Because according to her, she was way too tall and if she were to wear leggings, she’d look like Aunt Yang Er from Mr. Lu Xun’s stories - resembling a wobbly compass with thin legs.

Yan Fei had frequently seen people who looked like compasses, especially in rural areas where overweight people were rare. Such sights were awkward, so he agreed with her point of view.

But in another clothing store, a shop assistant was enthusiastically trying to sell leggings to Xu Xiaoyan. She sincerely exclaimed, "Sister, give it a try! I think you’re different from other people. You’re the type of vibrant sister who would look great in fitness pants!"

Yan Fei found himself swaying towards the salesgirl’s opinion, coaxing her to try them on. The young lady gave in, blushing as she entered the changing room. When she emerged, Yan Fei couldn’t take his eyes off her.

Body-hugging clothes reveal everything about a person’s figure. If you’re even slightly overweight or underweight, your flaws will be glaringly prominent. On the other hand, if your body is perfect, such pants will add a halo to your perfection.

Yan Fei, entranced by the sight, went ahead and paid for the pants.

Feeling a little embarrassed, the young lady told Yan Fei after they left the store, "Wearing these pants feels like wearing nothing at all, it’s really uncomfortable... I don’t want to wear them!"

Yan Fei advised her not to wear them. "You can wear them under your clothes, or put on a long shirt to cover them."

So, he bought two more pairs of regular pants for the young lady.

When it came time to purchase autumn underwear and long johns, Yan Fei didn’t mind. If you consider embarrassment to be nonexistent, then it won’t exist.

But the young woman wasn’t pleased. She pushed him out of the store, hiding herself in the farthest corner of each store. It took her ages to get ready.

After finally buying shoes and yarn, it was inconvenient to deliver seeds with all the shopping bags. So, they decided to head back, drop the clothes off at their rented apartment, and then go out again.

Once inside, Yan Fei didn’t want to leave, shamelessly insisting that the young lady should change into her new clothes.

After buying so many clothes, the young lady was quite happy. Unable to resist his cajoling, she went to change into her new outfit, even agreeing to wear the leggings for him to see.

Once she emerged with her new clothes on, Yan Fei found her irresistibly stunning. After a while, he curiously remarked, "Why do I feel like you’re noticeably bigger here than before?"

"Oh, so that’s it!" Yan Fei nodded, "Larger is better!"

"Damn you! If you say that one more time, I’m going to ignore you!" The young lady was on the verge of getting angry. "I really won’t talk to you!"

"I won’t say it again!" Yan Fei immediately promised. Then as soon as he finished speaking, an idea popped into his mind. "How about trying a dance in your new clothes? These pants have good elasticity, so dancing won’t be a problem. I can check out your dancing skills!"

The young lady had no idea that he had secretly watched her dancing before. She agreed, oblivious to his motives.

Yan Fei immediately ran into the house to get his bedding to lay on the ground, "Dance on this, it will keep your feet warm."

The young lady took off her shoes and got ready to dance. Suddenly, she looked puzzled, "How do you know I take off my shoes when I dance?"

"I figured you’d just put on new shoes and was afraid they might hurt your feet," Yan Fei explained. There was no way he was going to admit that he had been sneaking peeks at her dancing!

"Relax! I’m sure these expensive new shoes won’t hurt my feet. Here I go!" As she started to dance, she even provided some commentary. "This dance is depicting a seed, which is now in the soil. Now it’s starting to sprout, now it’s exposed to the sunlight...."

The seed the girl was displaying had just sprouted, but weeds had already started growing in Yan Fei’s heart!

When he stepped forward and made advances, the girl stopped dancing, and before she even had time to deal with him, he was nuzzling her face like a pig, causing her to act coyly embarrassed.

After some commotion, the two finally tidied themselves up and prepared to leave - the girl even changed her legging pants for a new pair.

When they arrived at the experimental field, they could see Professor Qi squatting alone in the wheat field from afar.

They were lucky not to have seen Old He.

When Yan Fei handed the seeds to Professor Qi, the professor was surprised that he had brought a few other types of seeds.

Yan Fei explained, "These are other seeds people in our village grow, and they produce big, high-quality vegetables. At least in our area, they’re the best. During a past greenhouse project, I had extra seeds, so I brought some here."

Professor Qi nodded without saying anything.

Yan Fei didn’t mind, and was ready to leave with Xu Xiaoyan.

"Are you planning to buy land around here to build a house?" They had already walked a few steps away when they heard Professor Qi asking from behind.

Yan Fei turned back and after a pause said, "That was the initial plan, but now we’ve rented a decent house, so there’s no urgency to buy one."

"Hmm!" Professor Qi nodded and stopped speaking.

The two slowly rode their bikes for a while, when Xu Xiaoyan suddenly said from behind, "I reckon Professor Qi must be a highly respected scholar!"

"How did you figure that out?" As Yan Fei spoke, he instinctively looked back, just in time to catch another glimpse of the scene before his view was blocked.

In the warming winter sun, Professor Qi’s slightly thin figure stood in the wheat field. His usually stern face was not visible at the moment, and there was nothing to suggest that he was a university professor. He seemed much like the ordinary elderly farmers working in the fields.

"Just a feeling!" The girl’s answer was inexplicably cryptic.

"Oh!" Yan Fei nonchalantly responded. "Where shall we go now? We still have some time, do we want to go somewhere else?"

"Go wherever you want, as long as it doesn’t hold up my performance..."

"I just thought of a question, do you also not wear shoes when performing?"

"There are special shoes for dancing, don’t worry!"

"Not confident at all, what if your feet get frostbitten? Are the shoes thick?"

"Dance shoes certainly wouldn’t be thick, but you don’t need to worry. I feel like I’m not so sensitive to the cold anymore. It appears the healthier the body, the less one fears the cold! No wonder I feel you don’t dress thickly and always feel warm..."

"How is it unreliable? This is an ingenious idea, and I think it’s quite feasible! Should we go home and try it out first?"

"Do you seriously think it’s feasible? If you want to try it, go ahead. I just find your idea a bit far-fetched. Besides, we’ve already prepared our performances, how can we change them!"

"We’ll know once we try it!" Yan Fei was brimming with confidence.
