Chapter 378: Chapter 89 Trading One Life for Another_1

Yan Fei had only taken a few steps before he doubled back, calling out to Heizi, "You head over to the greenhouse after supper tonight! I’m planning to go out later this afternoon and will probably get back in a day or two."

Heizi nodded in agreement, knowing without needing to ask that Boss Yan was going to visit his wife again.

Just as Yan Fei was about to leave after giving his instructions, Gao Rui brushed past, carefully asking Yan Fei, "Boss Yan, can I take a leave for some personal matters? Don’t worry, I’m not planning to run away, I have nowhere else to go for meals. I’ll only be gone overnight, leaving tonight and returning tomorrow morning."

Before Yan Fei had decided on his response, Heizi’s sarcastic comment gave Gao Rui away, "Going out to run an errand at night? That can’t be good. What if you end up in jail? Where would Brother Fei go to find you?"

Gao Rui awkwardly reassured, "Not at all, it’s just a fight. They crossed me first, so they won’t call the police, it’ll be fine."

Yan Fei understood, this fellow was planning to take revenge on the people who tricked him into coming to the cattle ranch. He shot him a stern look and said, "You’re not allowed to go. We’ll talk about this later. For now, work hard and behave yourself here."

Having said that, he wasn’t worried about Gao Rui sneaking off and casually left.

Yan Fei had no interest in knowing who had instigated Gao Rui, he had offended too many to care about such trivial matters. Besides, that person was probably keeping tabs and would be wary of Yan Fei or Gao Rui seeking revenge, wouldn’t he?

How satisfying must it be to leave someone in constant fear of revenge, unsure when and how it will come, than to simply beat them up? The anticipation of retaliation from Yan Fei and Gao Rui at any moment must be costing the culprit sleep. Belting him up is a bonus, let him continue to lose sleep!

And when it feels like the person is finally able to catch some sleep, then, he’ll send Gao Rui to rough him up!

On second thought, why does he feel like he’s acting like a rogue who sets a dog on his enemies?

While Yan Fei left nonchalantly, Gao Rui struggled, watching Yan Fei’s retreating figure and biting his tongue. He ultimately didn’t have the courage to plead again.

Heizi was puzzled by Gao Rui’s hesitant behavior in front of Yan Fei, "Say Gao Dasha, why are you so afraid of Brother Fei? I agree that Brother Fei has been increasingly formidable, but he’s quite gentle when he’s not angry. Why do you get so timid in front of him?"

Gao Rui was more defiant with him than with Yan Fei, and it wasn’t until Yan Fei was out of sight that he snubbed him, "If you call me Gao Dasha again, do you believe I’ll belt you up? You people who have barely seen a dog bite wouldn’t know how fierce a tiger in the mountains can be!"

Heizi challenged, "And you’ve seen a mountain tiger?"

Gao Rui casually retorted, "Although I haven’t seen a tiger, I can imagine. Haven’t you noticed how all the cattle on the farm behave well in front of Brother Fei?"

Heizi contemptuously responded, "You act like you’re so profound, bragging about a tiger you’ve never seen! I might not be very worldly but I’ve seen a tiger a few times!"

"If he weren’t formidable, would you dare to show off in front of me like this?" Gao Rui ignored Heizi’s scornful tone and quipped. Then, curiously he asked, "You’re still alive after seeing a tiger?"

Heizi scoffed, thinking: I won’t tell you how formidable Brother Fei is!

Looking up at Gao Rui, he continued to scorn him, "He’s been in jail too long! Don’t you know there are tigers in the zoo? They’re confined in iron cages, they can’t get out to bite me, can they?"

I really want to beat you to death!

Looking at his infuriating expression, Gao Rui’s eyes flashed with a fierce light, he was suppressing the urge to beat him up.

Heizi was unbothered by Gao Rui’s glare, "What’s up? Want to beat me up? There’re plenty of people who wish to do that, you think you’re any different? I wouldn’t dare to get a bruise or a sprain, in case I’d have to lie in bed and could not be there when Brother Fei needed me. Could you bear the consequences?"

Gao Rui rolled his eyes and decided not to look at him anymore.

Another look and he couldn’t help but want to lash out!

He had already visualized thrashing Heizi, a despicable fellow, to death hundreds or thousands of times.

Heizi continued to irk him unaware of his fate, "What are you rolling your eyes at? Shouldn’t you be getting to work? Even Da Fu knows to help with the work and you’re just standing around, really lacking tact! What if Brother Fei comes back and finds you loafing around, blames me for not teaching you to work?"

Gao Rui clenched his teeth and walked past Heizi back to the inner yard, where he picked up a shovel to dig up cow dung, murmuring under his breath, "Believe me or not, killing you would be as easy as crushing an ant."

Heizi sneered, "Unluckily for you, this little ant has a big tiger behind it. It’d be easy for you to crush me, but just as easy for that tiger to squish you."

After saying that, he paused, chuckled and said, "Did you feel that my statement has ’depth’?"

Gao Rui was rendered speechless by the shameless man, so frustrated he couldn’t even blow up at him, and retorted with resentment, "Right now, I just want to find a really ’deep’ well to bury you in!"

He accidentally raised his voice with that comment, and Heizi immediately took the opportunity to declare, "Did everyone hear that? He just threatened me! If anything were to happen to me, you all have to remember to tell Brother Fei, so he can avenge me!"

Gao Rui instantly fell silent and went back to work.

Ever since he arrived at the cattle ranch, aside from appearing a bit fierce at the beginning, he worked diligently. In contrast, Heizi constantly barraged him with sarcasm, earning him the sympathy of others.

Lin Yumei even reprimanded Heizi, "He’s just joking with you, must you always bully him?"

Heizi argued, "Whether he was joking or not, probably only he knows, right? You’re the only one who thinks he’s joking. I’m doing this for his own good, trying to get him to work more. What if one day Brother Fei finds fault with him, wouldn’t he be doomed? He’d probably be skinned and used for firewood!"

Not everyone liked what Heizi had said. Half-blind Old Gong disagreed, "Little Gao, don’t be afraid. Our little boss is such a good person, is he as fierce as he said? He’s just badmouthing behind people’s backs!"

Heizi was even more annoyed, "What? Now you’re siding with this Gao Dasha? We’re supposed to be on the same side. You think I didn’t see, right? When he first came here and tried to show off in front of the boss, you were sneaking around with an iron spike up your sleeve, moving about behind him. If Old Cheng hadn’t held you back, were you planning to sneak attack him?"

Old Gong’s eyes were blurry, and he wasn’t sure what he was looking at, but he leisurely replied, "If it weren’t for our boss, my grandson wouldn’t be going to school now! As long as my grandson can go to school, I wouldn’t hesitate to lay down my life to keep this cattle ranch running! I’ve experienced death once, there’s nothing I couldn’t let go."
