tyrannosaurus are slightly smaller than Tyrannosaurus and are also low-level carnivorous creatures.

Watching a few Special Tyrannosaurs lazily snoozing away, Yan Fei’s attention went back to the Therizinosaurus.

There’s a saying, ’Innocent as a man may be, he is blamed for his possession’.

For Yan Fei, the Therizinosaurus’ horrific scythes were extremely useful. It would be perfect for dissecting large dinosaurs, a handy tool to carry around.

In the midst of a Therizinosaurus hugging a small tree, blissfully munching on its leaves, a calamity none of them could anticipate occurred.

A Sarcosuchus, bigger than the Therizinosaurus, suddenly appeared behind it, and with a single bite, snatched the dinosaur’s long neck.

With a loud crash that seemed to shake the earth, the dinosaur couldn’t even let out a groan before it was dragged to the ground by the Sarcosuchus.

Its neck, twisted at an angle it could never have achieved while alive, was caught in the crocodile’s jaws.

After a few unconscious spasms on the ground, the Therizinosaurus had become a motionless corpse.

Before the other Therizinosaurus could react, the Sarcosuchus had disappeared with the body of their companion. Only a pool of fresh blood remained, a stark reminder of the companion they had just lost.

The reaction of the other Therizinosaurus didn’t concern Yan Fei anymore.

For other kinds of dinosaurs, Yan Fei had the patience to wait to ’pick up the leftovers’, since he felt strong and agile enough now. But he couldn’t wait to seize the scythe-clawed Therizinosaurus.

Who knows how many of his super-sized kitchen knives he would wear out by the time the opportunity to ’pick up leftovers’ came around!

Being a blacksmith’s child doesn’t necessarily mean he must rely on the large blades he made himself, does it?

Looking at those six large scythes, Yan Fei felt it was a good deal. Even a small scythe would be big enough to use as a large knife. The poor Therizinosaurus could never have imagined that the scythes that usually protected it were the very reason it lost its life.

And after its death, the scythes became tools for dismembering its body.

While being busy, Yan Fei continued to comfort himself: though he hadn’t found the bird he was looking for, it was only a matter of time.

Looking at the time, he stewed the meat of the Therizinosaurus and cleaned the six scythes before rushing back to Sancha River.

After saying goodbye to Old Cheng who had been looking after the greenhouse, he glanced at the grey sky and retreated into the warmth of the greenhouse.

Continuing to survey the forest, until the sunset dyed the sky red, Yan Fei slapped himself in the head, realizing he had been narrow-minded.

Before, he never encountered this kind of bird. It must reside in an area he’d never been to before. As long as he continued to explore new territories, he might find flocks of these birds together somewhere!

How stupid had he been! Why did he keep fixating on this one area!
