Chapter 380: Chapter 91: Initial Exploration of the Sea Floor_1

Under the setting sun, the sea surface was blanketed in a layer of crimson afterglow, which was dazzlingly gorgeous as it rippled with the waves.

From time to time, small fishes would leap out of the water, and strange heads with mouths gasping for air would pop out of the surface; in the sky, pterosaurs were elegantly fluttering their wings, sweeping swiftly across the sea and grabbing their satisfied catch from the water. They would gulp down their food mid-flight, then emit triumphant roars to show off.

The sounds of the sea waves, pterosaurs’ calls, the shouts from the strange heads popping out of the water, and the splashing water, all contributed to a vibrant and lively scene at sunset.

However, beneath the water, the tranquil world at the bottom of the ocean would not necessarily signify peace.

Innumerable small fish, gathered into a shoal, appearing like a giant monster, were frantically swimming in the sea.

Circling around the shoal of fish were two little ichthyosaurs, who would occasionally dart into the shoal and indulge in a feast, causing the school to disperse and regroup.

Ichthyosaurs used to be the rulers of the sea. Similar in shape to dolphins, smaller ichthyosaurs were only one to two meters in size while the larger ones could grow over twenty meters long and weigh dozens of tons. Regardless of their size, all were unarguably excellent swimmers conquering the sea with their exceptional swimming speed.

Yet, nature’s evolution often takes unforeseen paths. These creatures which seemed to have reached the pinnacle of evolution are now forced to coexist with the slower Kronosaurus and compete for the position of top marine predator. Unfortunately, they eventually lost to the Kronosaurus.

The two ichthyosaurs, about three to four meters long, swam a few rounds around the school, seized the chance to have a quick meal, and then hurriedly slipped away. Because they were so engrossed in their meal and carelessly alerted a shark.

The shark’s target was these two small ichthyosaurs, and it showed no interest in the small fish forming the school.

Seeing the ichthyosaurs flee, it immediately gave chase without hesitation. It’s a pity that the two creatures spotted it early and utilizing their pre-emptive move and swift speed, they darted into a coral crevice at the bottom of the sea, to be seen no more.

This shark was clearly a seasoned hunter. Although it was only midway up the food chain in this sea, with its six to seven meters long body, it was not yet intimidating enough to rule indiscriminately. However, bullying these two small ichthyosaurs should be no problem. It quietly hid outside the crevice, waiting for the air in the ichthyosaurs’ lungs to run out.

Ichthyosaurs breathed through their lungs and could not remain submerged indefinitely; eventually, they would have to return to the surface to breathe. The shark patiently waited, confident that they would have to come out eventually.

The shark, quietly waiting for its prey to show up, failed to notice that behind its tail was a strangely shaped ’rock’. It seemed like the two pieces that made up this ’rock’ were connected, revealing rows of white teeth.

And worse, there were two eyes on top of it, staring at its tail, considering whether to bite down.

Yan Fei felt that today he was having a clash with sharks.

After entering the sea, he had been trying his best to keep a low profile.

The giant skulls and terrifyingly large mouths he had seen on the surface of the sea when he was young had left a deep impression on him. Even though he himself had now become an intimidating nearly twenty-meter-long Sarcosuchus, he still felt somewhat unsure.

So he decided to stick to the ocean floor, crawling and swimming slowly towards the center of the sea.

Because he was observing his surroundings, his pace was somewhat slow, making him look like a moving black rock. Despite this, the gigantic Sarcosuchus still caused various strange marine creatures to flee in all directions wherever he went.

When a small shark suddenly sprang out from the sand beneath him and fled, it had given him quite a scare.

When he arrived at a small mountainous coral reef, he simply stopped moving. The seawater here was deep enough for him anyway, so he decided to observe the surroundings for a while.

The world beneath the sea was too foreign to him; the vibrant multicolored coral reefs, the weird shapes of undersea creatures, he could only just guess the identity of a limited few based on their shape. Most of them, he had no clue what they were.

Since he was in shallow waters, he didn’t see many large carnivorous creatures. But to him, this was already an eye-opener. He had seen several horseshoe crabs the size of a bathtub, came across an ammonite with a conical shell about a meter long, and occasionally saw snail-like mollusks floating in the water.

These creatures, which just didn’t look like living beings at all, were indeed living organisms.

There were also quite a few that looked like crabs, scorpions, or shrimps, and even ones that appeared to be hybrids of these creatures. The coral reefs were home to a variety of bizarre creatures and equally colorful. Yan Fei could not figure out which of them might be tastier.

At this moment, Yan Fei fervently wished someone could give him a comprehensive cookbook of marine creatures from the dinosaur era - if such a book existed, he would even trade ten cows for it.

The spot where he was hiding also grew a seaweed-like organism, only it was much larger. Some of them were hundreds of meters long, spreading out in the sea water.

This was also the reason why the unfortunate shark hadn’t detected Yan Fei.

Now Yan Fei was rather torn; should he take a bite out of this shark?

It took him a lot of effort to finally decide to enter the ocean, and it would not be a good omen to return empty-handed on his first trip in.

Just as he was in his dilemma, the two small ichthyosaurs suddenly bolted out from another crevice in the rocks and quickly swam towards the surface of the sea.

The shark next to Yan Fei’s mouth sprung out and foolishly gave chase. Seeing that the two small ichthyosaurs had merely paused briefly on the water’s surface before quickly fleeing again at such a speed that it left the poor shark trailing far behind, Yan Fei no longer had to worry.

His worry was about the wastefulness of killing such a big shark just for its fins!

Just as he was preparing to find some other potential "ingredients," something happened that left him between laughter and tears.

After doing a circuit, the two small ichthyosaurs came back.

And the tenacious shark resumed its position in front of him. What’s more frustrating was that the shark was now blocking his sight.

It was practically begging to be eaten!

No longer hesitating, he opened his mouth and gave the shark a gentle bite.

Then instantaneously disappearing and reappearing, the shark had vanished without a trace, leaving behind a faint smell of blood in the water.

He tore away another gigantic piece of seaweed, and as usual, delivered it to Vegetable Garden Island.

Then, he started stirring up the bottom of the sea. A large amount of sand was thrown up, and the creatures hiding in the sand were left nowhere to hide.

He selected a few creatures that looked like shrimps and crabs, and carried them to Vegetable Garden Island, planning to ’test taste’ them
