Chapter 329: Chapter 49: A Butterfly Wakes You Up, a Guilty Road is Long_1
Early morning, in the Provincial University Law School girls’ dormitory.
In her half-asleep state, Xu Xiaoyan felt as if a feather-like object was brushing gently against her face.
At first, she thought someone was playing a prank on her, but when she suddenly remembered the plans she made with Yan Fei last night and his boastful words, she instantly opened her eyes.
The dormitory was still dimly lit, only the outside light, whether from the moon or a lamp, shone through the window adding a faint brightness to the darkness.
In that thin, faint light, a butterfly, which should not have been there, appeared. It was fluttering its wings in front of the girl.
As enchantingly blue as ever, as heart-stoppingly beautiful as ever, under the pink mosquito net, it was particularly mesmerizing.
The girl barely managed to stifle a gasp, covering her mouth in time. She carefully looked around through the mosquito net; the other girls in the dormitory were all sound asleep, and no one noticed her sudden movement.
She reached out tentatively to close the hole in the mosquito net that she had intentionally left open the previous night, even though she was well aware that no one would try to peek inside her net.
As she extended her hand, the butterfly fluttered around her fair, lotus-like arm, appearing to want to escape into the air.
The girl chuckled softly, seeming to understand its intent, and whispered in a soft voice, "Don’t be impatient. As soon as I’m dressed, I’ll take you to find your boasting master."
And so, she gropingly picked up her clothes one by one and started dressing herself under the pink mosquito net.
The butterfly kept avoiding her movements inside the net, flying around. Sometimes it flew into a corner of the net, sometimes it flew back. Turning here and there, not knowing where to land.
Fortunately, with the current weather, she didn’t have many clothes to put on, and the girl quickly finished dressing. The butterfly gently landed on her shoulder, waiting for her to tidy up her bed.
As soon as she lifted the mosquito net, before she could put on her shoes, the butterfly darted out, flying directly towards the window. The girl instinctively exclaimed as she watched it fly away.
Her exclamation woke another girl in the dormitory, who sleepily asked, "Who is it? Why are you getting up so early during the holidays?"
Xu Xiaoyan watched the butterfly fly out of the window, a little dazed, she said, "I’ve got something to do today, I’m leaving soon!"
She quickly freshened up and was putting her washbasin and toothbrush under the bed when she heard the clear sound of a bicycle bell from downstairs. The girl immediately rushed to the balcony, overjoyed, and saw the goofy figure holding the bicycle.
She waved to him from above, mouthed "wait for me," and then raced out of the dormitory and down the stairs.
Rushing downstairs cheerfully, she hadn’t reached Yan Fei yet when she noticed a bag on the back of his bike. She chided him, "You really went back to get the stuff, huh? How did you manage to get there and back in one night? Come here, let me see if you’re tired?"
The girl ran over and examined him from head to toe. When she noticed a part of his shirt was still folded, she extended her hand to help him straighten it out and said, "I told you not to go, you could bring it next time if you had to, but you still didn’t listen. Let me feel your forehead to see if you’re sweaty, did you really cycle back home?"
"No!" As the girl extended her hand, Yan Fei instinctively took a step back, seemingly hesitant to meet her gaze. "I was hitchhiking; bicycling wouldn’t have gotten me here this quick."
"What’s wrong with you? Won’t let me touch your head anymore, what happened?" Noticing his odd behavior, the girl immediately asked in concern. "Are you sick or something? Too tired?"
"No, not tired at all, seriously!" Yan Fei looked up at the girl’s concerned eyes and seemed even more guilty. "Let’s go. I’ll hang the stuff on the handlebars of the bike, and let’s get going!"
"Alright then!" Seeing that he wouldn’t say more, the girl stopped pressing him. When he got on his bicycle and started to ride away, she extended a hand around his waist and noticed him flinch. This unusual behavior was odd enough to make her touch his forehead.
"You don’t have a fever, so what’s happened to you? You’re acting so strange today." The girl retrieved her hand, still looking puzzled, and asked him again.
"Really, nothing’s wrong!" Yan Fei responded without turning his head.
"Really nothing?" The girl asked doubtfully and then something else came to her mind. "Oh yeah, you didn’t lie about it! Quickly, how on earth did you find that blue butterfly? How could you make it wake me up? Honesty will be lenient, resistance will be stern! Confess quickly, how many more secrets are you keeping from me?"
Hearing the girl mention the butterfly, Yan Fei’s pedaling rhythm became a bit messy: "Anyway, I’m just that magical. I told it to wake you up, and it did. I don’t even know how it understood me!"
"Hmm! So, you still won’t tell me?" The girl smirked mischievously and placed her hand on his waist again. "Speak up or endure the pain. Your choice."
Yan Fei awkwardly tried to dodge, but the bike seat was only so big and he couldn’t escape: "I really don’t know! I was joking when I asked the butterfly to wake you up. I just spoke to it when I was taking you back, and it happened to be there. I said to it, ’Butterfly, butterfly, could you help wake up my wife for me? I’ll plant a lot of roses for your nectar.’ Honestly, once I said it, the butterfly flew away. I had no idea it actually went and woke you up."
"You’re still lying. You just said you knew it went, now you’re saying you didn’t, you’re fooling me! Stop telling such childish tales to deceive me! Are you telling me a fairy tale?"The girl felt aggrieved to hear his nonsense. "Are you forcing me to use my ’Nine Yin Skeleton Claw’?"
Having said that, she was already acting, tickling him with her hands...
She stopped after a while, and asked with a hint of aggrievement: "Yan Xiaofei, what’s the matter with you? Do you not like me anymore? Do you not want me to touch you anymore?"
"No..." Upon hearing what the girl said, Yan Fei almost drove the bike onto the pedestrian sidewalk. "That’s not it! I just... I just didn’t sleep well last night and I’m just a bit tired."
"Alright, alright, I’m just teasing you! Look how scared you are!" The girl began laughing gleefully from the back seat. "But you really seem out of sorts today, why do I feel like you’re hiding something from me? Did you do something you shouldn’t have?"
"Absolutely not!" Yan Fei adamantly denied, thinking to himself: ’They often say on TV that women have a sixth sense. Could it actually be true?’
"Such a quick reply, there must be something. You’re definitely hiding something. Hmm! Let me guess, is it related to you having the butterfly wake me up? Speak!" The girl idly speculated from the back seat while occasionally pinching or tickling him. "There’s definitely something odd about this butterfly! Otherwise, why would it understand human language and even wake me up?"
Yan Fei felt that the provincial city was much larger than he had previously thought. He had been riding from the Law School to the antique city for what felt like twenty years. How was he still not there yet!
Finally, after teasing him for a while, the girl turned her attention to the task at hand: "Hey, Yan Xiaofei, how much money do you think we can get for this stuff? Are we really going to strike it rich?"
