Chapter 390: Chapter 101 Tonight The Stars Shine Brightly_1

Right next to the exit of the Provincial City central bus station was a Dahong Grocery, run by a man surnamed Hong and named Yu.

Those who were able to do business in high-traffic places like train stations and bus stations, especially prime spots with spacious storefronts, were clearly not ordinary folk - there must be some connections or backgrounds behind them. His wife happened to have a distant cousin who held a minor leadership position in some municipal office.

With this connection, he acted high and mighty. A few days ago, a country woman was selling peanuts in front of his shop, annoying his wife. She had her husband and son chase the woman away.

Due to a short verbal dispute, his wife ordered her brother, the woman’s uncle, to hit the country woman on the head.

Who would have thought that such a trivial matter could lead to a group of students from the Provincial University Law School sending a letter to the newspaper denouncing them? Only then they realized that these peanut sellers, who they had looked down upon as rustic peasants, were organized. This incident landed the uncle in jail, where he still remained.

Those accustomed to bossing people around do not take kindly to losing face. So when they did, they found it hard to swallow.

The couple were still aggrieved by the incident when they sat down for dinner that night. Given that shops near the station had to stay open late and business was not particularly thriving at night, they had a lot of idle time. They began to plan a retaliation against those peasants selling peanuts as soon as the uncle would get out of jail. Ideally, they wanted to make sure that these peasants could no longer do their business.

As for what would happen to these peasants once they lost their business, it was not something they cared about.

When they were ready to go to sleep late at night, the wife was grumbling about their son who had gone out drinking again and hadn’t come back yet. She was abruptly interrupted by her husband, who urgently dragged her upstairs, and then they had a round of raucous fun on the bed before falling into a deep sleep.

In the middle of the night, they felt cold and woke up after fiddling with the duvet for a while.

Still half-asleep, Hong Yu opened his eyes to the starry night and said to his wife, "Look at the stars tonight, aren’t they splendid!"

"Yeah, yeah, go to sleep! Who cares about stars in the middle of the night? Give me the duvet, I’m freezing to death." The wife impatiently muttered some words, adjusted the duvet, then suddenly shivered. "Aren’t we sleeping inside our room? How come we can see the stars?"

Her husband came to his senses, "Exactly, aren’t we sleeping inside our room?"

The couple looked around, and caught their breaths!

They were originally sleeping in their room on the second floor, but miraculously, they woke up on the pedestrian sidewalk outside, still in their bed!

Luckily, it was late at night when there were fewer pedestrians at the station entrance. Otherwise, it would have drawn a huge crowd!

Filled with fear and surprise, the couple bundled up in their duvet, puzzled and freaked out about what just happened, feeling like they had been hit by a curse. All they wanted to do now was to get back into their room. But the door to the store was locked. Although it could be opened from the outside, who would sleep with a key in the duvet?

The couple racked their brains on the bed for a long time but couldn’t figure out a way to get in. They tried calling their son but received no response, which was clear that he hadn’t come back to sleep either.

At this moment, the wife recalled something and urged Hong Yu, "Go to the police booth over there and report this! We’ve been cursed. Police officers have power to suppress evil spirits. Ask those young officers to come over to ward off the curse for us, and also help us open the door."

There was still a hint of hesitation in Hong Yu, "Those two young officers on duty tonight don’t get along well with us, do they?"

The wife scolded him, "What are you afraid of? We are in trouble now and are seeking help from the police. If they refuse to come, we can go to their superior."

With her encouragement, Hong Yu finally agreed, but then he halted again. "I’m not wearing any clothes, how can I go out?"

Quickly, his wife wrapped herself in the duvet again, "It’s all your fault! I’m also naked. You should pull off the bedsheet and wrap yourself in it."

So Hong Yu, with a bedsheet around him, walked to the police booth and reported, "Officers, my house is cursed! Last night, we were sleeping soundly upstairs, but when we woke up, we strangely found ourselves on the sidewalk!"

The two young officers had long seen him walking toward them wrapped in a bedsheet, and had a good laugh over it. Hearing his report, one of the officers said sarcastically, "Your house is cursed? You need to look for a Taoist priest then! We’re cops, not ghostbusters."

Hong Yu tried to explain a few times but couldn’t make himself understood clearly. So, he first entreated the two officers to help open the door.

The two officers were reluctant, "Isn’t this street virtually owned by you? We just need to guard the street corner. Surely we shouldn’t barge into your place?"

You have to bow your head down when you are under somebody else’s roof! Are these two little brats belittling me because they know I’m in trouble?

A small gust of wind blew, and Hong Yu shivered while clutching the bedsheet tightly around him. He managed a smile on his gritted face and said, "What are you talking about, guys? How is it possible that this street belongs to me?"

"That’s funny. If it isn’t yours, how did that peanut seller get a bleeding head for selling things on the street?" one officer said resentfully.

The other officer nudged him, "Stop, stop. Isn’t there no evidence that they ordered it? Calm down, calm down! If we don’t do our job properly in guarding this place, they may take over the duty of the train station next!"

"I’m not afraid at all! I have strong backing too! His cousin works at a city, my cousin is from the city! Let’s see him file a complaint against me! I just can’t stand him!"

The ’peacemaking’ officer kept trying to calm his partner down but with no success. The two chattered and bickered, leaving Boss Hong out as if he didn’t exist.

Boss Hong had run out of choices at that point. It was freezing, and what good would a bedsheet wrapped around him do? And at this hour, even if he wanted to get someone else’s help, he was unlikely to find anyone.

He usually used his connections to bully others, but these two officers who dared to cross him had much more backbone than he did. So, what could he do?

After many desperate entreaties, one officer responded with sarcastic remarks, and the other incited more disputes, which frustrated Boss Hong. The biting wind was not a joke. It was freezing!

Thankfully, in the end, the two young officers finally agreed to come and help, albeit reluctantly as it was part of their duty.

When they arrived at the door, the normally arrogant woman knew very well that her husband had been to them for quite a long time and had been humiliated by the officers. She dared not to say more now, feared that the two young officers would get annoyed and leave.

There were no clothes to wear! She did not dare to move on the bed and only stuck her head out of the duvet, watching the two officers discussing how to open the door.

When the two officers were already considering contacting the lock manufacturer, her husband was freezing outside. She could no longer bear it and shouted, "You could just break the door open!"
